Buying Diamond Wedding Rings

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Traditionally most people opt for a plain gold wedding ring when getting married. However there are many beautiful diamond wedding rings available both in stores and online. Shopping wisely could also result in finding a bargain.

Diamond wedding rings are not only beautiful but are a rare natural resource that comes in different levels of quality.

If you have decided to buy a diamond wedding ring rather than a plain band there are a few things that need to be considered.

The most important and often forgotten is that the wedding ring will be worn on the same finger as the engagement ring, although this is not essential traditionally they are worn side by side. With this in mind it is important that they compliment each other.

If your engagement ring is large and contains either one big diamond or a large cluster of diamonds it would be a good idea to go for a more simple diamond wedding ring. A solid gold band with one or a few small diamonds would be perfect.

A diamond wedding ring could be costly so it is always wise to set yourself a budget before looking to avoid disappointment.

If you go to a jeweller be sure to tell them your maximum price that you are willing to spend and advise them you are not interested in seeing anything above your maximum price.

If you already have an engagement ring it would be a good idea to take it with you to show the jeweller so they can advise you which diamond wedding ring would look the best along side it.

Always ask if they have any sort of payment plan and make sure you work out any interest that will be added on to see if the plan suits you and your budget.

Purchasing matching diamond wedding rings for both yourself and your partner may seem easy as you are only looking for one style of ring however two people’s opinions need to be taken into account, discuss with your partner the styles of diamond wedding rings you both like to avoid any arguments in a store.

Another important thing to remember when looking for diamond wedding rings is to make sure that the price shown on the ring is the price for the whole ring and not per diamond, some jewellers will price the stones separately.

You can always cut costs by looking at imitation diamond wedding rings, especially if you have over spent on the wedding its self, there is no reason why you can not later replace the ring with a real diamond wedding ring when you are in a better position.

Some stores sell imitation diamond wedding rings and you really wouldn’t be able to tell if they were fake or not and you could save yourself a lot of money.

MSG in Your Personal Care Products

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Important! Read this before you buy any cosmetics or personal care products that contain protein or amino acids!

MSG may be hidden in your cosmetics and personal care products. If you know you’re sensitive to MSG, you may be avoiding it in your food but still noticing MSG-type reactions and not know where they’re coming from.

Do you ever get a headache or notice other unpleasant symptoms when you put on your makeup, shampoo your hair or wash your face? Have you ever wondered why? Or do you just shrug it off and pop a pill to mask the symptoms? Maybe you just grin and bear it and don’t give any thought to the fact that there might be a relationship between the product you’re using and the symptoms you’re feeling.

If you try to avoid MSG in your food, just because you believe it’s harmful, you may be surprised to know that MSG is found in more than food. It can be found in your cosmetics and personal care products, like makeup, soap, shampoo and conditioner. You may also be getting a dose of MSG in your daily vitamin supplements. Over-the-counter and prescription medications may also contain it, as well as vaccines that are given to your children.

MSG sensitivity is commonly referred to as Chinese Restaurant Syndrome because it’s frequently used in Chinese foods and many people experience symptoms like headaches, dizziness and sweating after eating Chinese food.

MSG is short for monosodium glutamate. It also applies to processed free glutamic acid, which is glutamic acid that has been freed from protein through a manufacturing process or fermentation. MSG is a neurotoxin. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and the placental barrier and excites nerve cells to death. If you’re pregnant, it may even affect your unborn baby.

Even if you’re not sensitive to MSG, these are good reasons to avoid it.

How do you know if MSG is in the products you use?

First of all, you have to read the label. Not just the front of the label that tells you what the manufacturer wants you to believe about the product, but the ingredients list on the back of the label. You know, that tiny print that’s often so small and in a color that blends in with the label that it’s almost impossible to read. The more difficult it is to read, the more important it is for you to read it. Carry a magnifying glass with you and make sure you read every label of every product … BEFORE you buy. Dying To Look Good is a book that will help you read labels and choose healthy products.

Look out for these ingredients that are hidden sources of MSG:

-hydrolyzed proteins

-amino acids

-yeast extract

-nayad (potent yeast extract)

-glutamic acid

-glutamates

MSG may also be in or be the result of:

-processed proteins

-enzymes

-carrageenan

There are many more ingredients that are hidden sources or potential hidden sources of MSG, but these are the ones that are most likely to be found in cosmetics and personal care products.

MSG is not the only ingredient that you need to watch out for in your skin care products. There are many harmful ingredients in the cosmetics and personal care products on the market today. Some are even known to cause cancer. Make sure that the products you use on your skin contain safe and healthy ingredients because what you put on your skin can be absorbed directly into your bloodstream and affect your health.

Chef Uniforms Style Made to Order

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Isn’t it funny how many chef uniforms in high-class restaurants are white? Even a regular person who wears white shirts or pants has a hard time keeping them spot and stain-free on a normal day. Think about how difficult is it for cooks and bakers, who are constantly leaning over soup bowls and sauteing vegetables, to keep their chef uniforms clean and tidy.

Whatever the reason for the color choice, the crisp white chef uniform sets apart the food preparers from other restaurant employees and represents a well-respected staff member who has earned a reputable position as a chef.

While the makeup of a chef uniform may project an image of a simple white smock or coat, there are many more color and fabric choices and accessories that could make up their business uniform.

Chef frocks and jackets come in a variety of shades and styles. While most are the traditional white tops with minimal to no color design, others available include red, green and even denim chef uniform shirts. Most are secured by buttons either on one side of the front of the attire or contain two sets, usually sporting black or white colored buttons.

A more relaxed, less high-scale establishment could also possibly distribute collared, polyester or cotton shirts to their employees for chef uniforms. To add spiffiness to a chef uniform, accessorize the garments with neckerchiefs. They are an inexpensive item that spruces up the look of a basic chef uniform, adding color and a bit of flash to otherwise basic gear.

Some kitchens require their cooks to wear simple black or white pants; others opt for a more unique and colorful chef uniform pant, purchasing cotton speckled or graphic-designed comfortable baggy or straight-legged bottoms. Allowing chefs to sport these comfy pants may give a more creative feel among kitchen staff and are certainly more flexible when sprinting from the salad station to the dessert tray. Spills may also be less noticeable in case a chef is asked to make an appearance in the dining area. Adding a full-length or wrap-around waste apron could also act as a guard for unwanted splatter disasters.

Big billowy hats are perhaps the most noticeable and captivating article of a chef uniform. Not only are they fun to look at by restaurant patrons, they serve the purpose of keeping loose hairs secure so that strands don’t accidentally fall into the food. Caps are sometimes used as an alternative to chef hats and basically serve the same purpose.

Northing is worse than a scalded hand when a chef is cooking up a masterpiece. For that reason, oven mitts should be a chef uniform requirement for those handling metal pans or reaching into baking ovens.

There is one more item that should be kept on hand to keep those chef uniforms looking spectacular. Management should keep a bottle of stain remover accessible to remove surface spatters from chef uniforms as to lighten the washing machine’s burden. Suggesting employees purchase a bottle for use at home wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Impression Well Maid The Importance of Maid and Housekeeping Uniforms

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

If you’ve ever wandered the halls of a hotel searching for an ice dispenser or snack machine, the most convenient employee to track down is a maid or housekeeper. They swarm the halls with carts of bedding and cleaning supplies, and can usually be spotted in professional-looking maid or housekeeping uniforms, complete with skirts and white tennis shoes.

However, on occasion, a hotel or motel’s employee policy doesn’t require their cleaning staff to dress in a uniform. Instead, they show up to work in street clothes, or whatever they happen to roll out of bed wearing that morning. This lack of business-like apparel not only sends an arbitrary message to the guests, but it also makes it difficult for them to track down an employee when information or accommodations are needed.

Doesn’t sound too professional, does it?

While a hotel decor may be fancy and well put together, if the employees appear unkempt or sloppy, the reputation of the establishment can easily go out the window. But an establishment that requires their staff to wear maid and housekeeping uniforms will project a clean and professional environment.

This is easiest accomplished if the management has pre-selected set of uniforms in tact for housekeeping employees, making sure that they are all identical, so that they can easily be distinguished by guests. It should also be mandatory that uniforms are laundered every night and kept ironed and wrinkle-free. Providing a few maid and housekeeping uniforms employees could lighten their load of constant upkeep.

Any accessories for the uniforms, such as aprons, belts, pins or scarves should be mandatory and worn in a systematic way. Although these extra items may be uncomfortable and cause complaints, if one employee is given leeway, others could follow with petty objections and disharmony.

Along with fixed accessories, socks and shoes should also be unitary. Whether the standards are white socks with white tennis shoes, or black, rubber-soled, non-slick shoes worn with panty hose or knee-highs, all of the employees should be in unison for that crisp team look.

Although some hotels provide career apparel for their housekeeping employees, others who require more basic clothing (like black pants or white shirts) summon prospective workers to purchase their own gear. This may be easier on the budget of the employer, but may create hardship for the low-income person attempting to make a living by starting a new job. In cases like these, perhaps inexpensive clothing articles could be purchased by the employer, deducting small amounts from the employee’s paychecks to reimburse for the uniform.

It is important to keep in mind that although the employee may wish to make a good impression and look professional, he or she may not have the financial means to go out and purchase necessary items.

Hotel and motel employees have a tough job. Sporting professional maid and housekeeping uniforms could not only benefit the demeanor of the hotel or motel, but also provide the employee with a lift of self-esteem or sense of belonging by looking fresh and orderly during their shifts.

Dickies School Uniforms Spice Up Your Academic Look

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Students have it rough nowadays. Not only do they have to keep up with note taking, tests and essays, but they also have to deal with the pressure to sport the latest fashions at school just to fit it. A solution for some school administrators is to choose Dickies school uniforms. By instituting required attire, it will lessen the burden of less fortunate families who don’t have the extra money to dish out for expensive and superfluous brand-name clothes.

Eliminating the tension of being made fun of for wearing second-hand or inexpensive clothing may not only send out a message of unification to the student body, but also allow for more concentration on the importance of education.

Dickies offers a variety of basic colors and styles of shirts and pants to choose from.

For boys, tops can be as simple as short or long-sleeved twill or oxford shirts. Dickies also offer a crewneck pullover sweater or turtleneck for the cold winter months or chilly classrooms. For girls, shirts can be as modest as a polo shirt or as flourished as a tie back top or gathered blouse. Dickies school uniforms also stock pants for a unified look. A few choices include pleated and cargo looks. Flare-bottom trousers are also an option for a more hip “now” style.

An optional rule to allow students who are forced to wear school uniforms is to allow creative accessories such as tasteful pendants, buttons necklaces, iron-on patches, belts, and ribbons. Most school administrators reiterate that the Dickies school uniforms are not to be altered in any way and that all accessories must be removable.

Providing students with a means to lug those thick, heavy books around can also be a big help to the overloaded pupil. Dickies school uniforms also include book bag accessories that are available in both low-key plain styles and colors and unique designs amplified by bright hues.

If establishing a population-wide set school uniform is not possible, consider approaching extra curricular activity groups such as special interest clubs and music bands, and suggest that they use Dickies school uniforms. When a school organization shows up to a competition in matching uniforms, it sends an intimidating and well-put together message to the opposing team.

Having matching gear also provides the student member with a sense of belonging and importance. To look extra snazzy, purchase team jackets from Dickies school uniform selections, which are offered in solid color or two tones designs.

Sometimes, school budgets simply do not have enough funds to cover such luxuries as Dickies school uniforms. Many school sports, art and music classes are being cut from school curriculums because of financial reasons. If this is the case in your school, don’t give up hope. Make collecting money for Dickies school uniforms for your team or social club a group effort by allowing after-school time for fundraising projects, such as bake sales, car washes, auctions or, a house cleaning service or donation jars. Raising money for your own Dickies school uniforms will not only impress school administrators, but also provide you with a sense of accomplishment and accentuate your team spirit.

How Important is It to Avoid Silicones When You Have Long Hair?

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Many people who read about caring for long hair are warned not to use conditioners with silicone products in them. These are products such as Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone, which are found in many conditioners.

On the other hand, many people with long hair have used such products for years with few problems. So who’s right?

These silicone based products can be harder to rinse out for many people which is why some do not trust them. Long hair can be quite sensitive to product buildup, which can result in damage and unmanageable hair.

With these problems you may be wondering why silicone products are used in conditioners anyhow. The reasons are pretty simple, actually. Depending on which one you’re talking about, they can smooth hair and keep it from absorbing too much humidity while keeping the hair’s own moisture in it. That’s pretty useful for most people, but can be a problem for those with long hair as the product builds up.

The tendency to keep humidity out of the hair may actually be a part of the problem. Over time, the hair does lose it’s natural moisture, and if that happens faster than the hair absorbs humidity, you get dry, difficult hair. It won’t look good, it will break more easily and it will require extra care and perhaps some extra split ends cut off.

That said, whether or not you have a problem with a particular variety of silicone depends on your hair. Some people say they have problems anytime they use a conditioner with it. Others can go months without trouble, then clear it up with a clarifying shampoo and be ready to go back to that conditioner.

If you want to avoid silicones, try an oil conditioner instead. Some love coconut oil. I like jojoba oil. Some people even just use olive or vegetable oils from their kitchen, although these can be very heavy in the hair.

If you aren’t noticing a problem with what you’re currently using in your hair, you may not have to worry overmuch. However, it may also not hurt to give something new a try. You may be surprised by the changes in your hair when you decide to use a more hair friendly product.

Long hair can be challenging to grow. The longer it gets, the pickier it becomes about the care you give to it. Experiment to figure out what is right for you and enjoy the results you get.

Basic Care for a Juniper Bonsai

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Growing bonsai trees is an ancient art that is becoming increasingly more popular. Research shows that plants benefit our mood and attitude. Introducing bonsai plants into your life will bring these benefits along with reduced stress levels and enhanced the aescetics of your home environment. Because juniper bonsai trees are easy to grow, they make great plants for beginners. Anyone can grow a bonsai tree if they properly care for it. The following information will help make your bonsai experience a positive one.

There are over 50 species of evergreen juniper trees. The needles range in color from dark green to blue. The juniper increases in beauty as it grows and is a great addition to any landscape. The juniper is an outdoor plant. Fresh air and sunlight are essential to its growth and health. Although it should not be exposed to extreme freezing temperatures, it is a hardy plant, withstanding the coldness of winter and thriving in most climates. Still, it should not be exposed to extreme freezing temperatures and should be brought inside during sub-zero temperatures. Indoors, it should not be placed near heating vents or left without sun exposure. In winter, an unheated, sunny, enclosed porch is an appropriate place for a juniper. If left inside indefinitely, a juniper will lose its healthy appearance and eventually die.

Plenty of fresh air and sun are the first elements to caring for your bonsai. Soil and fertilizer are other important components. Buy soil specifically formulated for bonsai trees. These mixtures contain less fertilizer than the average potting soil, which is designed to encourage maximum growth. The fertilizer should have a high nitrogen content. Fertilize your bonsai every other week during the growing season, spring until autumn. If your bonsai looks unhealthy do not add more fertilizer, which is a common mistake with beginners. Rather, an unhealthy bonsai is usually due to over-watering. Re-pot your bonsai every two years until the plant is 10 years old. After it is re-potted do not expose it to wind or direct sun for 1-2 months.

The next important element for a healthy tree is water. The saying, “if some is good, more is better” cannot be applied in reference to watering your bonsai. Beginners have the tendency to over-water their bonsai plants. Over-watering causes Bonsai roots to rot. You should water your bonsai when the soil is nearly dry–but not completely dried out. The soil should be dry about a half inch to an inch deep. It should appear dry on top, but when you check the soil underneath with a toothpick or your finger, you can still feel moisture. In most conditions you will water every two to three days, but could be as little as once a week or as often as every day, depending on your climate. When it needs watering place it in a container of water or your sink for about 5-10 minutes to saturate the roots. Then let it drain. You can also top water. If top watering your bonsai, water, and then wait a few minutes, and water again. You will repeat this until your bonsai has received enough water. The juniper can also be misted every couple of days to keep dust off the needles and help in keeping humidity.

Plenty of fresh air, rich soil, and the right amount water are the first items to consider when growing a juniper bonsai tree. The basics are usually the most important in any skill or trade. If you can control and regulate the basics, you will be well on your way to growing a healthy bonsai plant. Those elements combined with your care and attention will produce a beautiful plant that will help your mood, attitude and stress levels for many years to come.

The Natural Way to Cure Acne

Last Updated: 2011/10/06

Many people will try an array of products to try and get rid of acne. But you do not need to use expensive toiletries or cosmetics to help acne. There are a few basic things that you can do to help clear up acne and calm the skin down. Firstly start with a cleaning regime that you do everyday. By strictly keeping the skin clean, by cleansing toning and moisturizing you will help your acne. You don’t need to use very expensive products for this; just by cleaning and toning your skin everyday should help with your acne.

Just about everyone has acne at one time or another. This common skin problem has left many individuals looking for an effective acne treatment that can be used by a wide variety of people. Pimples are not selective; they tend to appear on anyone and everywhere. This prompts many researchers to work towards finding the ideal acne treatment.

While acne is largely caused by excessive skin oils and the bacteria that eat that oil, a degree of control can be obtained simply by keeping your face and hair clean, in milder cases. This is important, as well as the right diet. Some foods are thought to aggravate acne, so it is a good idea to watch your diet and find out if there is a pattern between what you eat and breakouts of acne.

There seems to be a growing number of different treatments but usually over the counter products come in the form of topical cleansers, soaps, washes, lotions, creams, gels or even pads and patches that are applied onto the skin. When using these kinds of preparations it is important, that you cover all of the area where you have acne because then you will also be treating the hidden blemishes that you can’t yet see as well as the acne breakouts that you can. Expect some trials and errors as you experiment with the different treatments available, it may take you a while before you find the right type or combination of products that work for you. Whatever you do, don’t use more than one treatment at a time, particularly with medicated products, discontinue one before you try out another.

Lifestyle and environmental factors contribute significantly to the emergence of adult acne. A diet that is poor in the necessary vitamins and minerals can wreak havoc on how the body’s organs function. The skin, being the largest organ in the body, needs nutrients in order to work effectively. If the skin is unable to metabolize or secrete the waste products that it needs to because of poor nutrition, acne can result. Habits such as smoking and drinking can also affect the skin’s condition and its resistance to diseases like adult acne.

Hormones are an option available to treat teenage girls and women with acne. They are usually taken in the form of a birth control pill. They work by increasing the level of female hormones in the bloodstream. This helps reduce the production of androgen, which will then reduce the production of sebum.

Most Body Care Products NOT Tested For Safety – Are Yours Safe?

Last Updated: 2011/10/06

The majority of shampoos and other body care products do not have their ingredients tested for safety before being used. According to the FDA Office of Cosmetics and Colors, 1995, the “FDA cannot require companies to do safety testing of their cosmetic products before marketing.” It is unlikely that individual applications of one product are causing immediate harm, however, most of us use many products per day, such as shampoo, conditioner, make-up, skin care like facial cleanser, moisturizers, etc., and all these exposures may add up.

Did you know that pharmaceutical companies have investigated putting drugs into shampoos because the scalp is so thin that it readily absorbs substances that are put on it? Many other personal care products are put on our skin and stay there and are absorbed all day long. Do you ever wonder about their safety?

According to the Environmental Working Group, in the United States, the FDA has banned or restricted nine (9) ingredients out of 1,175 that are used in personal care products. The European Union, in contrast, has banned 450 ingredients for use in cosmetics. Hmm!

Some further food for thought: Cancer rates are now approaching 1 in 2 American men and 1 in 3 American women. This is up from 1 in 4 Americans in the 1950s despite huge expenditures on the “War on Cancer.” Dr. Samuel Epstein from the University of Illinois says that cancer rates have gone up about 60% from 1950 to 1998. A lot of us think that these rising cancer rates are at least in part due to our increasing exposure to carcinogenic chemicals, often in small amounts that accumulate in our bodies over time. These come from our food, our air and water, household furnishings and building materials, cleaning products and personal care products.

Commonly Used Chemicals in Personal Care Products That May Be Toxic:

Artificial fragrances are derived in large part from petrochemicals, not flower essences or other herbal products as many imagine. These petrochemicals release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that often cause headaches, skin irritation, nausea and allergies. Some are carcinogenic, contain or release formaldehyde or are toxic to the nervous system. Many artificial fragrances contain phthalates, which are linked to birth defects in the male reproductive system. Phthalates were found in a 2002 study by a coalition of environmental and public health organizations in deodorants, fragrances, body lotions, hair gels, mousses and sprays. Artificial fragrances in general are found in many cosmetic and personal care products.

The family of preservatives known as parabens, which includes methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, and butylparaben, has recently been identified as xenoestrogens which mimic the sex hormone estrogen. They are widely used in shampoos and cosmetics for adults as well as children, even in many so-called “natural” products. However, Dr. S. Oishi of the Department of Toxicology, Tokyo metropolitan Research laboratory of Public Health, Japan, reported that the daily sperm production in lab tests of animals was significantly lower in those receiving a dose of parabens that is “similar to the lower level of acceptable daily intake for parabens in the European Community and in Japan.”

Diethanolamine (DEA) is often used as a foaming agent and emulsifier in shampoos. However, a federal National Toxicology Program completed a study in 1998 that found an association between cancer in lab animals and the topical application of DEA and other DEA-related ingredients. DEA can also lead to the formation of nitrosamines, which are known carcinogens. In response, many manufacturers switched to cocamide MEA. However, the FDA says that cocomide MEA is one “of the most commonly used ingredients that may contain DEA.” Other ingredients that include other types of MEA or TEA may also contain DEA.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG), including PEG-6, PEG-150 and other similar ingredients can be found in shampoos, lotions and other personal care products. However, a report in the International Journal of Toxicology routinely found many impurities in PEG, including ethylene oxide and 1,4-Dioxane. Ethylene oxide increases the risk of uterine, breast and other cancers. 1,4-Dioxane is a suspected human carcinogen. Testing commissioned by the Doctors’ Prescription for Health Living showed that around 50 percent of personal care products with PEG contain significant amounts of 1.4-dioxane. PEG is also found in some “natural” body care products.

High Quality Natural Body Care Products

If you are serious about reducing the amount of chemicals you are exposed to on a day to day basis, you need to search out truly natural body care products that are free of the above mentioned chemicals, as well as other toxins and carcinogens. A good place to start is to go to a health food store either online or a physical store, and make sure and read all the ingredients on the labels. Many products that call themselves “natural” contain questionable ingredients that you will be absorbing on a daily basis.

Depilatory Hair Removal: Key Facts You Should Know

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

A depilatory is a liquid or cream that is used to remove unwanted hair from the body by applying strong chemicals to the hair follicle which dissolve the hair.

As the search for an ideal unwanted body hair removal method involves both men and women, a depilatory offers an economical, easy method which can be performed at home. There are certain drawbacks however, and depilatory hair removal products may not suit everyone, especially those with sensitive skin or anyone prone to allergic reactions.

The following information will help an individual first of all decide whether they want to try a depilatory, and secondly, if they do decide, what guidelines need to be followed for best results.

Section One: Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

How does a depilatory work?

A depilatory contains chemicals with a high degree of acidity (low pH) such as sodium thioglycolate, or calcium thioglycolate. They react with the protein structure of the hair and break it down. Depending on how coarse the hair is, the process takes from 5 to 15 minutes during which time the hair is dissolved into a glop which can then be washed away.

What is the difference between a depilatory and an epilatory?

A depilatory removes hair on the skin’s surface. An epilatory such as waxing or tweezing removes the hair from below the skin’s surface taking out the hair follicle.

Why does skin feel so smooth after using a depilatory?

A depilatory acts as an exfolient, removing the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface which accumulate every day and which often feel rough. After hair removal with a depilatory the skin feels softer and smoother. Additionally, many depilatories contain moisturizers such as Baby Oil, Almond Oil, Green Tea Extract and Aloe which contribute to softer smoother skin.

Which should I use – a cream or a liquid?

A depilatory lotion or liquid is designed for larger areas of the body such as the legs, underarms and bikini area. A depilatory cream has a thicker consistency so it can be applied to specific areas without the risk of it running on to skin you don’t want treated. A cream is therefore ideal for the face.

How long before hair re-grows?

This very much depends on the individual. The time can vary from many days up to two weeks. The chemicals in a depilatory reach down into the pores of the skin thus removing hair below the level of the skin. As a result, the hair takes longer to grow back so the results generally last longer than using a razor.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a depilatory?

The advantages are that depilatories are easy to apply, widely available over the counter, and quick to use. The disadvantages include possible allergic skin reactions to the strong chemicals, the messy application, an unpleasant odor, and widely variable results.

Is a depilatory safe to use during pregnancy?

In short, the safety of a depilatory during pregnancy has not been established. As depilatories contain strong chemicals which the body can absorb through the skin and which can subsequently affect the whole bodily system, some doctors advise avoiding depilatory use during pregnancy and while nursing.

Section Two: 10 Guidelines For Best Results

1. Never use a depilatory where there are cuts or abrasions on the skin or when skin is sensitive from sunburn.

2. Always test a small area of skin first such as a small patch on the inner arm below the elbow. Keep the application on the skin for the time recommended in the instructions and then wait for twenty four hours. If there is no irritation or allergic reaction such as redness or broken skin then use the product on a wider area.

3. If your hair is dark and coarse, be aware that your hair may be more resistant to chemical depilatories than a person with light, fine hair.

4. If possible, use a depilatory after a warm bath or shower as the hair is softer and the pores of the skin are open.

5. Do not rub a depilatory into the skin. Just apply a generous, smooth, thick layer onto the skin.

6. Important: Follow the timing instructions very closely. You may wish to set a timer and remove the chemical immediately the timer signal goes off. Taking this precaution will help avoid burning or damaging the skin.

7. If the skin becomes itchy or irritated stop using the depilatory and apply a soothing gel such as Aloe Vera or an anti-inflammatory skin cream.

8. To minimize irritation, try not to exfoliate before the hair removal session through scrubbing, or using a mask or cleansing agent. Be sure to follow up with a thorough rinsing and apply a moisture-rich cream.

9. After using a depilatory, apply sunscreen to areas that will be exposed to the sun.

10. Some recommend not using a depilatory more than every 28 days to avoid damaging the underlying layers of skin as a new outer layer of skin is formed every 28 days.

In Conclusion: A depilatory provides an easy, fast, convenient, economical method of hair removal. The use of skin care products afterwards can limit the potential skin damage and speed up skin recovery.

Did You Know That Your Oily Skin Prevents Wrinkles?

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

It is a hassle to deal with oily skin, there can be no doubt about that. You find yourself acne prone, shiny and generally needing to wash your face several times a day. But did you realise that your oil loving skin glands will actually help you to fight the signs of aging?

Aging is all about moisture loss. As skin cells grow older, they lose their ability to keep in moisture and this results in drier skin and the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dry skin is brittle and cannot hold its shape fully during daily movement. Hydrated skin is much more flexible and able to crease without permanently changing superficially. This is why antiaging creams are all based on the moisturising principle: the moister your skin, the more able you are to live your daily life without worrying about forming wrinkles.

Your oily skin is going to be a blessing come old age! At this very moment, your oil glands are pumping out moisture that will be soaked up by your skin and ultimately prevent wrinkles. You are fighting aging right now, without putting out any effort! People with a clear complexion and dry skin may have the upper hand in youth, but after the initial grace period, their skin has had it.

Most people need to undergo serious hydration treatments from a very young age if they want to protect their skin from aging early on. You, on the other hand, have been blessed with what will come in incredibly useful later on. Sure, oily skin seems like a mixed blessing at the moment, but if you are aware of simple ways to treat your skin to prevent acne and infection you can actually have your cake and eat it too!

Firstly, you need to be sure to treat the skin for bacteria, which grows freely in moist areas like your face. Bacteria is everywhere, on everything you touch and therefore will be present on you skin at any given moment. The only way to effectively deal with this presence of bacteria is through constant cleansing and the use of antibacterial products.

Exfoliation is a good way to open up the pores and seek out tiny hidden pockets of bacteria as well, so if you are sure to scrub, cleanse and disinfect your skin as often as you can, the likelihood of developing pimples and other small infections goes down significantly. These products will dry your skin out, essentially, so once applied add a small amount of moisturiser back onto the skin to ensure no damage is incurred.

A healthy diet is also important for the immune system of your skin. The more vitamins and grains you ingest, the better your skin becomes at fighting infection. Be sure to eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, and to base your diet on whole grains. A healthy, balanced diet is the first defence against any kind of bodily infection and even aging, so if you eat well you are sure to see a positive difference in the condition of your skin.

Oily skin can be a pain, but it is your ticket to youthful exuberance well beyond what most people manage! Take care of your skin, accept your overactive oil glands and be proud that when you turn 65, most people will not believe it. To take care of your skin just exfoliate, cleanse frequently and use antibacterial rinses.

When it comes to antiaging, just sit back and relax, and let your oil glands take care of that for you!

Types of Products for Oily Skin and What They Do

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

People with skin problems tend to realize that there are all sorts of different products on the market made for all different skin types and issues. Lotions meant to firm skin, make wrinkles disappear, help dry skin, even out skin tone, and slow down oily skin.

Even within the different categories you may find yourself faced with dozens of products that you are not sure about. What are they for? What are the supposed to do to your skin? To your pores? To your face in general?

There are several main categories you should be looking into in case you have oily skin. Each product in the category may be slightly different in its strength, physical appearance, and other properties, but as long as you have a better idea of what you want to look for, you should feel more confident in knowing what to buy.

Cleanser. This is obvious. Most people, with or without oily skin, look into finding the right cleanser. In the case of oily skin, you will want your cleanser to be oil free and strong enough to help remove oil, but not so strong as to completely erase it.

Cleansers are better than most bar soaps because they are specially formulated for facial skin and do not have some of the ingredients bar soaps have that can lead to clogged pores or worse acne due to stronger PH levels.

If you have a cleanser that can be easily washed away with just water and without the use of a washcloth, you are helping give your face an edge over acne, as washcloths can be a place for bacteria to grow.

Toner. These products are meant to be put on the face after cleansing. Toners can help remove any excess cleanser left on your face as well as dirt, makeup, and of course, oil.

Depending upon which type of toner you decide to buy, you can apply toners with damp cotton, as a spray, or by use of a tonic gauze mask. There are also different types of toners based upon their alcohol content. You can find skin bracers or fresheners which have a 0 to 10% alcohol content, skin tonics with 10 to 20% alcohol content, and astringents with 20 to 60%. As a sufferer of oily skin, you may want the latter.

Astringent. Some people skip toners or are not familiar with toners altogether and move straight to astringents, which are actually a type of toner. Astringents are the strongest form of toner, as you can see above with the 20 to 60% alcohol content, and also contain antiseptic ingredients, water, and some ingredients that are humecants.

Astringents help to dry out the skin and close pores, but if your astringent is too strong, your skin may try to make up for the oil lost and produce more. A good idea when using astringents is to use as spot treatments for specific areas of your skin that are particularly oily as opposed to wiping it all over your skin.

Mattifier. These products are becoming more widespread and have been growing in popularity. Mattifiers often come in the form of liquids, but are not moisturizers. Instead, they are meant to help control the shine oil can bring to a face.

By putting a mattifier on, you are creating a matt look to your face so you can go throughout the day without worrying about your face appearing greasy. Some mattifiers can be put on directly over makeup, and they do not contain any ingredients that will induce your skin to look or become oilier the way a moisturizer might.

Blotters. For extra oil control, you can carry around oil absorbing tissues or blotters. These are specifically made materials that are meant to soak up extra facial oil that can be used at any time.

These make for fast and easy oil removal when you are on the move and are not in a position to give your face a quick rinse.

Compiling the right products for yourself can significantly reduce your oily skin problem. Now that you know what products to look for, you have already taken the first few steps to winning the battle against oily skin.

Psychometry – My Way!

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

Have you ever touched someone or something and gotten some kind of message — such as ideas, pictures, or words? While shopping in an antique store, do you pick up impressions about certain pieces? You are experiencing psychometry.

Psychometry is the art of interpreting the psychic vibrations contained in objects. Sometimes referred to as “psychic touch,” it is the ability to read an object’s history or the history of those who may have handled it. While it deals most often with the past, it may often reflect present states as well. It is often used in cases of missing persons. The reader can touch an object the person has worn or touched, usually an article of clothing, to get intuitive impressions of the person’s whereabouts.

Some common items used in psychometry are rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and watches. Any of these items will hold information about the wearer, such as thoughts, their emotional state, and sufficient events affecting the person’s life. Through psychometry, a story unfolds that describes not only the events of a person’s life, but also how the person is feeling, thinking and reacting to these events. In order to receive clear information, the object should belong to and have been worn only by the person getting the reading.

The following exercises are very basic, but they will help you learn to develop your psychometric abilities, individually and in groups. Everyone has this ability to some degree, but most of us don’t focus on it consciously. With practice, you may become proficient in a very helpful tool. And as I always say, only use your gifts for your highest good. Any attempt to intrude on someone’s life without their permission is not only inappropriate, but clearly an invasion of privacy.

Which Hand To Use
The hand you use to get impressions from objects of very important. Your dominant hand gives or relays information, while your non-dominant or receptive hand receives information. Your receptive hand is the correct hand to use.

The following a simple test to find out which hand is most receptive. It is very important that you do this, as you will always use this hand to receive impressions, at least until you have become so accurate that you can use either hand.

For most right-handed people, the left hand is the receptive hand. For left-handed people, the right hand is likely to be the receptive hand. If you are in doubt, or were changed from a left-hander to a right-hander as a child, the following test can be used to discover which is which.

1. Hold both hands at chest level with fingertips pointing up and palms facing each other.
2. Rub hands together very lightly to stimulate the energy flow.
3. Move your hands closer together, then apart, feeling the flow of energy.
4. Whichever hand feels stronger, or that it is emitting stronger energy, that is your dominant hand. The other is your non-dominant or receptive hand. Always use your receptive hand in psychometry.

When you are beginning your work in psychometry, always pick up or touch an object with your receptive hand. If you pick up the object with your dominant hand, you may inadvertently transmit an impression as you do.

Form a habit of using your receptive hand to take things from others, and to pick up something you may intend to use. This will be a challenge, as you are probably used to picking things up and holding things with your dominant hand, but this practice will help you to remember to use your receptive hand for psychometric work.

How To Practice Psychometry
As we have already learned, all objects carry an energy frequency connected to the person they are most in contact with. You can learn to interpret these energies with the exercises that follow.

The first exercise is for the individual, but it is best performed with a friend from whom you can receive feedback.

1. Sit relaxed with your eyes closed and your hands in your lap, palms up.
2. Instruct a person to place an object that they have had in their possession for a long time in your receptive hand.
3. Relate everything that you see in your mind, think of, hear in your head and any feelings that you have while holding the object.

You may pick up some thoughts, feelings, and symbols that seem meaningless to you but keep talking as much as possible about what is in your mind and you may be amazed at how much is relevant to the owner of the object. This technique develops your gift of feeling. It gives you the experience of learning to tune into another person’s vibrations to discern what you are feeling.

Sometimes, while practicing psychometry, the feelings associated with the object are vague and don’t seem to bear much relevance to anything recognizable to the owner of the object. On other occasions, the opposite is the case and intricate details can be discerned. Some people are more relaxed and trusting and so they get many messages immediately. Some people are afraid they will say or do it incorrectly so they get nothing. Don’t worry. You can’t do it wrong!

The following exercise is for a group of people. Group practice is best because you can all put an object into a bowl without knowing which object belongs to whom. In a new group setting such as this, try not to say anything that might make someone uncomfortable. Be tactful and diplomatic, but as descriptive of your thoughts, feelings, or symbols as possible for feedback from the owner of the object.

1. As discreetly as possible, everyone puts an object of theirs in a bowl.

2. Each person then reaches in and takes out an object that it is not their own.

3. Hold the objects in your receptive hands until you receive an impression.
Sometimes I ask specific questions such as, “Will this person change their job or career?” “Will he or she find love?” “If so when?” “Who?” What lesson does this person have to face at this time? … etc.

4. Each person then takes a turn describing his or her impressions. Relate everything that you see in your mind, think of, hear in your head and any feelings that you have while holding the object.

5. Everyone should give some kind of feedback. Feedback is what helps us to develop your skills.

Dermo-Optic Perception
Another area of psychometry is dermo-optic perception, or “sight through touch.” It refers to ‘seeing’ by touching the skin’s surface. Some people have developed this sensitivity quite naturally, especially those who are sight impaired and must rely on touch.

Everyone emits electromagnetic energy. When we tap into this energy, we can see as well as if we were using our eyes. But regardless of continuing proof that such a thing as dermo-optic ability is present in many people, arguments still abound that relate dermo-optics to telepathy and clairvoyance. Therefore, it should be mentioned that in many cases where dermo-optic perception ability was found evident in a certain person, that person was separately tested for telepathic and clairvoyant abilities, and in most of the cases, no such ability was present!

Some people can distinguish colours and patterns through dermo-optic perception. Various colours have different feeling. Some have described black as “sticky” or “clinging” to the touch, while yellow was “slippery” and blue was found to be “still more slippery, but cool to the touch, like delicate ice.” Red causes great, bold radiation, and according to some, is so hot that the subject immediately draws his hand away, as though from searing heat.

It seems that small children are sensitive to colours, and can easily distinguish them merely by feel. One young mother reports the case of her six-year-old daughter’s ability to distinguish colours by touch. She shared that on day while she was wrapping Christmas presents, she asked her six-year-old daughter to give her the bolt of red ribbon. Her daughter immediately pulled the right colour ribbon out of the bag, and repeated this with green, gold, white, and blue ribbon. She never pulled the wrong colour out of the bag.

With practice, we can all master the ability to read by touch. Here is an exercise to help you develop your sense of touch.

1. Prepare a bowl of lukewarm water.

2. Close your eyes and gently dip your fingers into the water.

3. Repeat this exercise for about five minutes at a time.

At first, you may have some difficulty knowing exactly when your fingers make contact with the water, but after a short amount of practice, you will feel the tips of your fingers becoming more sensitized.

Feeling textures is also a helpful means of developing dermo-optic perception. Place various specimens such as salt, sugar, sand, or other granular substances into small separate envelopes and touch each substance through the envelopes. Don’t reach in and touch the substance directly. First, try to distinguish it through the paper of the envelope. At first, it may seem impossible to detect exactly what your fingertips are touching through the paper, since all of the substances are similar in texture. Here is the point of the test where you must not doubt! Trust your instincts. With patient practice, you will be able to detect through your fingertips the substances in the envelopes.

Various objects have different feelings, not just in texture, but because everything radiates its own specific energies, and trained fingertips can sense these differences. Awareness of this speeds the process of your own development in dermo-optical attempts.

Feel the difference between wood and paper, plastic and metal, wool and silk, china and glass, or hair and fur. This method will help to enhance your sensitivity to feel the varying objects and textures.

Such practice raises your vibration so that eventually you will be able to “read” someone just by touching him or her, as you learned psychometrically, remembering the ethical application of first obtaining one’s permission to do so.

Blackheads are not dirt. They are actually the result of oil &dead cells getting trapped in a pore, block the duct & mix with bacteria. Exposure to the air discolors them to black. Blackhead inflammation causes red pimples and it spreads when touched with dirty hands. When the pimple becomes infected, it develops a whitehead or pustule. These can break & cause scars.

ProActiv is a three step topical acne fighting system that does not require a prescription, although it does contain prescription grade Benzoyl peroxide. Accutane is an oral prescription medication. There are many side affects associated with the use of Accutane, such as chapped lips, dry skin, nosebleeds, eye irritation, joint and muscle pain, hair thinning, skin rash, intestinal problems, urinary problems, headaches, and vision problems. There are even some psychological side effects, such as depression. Accutane is not prescribed to women who are pregnant or nursing, due to serious birth defects. Retin-A has very few side effects, and is available in both prescription and over the counter forms. Retin-A is used to treat a variety of skin problems other than acne as well, including wrinkles, lines, scars, and discoloration.

When your pimple breakouts occur, if you notice you’re getting an increase in blackheads and whiteheads in combination to excess blemishes, try to think back and remember how your skin has been in the past. If your skin was clear due to good eating habits, low stress levels, and you were getting at least 8 hours or more of sleep prior to getting your adult acne, then that’s the first place you want to start.

There are quite a large variety of acne home remedy treatment techniques you can try. Some people claim to have success with orange paste applied on the irritated areas. The citric acid in the paste may work on reducing the size and irritation of the acne condition. Other things that can help with acne are cucumbers and garlic, which also have some curative properties. Acne home remedy treatments can also include a good and healthy diet. Fresh fruit and plenty of water should be consumed daily in order to get rid of pimples. Hygiene of the affected areas is also vital as a clean and healthy skin will have less irritation and, consequently, fewer pimples.

In the past, you could only have a peel in the dermatologist’s office. Now there is a home treatment alternative. Esthetician’s Choice is a medical grade peel that you can use in the comfort of your home. The main ingredient is Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) which is considered to be the most effective skin peel product on the market. TCA is a non toxic chemical that has been used by dermatologists for over 30 years to treat acne and other skin conditions.

The Au Natural Way to Oily Free Skin

Last Updated: 2011/10/04

You have heard about all the various products meant for oily skin and have searched throughout different stores for the best ones, but now you are beginning to wonder; is there no easier way? There are so many different products out there to choose from, what about natural methods for taking care of oily skin?

When you have oily skin, you have certain goals you would like to attain regarding your skin.

First, it would be great to find products that allow you to help disguise the oil on your face so it does not look greasy. Second, you would like to find ways of getting your skin to look healthier, not so dull and unpleasant as it may look now. Third and most importantly, you want to find ways of controlling the oil by slowing down its production. This final goal can help you attain your first two much easier. With controlled oil production you will be able to get your skin to look much healthier and less greasy without as much effort.

However, you do not feel you should have to buy dozens of different products just to achieve these goals. It can become costly and frustrating, especially when you buy a product and realize it does not quite work out the way you had hoped. So what about natural remedies, some of which you may find you already have around your home?

Different natural remedies can do different things to your skin. Here are a few you may consider trying, but keep in mind that every different skin type has specific needs, so what may work for one person may not necessarily be meant for you.

Witch hazel. This acts as an astringent, tightening your skin and pores and helping to dry skin. This is a fairly common astringent.

Oatmeal. Also an astringent, oatmeal can help soak up oil and firm the skin to help prevent oil in the future.

Cold Water. Water has a few benefits. Washing away cleanser with just water removes the possibility of wiping your face with a potentially bacteria filled cloth. Cold water can also act as an alcohol free astringent (and the best part is, it comes right out of your faucet!) and constrict your skin to help slow oil.

Alum. One final astringent you may want to look into.

Almond & Honey. Mixing these two ingredients can make for an effective scrub. Using ground almonds (sometimes referred to almond meal) and combining them with honey, you can gently rub the mixture on your face with a hot washcloth. Avoid scrubbing as the honey and almonds will do their job without any extra vigorous scouring. Rinse the mixture thoroughly once you have hit all areas of your face.

Aloe Vera. Aloe can give your skin a cool, refreshing feeling as well as helping to soak up extra oil. Keep your aloe in the refrigerator to keep it nice and cold and apply after you cleanse your face and allow it to dry.

Aloe and Oatmeal. This combination can be used as a scrub as well. Putting these ingredients together can provide a strong oil fighting creation; putting together an oil absorbing ingredient with an ingredient with astringent properties and making a scrub? Just be careful this does not dry your skin out too much, or the consequence can be your face making more oil. Also, do not scrub vigorously; gently rub on and then wash it off after about 15 minutes.

Papaya. Mashing papaya fruit can offer you yet another form of a scrub or cleanser. It can help in softening up skin and wiping away dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling refreshed.

These are only a few of the home remedies you can find for your oily skin. Be careful when searching for some remedies, as there are many out there and some simply do not work, leading you do waste ingredients that may have otherwise been of some use to you.

Oily Skin Management Methods

Last Updated: 2011/10/04

You are tired of your face being shiny, skin tone dull, and feeling greasy. Oily skin is the culprit behind what you are seeing and feeling and can be caused by a multitude of things. Depending upon your age and circumstances, you could have oily skin due to heredity, dietary choices, or the most likely reason of hormone changes. Shifting hormone levels tends to be the biggest reason for oily skin. These hormone shifts can be due to puberty, menstrual cycles, birth control pills, pregnancy, or menopause.

Whatever your specific reason for having oily skin is, there are ways you can tame your oily skin and turn it back to healthy looking manageable skin.

Keep it clean. Though oily skin does not necessarily mean dirty skin, the extra oil can aid in trapping extra unwanted particles close to your skin, as well as dead skin cells that normally should just fall off. These trapped components can lead to clogged pores which in turn mean acne and blackheads for you. Therefore you should keep your skin clean by washing it a certain amount every day.

Time it right. There is no definitive number of times you should wash your skin because each person has different skin types and thus have different skin needs. Washing too often will strip your skin of too many of its natural oils and it will only produce more, which does nothing for your problem. Try starting out by washing once a day and if you feel like you need to wash again, bump the number to twice a day and see how your skin reacts. Once you know the correct number, you can continue that routine in order to combat your oily skin.

Scrub it. Give your skin some exfoliation by scrubbing it with products made specifically for oily skin or other home remedies you find that work well. A good scrub can also help rid your skin of extra oil on its surface, but be warned, as just like dry skin, too much exfoliation will produce your skin into making more oil which again fails to help your problem.

Wear a mask. No, this is not to imply you should go out into the world disguised or with a bag over your head. Wearing a mask, such as clay, for a few minutes of your day can do wonders to help soothe your skin and absorb extra oil. You can either buy mask products or find proven methods of making your own.

Astringent. Wiping your face with a good astringent can also be a good tool against oily skin. The astringent will help remove the oil and also can come as individual wipes that you can carry with you in case you need a quick swipe later on in the day.

Keep it blotted. If you do not have any astringent wipes with you, you should at least carry around tissues or special oil blotters to help soak up any extra oil your face produces during the day. This way if you notice your face becoming too oily a quick dab can put you back on track.

Forget the moisturizer. In case you have not already heard; do not use a moisturizer on your face! The oil your skin produces already acts as your skins natural way of keeping your skin moisturized. Adding any type of moisturizer, even those that claim to be oil free, is adding to your problem. You have no reason to put any extra moisture on your skin.

When it comes to putting any products on your skin for long periods of time, at most you should use a sunscreen to help prevent sun damage to your skin. Nothing more.

Ease up on the makeup. If you can go makeup free, then by all means do it. Makeup may only aid in the buildup of oil on your skin and become a clogging mess by the end of the day. If you do have to wear makeup, find water based cosmetics or products made for oily skin. Start small and make sure the products you choose work well for your skin; they have to deliver and not just make promises. Use as little as possible and try using powders instead of liquids.

Following a good routine that enables you to see results should be followed for as long as you have oily skin. Take control of your oily skin and do not allow it to control you any longer!

Cambridge Dictionary defines tire as “a rubber ring, usually filled with air, that fits around the wheel of a car, bicycle, or other vehicle.”

Tires have reinforcing treads within them. Based on the direction of the treads, tires may be classified as cross-ply or radial. Radial tires are standard for modern automobiles. They have belts that run around the circumference of the tire to give stability to the tread. Underneath the belt are multiple plies of steel, Kevlar, or other textiles that run vertical to the belt. Beneath the belts is the casing, which is made of rubber, with polyester, nylon, or rayon cords within the rubber give it strength. Beneath the casing is the inner tube. There is no cord reinforcing here.

A monthly check-up of tire pressure is important. Under inflation causes reduced fuel efficiency and heat buildup in the tires. Over inflation wears tires out more in the center of the tread. Friction from moving contact with the road causes the tread on the outer perimeter of the tire to deteriorate. When the reinforcing treads inside the tire get exposed, the tire is bald and should be replaced.

Sometimes, a tire gets a hole through which the air inside leaks out, resulting in a flat tire. Nails, broken glass, or other sharp objects cause flat tires. If the hole is small, plugs from a repair kit can mend the tire. Otherwise, a plug coated with a semi-liquid form of rubber can be inserted into the hole with a special tool. The rubber covering the plug solidifies quickly, after which the protruding ends of the plug can be cut off, the tire can be refilled with air to the appropriate pressure, and the repaired wheel replaced on the vehicle. Tubeless tires that go flat can be fixed with a plug, but tube tires require the removal of the wheel and tire so the tube can be patched or replaced.
