Exercise Your Way to Healthier Skin
Sufferers of oily skin do not just suffer from excess oil production on their faces. Because societies have become so focused on exercise as the hard way to weight loss, people forget the fact that exercise is simply good for them, and in this case, for your oily skin. Not only does exercise help build collagen which reduces wrinkles and fine lines, as well as increasing healthy and helpful circulation which provides nutrients to skin cells, it can help make a big difference in your fight against oily skin.
You already know that acne outbreaks are caused by an overproduction of oil on your skin; too much sebum catches foreign particles and clogs pores. This oil production is often due to hormone variations. A myth to look out for is the myth of facial exercises. If you want to help your oily skin by exercise, this means you must do full body exercises, not facial exercises. These do nothing to help your skin, either in the next few months or the next few years. In fact, facial exercises may even increase winkles and fine lines rather than help you avoid them. They will do absolutely nothing in the ways of helping you free yourself from oily skin.
Adding exercise to your plan of attack when it comes to oily skin may be the final trick to helping you control your oily skin. Not to mention that you will feel better, have more energy, and look great overall.

Why Is Tooth Whitening So Popular?
Everywhere we look now we see people with bright, luminescent smiles and teeth. Rarely do we see anyone with yellow, discolored teeth on TV anymore. Some of the actors have smiles so white and bright that it looks fake and you know they had their teeth whitened.
The popular sitcom Friends even did a spoof on teeth whitening where one of the characters teeth were so white after treatment that they glowed in the dark like they were irradiated. So, what actually is tooth or dental whitening, how much does it cost, why is it so popular, and what kind of results can one expect?
Basically, tooth or dental whitening is a controlled oxygen bleaching of the tooth enamel. As any good dentist will tell you it works better on some than others and not everyone is a good candidate (kind of like with laser eye surgery). It will not work on any fake teeth like porcelain veneers, ceramic implants, etc. It only works on real teeth. The main ingredient is either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide which are both oxidizers and will bleach tooth enamel.
Over the counter kits and products generally have a low percentage of the main oxidizing ingredient (usually in the range of 2 to 6%). This is minimally effective at best. Dentists, plastic and oral surgeons will use a 30 to 35% solution and will add to this a high power blue or white plasma or laser light to hyper increase the oxidizing activity of the treatment.
The difference is that the over the counter kits and products may, after many treatments, whiten your teeth 1 to 2 shades whereas the in office treatments like Zoom (one of the most popular name brands for professional teeth whitening today) will in a hour or so whiten the teeth 8 to 14 shades. This is an enormous difference, but also there is a big price that comes with this in office whitening (usually $400 to $500 and most insurance companies do not cover this treatment).
Also, another thing to watch out for is many dentists are using the whitening to lure customers into unnecessary and expensive treatments above and beyond the whitening. Many people are finding that when they make the appointment for the whitening that the dentist tells them they need their remaining wisdom teeth removed, cavities treated even when there are none, and numerous other non routine requirements like deep cleaning requiring anesthesia for someone whom has no cavities or gum disease.

Does Dynamometer Testing Damage The Car?
There is no actual proof that dynamometer testing might damage the car in any certain way.
While performing tests, dynos don’t interfere with the engines performance and more importantly, don’t do any damage to it. Some of the things that may cause damage to engines are over-revving, excessive heating, shock loading or incorrect fuel or ignition settings. If however your engine malfunctions after performing a dynamometer test, it’s almost certain that the testing, if properly done, wasn’t the cause of the damage.
It is more likely to damage your engine when you drive your car on the road than when you test it by the means of a dynamometer under controlled artificial conditions. You should always make sure that the dyno operator is a trained professional and that the dynamometer has an appropriate cooling system. A 60 centimeter diameter fan is appropriate for a power run. It will prevent the vehicle from overheating.
However, you should keep in mind that dynamometer testing and setting up race cars and bikes require more controlled testing conditions. A bike or car that heats up after a few hours testing suffers from heat soak into the transmission, bodywork, engine block, oil, and so on. This interferes with the amount of power produced, and influences the accuracy and the objectivity of the performance test. To make sure everything will go smoothly while performing your tests on engines, you actually need a wind tunnel in which you should manipulate your dynamometer. When you are driving on the road at full power there is a lot of fresh air that surrounds and cools the entire vehicle, and you should do your best to recreate some of these natural conditions when you perform your tests.
If your dynamometer or the place you go to in order to get your car or bike dyno tested does not have suitable working conditions or lacks an appropriate cooling system, it is not advised to perform any tests. The problem concerning the damage done by dynamometers on the tires is more debatable. Tire manufacturers recommend dynamometer owners to replace tires after every test performed. They claim that the tires design is not intended for purposes like dynamometer testing and say that the heat or tire deformation could damage the interior structure. Due to these facts, they strongly recommend replacing the tires after testing.

Retinoid Creams for Acne Therapy

Efficacy

How To Use A Hair Dryer
Do you use a hair dryer regularly or even on a daily basis? Be sure to observe the following precautions and avoid doing damage to your hair that can take weeks to repair.
1. Don’t hold the hair dryer in one position for more than some seconds. Rotate or circulate the hair dryer over your hair. (Be sure you choose a hair dryer with a decent length cord to allow you to do this.) Alternatively, keep moving your hair instead of the hair dryer.
2. Don’t hold the nozzle too close to the scalp to avoid burning or damaging the skin. Don’t use a hair dryer that is less than 1500 watts. Hair dryers with lower wattage take too long to dry the hair thus increasing the risk of damage.
3. Don’t blow dry wet hair. Wet hair is fragile. Be sure you blot or dab your hair dry with a towel first. Alternatively, wrap your hair in the towel for at least 5 minutes. Don’t begin blow drying with a brush. Instead, use your fingers initially to get most of the moisture out of the hair before using a styling brush.
4. Don’t blow dry un-treated, un-protected hair. Use a heat-defense styling product or leave-in conditioner that gives a protective coating to the hair and avoids heat damage.
5. Don’t relegate your hair dryer attachments to a box at the bottom of the cupboard. Get to know the attachments and how to use them. E.g., use the nozzle to concentrate air to the specific areas of your hair that need extra curl or life. Use the diffuser attachment to spread the air over a large area.
6. Choosing the correct shampoo and conditioner can have a big effect on your final result. Select a shampoo and conditioner specifically for your hair type, whether it is dry or oily, thick or fine, or colored. Divide your hair into sections when applying styling aids. Use your fingers or a comb to be sure all the strands receive even distribution of the styling product.
7. Practice keeping your elbows at shoulder level and use your wrists and lower arm to move the hair dryer and hold the brush. This will alleviate aching arms once you master this technique.
Extra tip: Don’t wrap the tip of your hair round the brush. Begin from the half way mark slowly and gently turning the brush so the hair naturally wraps around. Starting at the tip will only produce fuzzy or frizzy ends.

How To Use Hair Shampoo
How often should you shampoo your hair? It all depends on the individual and the environment in which you live. The essential aim of everyone of course should be clean healthy hair.
Whether you need to shampoo daily or not will depend on whether you live in an urban environment where your hair is likely to pick up dirt and grime more quickly.
It can also depend on the season of the year. Many find they need to shampoo more many times in hotter weather than in cooler or colder seasons.
That aside, the steps outlined below will help you avoid unnecessarily subjecting your hair to harsh treatment or even damage when using shampoo and at the same time get great results.
Be sure to choose a shampoo that is suited to your hair type, whether it be oily, dry, or chemically treated.
Step 1
Either go through your hair with a wide-tooth comb to loosen dirt and dead skin or gently massage the scalp for a couple of minutes which will do the same job. Combing also has the advantage of making sure your hair is not tangled before you wash it. Wet hair is fragile and trying to de-tangle wet hair can cause damage.
Step 2
Thoroughly wet the hair with WARM water, avoid high temperatures.
Step 3
After putting a dollop of shampoo on the palm of one hand and then dividing it into the palm of the other hand (simply rub hands together), gently distribute the shampoo over your hair as evenly as possible, preferably using a stroking action. (See Appendix regarding quantity)
Step 4
Rinse the hair with generous quantities of warm water.
Step 5
Rinse your hair again with generous quantities of warm water. (Generally one time is not enough. It takes a lot of water to thoroughly rinse away the shampoo. Remember, shampoo residue left in the hair can contribute to dull looking hair.)
Step 6
Use a towel and dab your hair, (don’t rub), to remove excess water.
Step 7
Put a dollop of conditioner into the palm of your hand, divide it into the palm of the other hand and evenly distribute over the surface of the hair. Generally this light application will be enough to treat the hair. Generally it doesn’t increase the effectiveness of the conditioner to leave it on for extended periods. Conditioner generally works immediately it comes in contact with the hair and hair cuticles.
Step 8
Rinse the conditioner away thoroughly with WARM water.
Step 9
Dab or pat your hair with a towel to remove excess moisture. Don’t rub as wet hair is fragile and liable to be damaged with rough handling. Wrapping the towel around the head for a few minutes can be effective in getting rid of the moisture.
How much shampoo should you use?
If you wash your hair every day one application of shampoo, a dollop roughly 1 inch in diameter, should be enough. If you wash your hair after two or three days, you may need to repeat the application.
The pH factor
Some hair shampoos are advertised to give your hair more bounce or body. In some cases these shampoos are alkaline based which can give the impression of added bounce when in actual fact they can make the hair stiff and brittle. Good quality hair shampoos that really add volume to your hair should have an acid balance between pH 4.5 and pH 5.5.

Oral Retinoid Acne Treatment
Isotretinoin can be obtained in the topical form (i.e. in the form of creams, gels and lotions) as well as in the oral capsule form.
Oral isotretinoin, also known as Roaccutane (Roche), reduces the secretion of oil (sebum), from the sebaceous glands found in the skin. As a result of this, less oil secretion means that there is less of it for bacteria to thrive on. This therefore leads to decreased inflammatory/infection rates of the hair follicle leading to the prevention of acne formation.
It is primarily used for nodulo-cystic acne (‘hard raised pus-filled spots’), conglobate acne (this rare type of acne develops on the back, bottom and thorax. It is an accumulation of pustules and cysts, and this may be due to a strong bacterial infection) and severe acne/scarring.
It is usually given to people who have not responded to:
1.Acne creams (benzoyl peroxide, retinoids etc.)
2.Antibiotics (erythromycin, tetracyclines etc.)
Oral isotretinoin has also been shown to be quite useful in women who are in the 3dr and 4th decades of life. Studies have shown that acne developing in women (in the 3rd and 4th decades of life) is not usually responsive to antibacterial treatment; Roaccutane has shown efficacy in these cases.
Isotretinoin is quite a toxic drug and a lot of care and supervision must be undertaken when taking this medication. It should always be prescribed by a consultant dermatologist.
The course of treatment is usually 16 weeks. In many cases, repeat treatments are not required although can be undertaken with the clinical consent of your consultant dermatologist.
Main Side effects of isotretinoin include
1.Sever dryness of the skin and mucous membranes (such as the mouth, nose etc.)
2.Nose bleeds
3.Joint pains
4.There are many more side effects which have been associated with this drug; these are rare and can be obtained from any drug formulary or from the Roaccutane website.
Contraindications
1.This drug is highly teratogenic ( meaning it can be very harmful to the developing baby during the course of pregnancy) and MUST not be given to women of child bearing age unless they practise effective methods of contraception
2.People with liver disease should not take this medication as it can further impair the liver and exacerbate the disease process
3.Patients with kidney disease are advised not to take this and guidance from a consultant dermatologist should be taken
4.Patients with high cholesterol are strongly advised not take this medication and regular liver function tests should be performed in all patients before treatment with oral isotretinoin is commenced
Efficacy
Isotretionoin is very good at obliterating acne but at the cost of some side effects which may cause problems in some patients. Although these side effects are rare, they can still occur and, if experienced, you must consult your doctor for advice. Many patients have reported good results with oral isotretinoin and usually only one course of treatment is required. If you are considering this form of treatment, it would be in the your best interest to seek medical advice from a dermatologist.

Xeroderma literally means “dry skin”. Symptoms most associated with Xeroderma (dry skin) are scaling, which is the visible peeling of the outer skin layer, itching and cracks in the skin. Xeroderma (dry skin) occurs most commonly on the lower legs, arms, the sides of the abdomen and thighs.
Skin consists of loose connective tissue and elastin. Skin also receives less blood flow and lower gland activity. Skin contains the hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, apocrine glands and blood vessels.
The dermis is the layer of skin beneath the epidermis that consists of connective tissue and cushions the body from stress and strain. The outermost layer of epidermis consists of 25 to 30 layers of dead cells. The epidermis can be further subdivided into the following strata (beginning with the outermost layer): corneum, lucidum (only in feet), granulosum, spinosum, and basale.
Serious skin complications, including dry skin, can arise for people with diabetes. The oil glands do not supply enough lubrication to the skin: as a result, the skin becomes dehydrated.
Dry skin could also be a sign of an underactive thyroid. Forced-air furnaces make skin even drier.
Take baths or showers less often. For any skin condition, it’s always better to take a natural approach. Natural treatment should always be the first type of treatment to consider when you want to take the best care of your skin.
Consider taking cod liver oil or fish oil supplements every day. Eat high-fiber snacks like raw nuts, raw seeds, and dried fruit, such as dates, and figs. Good skin is often a reflection of a good digestive system. Fatty acids are particularly important to people with dry skin. Use flaxseed oil or walnut oil in your salad.
Use bath oils and moisturizers, especially coconut oil, at least daily. Use coconut oil to remove your make-up at night, like I do; it leaves a fine layer of oil to nourish your skin all night long. Also use a thin layer of coconut oil under your make-up to moisturize your skin all day. It just takes motivation, a willingness to try it, and diligent application of coconut oil several times daily and at bedtime to see its benefits.
The skin must be regularly cleaned or it’ll become cracked or inflamed. Sunlight, water and air play an important role in keeping the skin healthy. The skin is subject to constant attack from without, so can be affected by numerous conditions, diseases and ailments.
If you’re still worried, or the problems persist, go and see your doctor. Call your doctor or naturopath when you feel itchy all over without a visible rash. Usually, these days, we can take care of dry skin without seeing our doctor, but sometimes we can’t avoid it.
