Ways to Maintain Your Bones and Joint Health
Your skeleton is the frame upon which your body depends for support. It is more than a simple structure. Its bones conceal and protect vital organs. Without the bones to provide shape and support, you are as formless as the Blob. A joint is the place where two or more bones meet. Joints provide flexibility to the skeletal structure. They allow smooth movement, bending and elasticity. Without joints, you would be like the Tin Man.
Keeping healthy bones and joints is essential. If you do not take care of their health, you may feel the effects grow worse over the years. What, then, is the answer to keeping your bones and joints healthy? There are a number of ways of maintaining a healthy skeletal and joint system. Doctors stress various factors in your day-to-day life. They analyze your individual problems, genetic background and current life choices. They then focus on two distinct fields: diet and lifestyle. Within these two areas are five specific ways to maintain healthy bones and joints.
Diet
You are, so the saying goes, what you eat. There are certain foods connected with healthy bones and joints. Milk, milk alternatives, milk products and green vegetables are among the list of “musts.” The reason is simple. They all contain high levels of calcium. Calcium is necessary for providing and maintaining healthy bones and joints.
Calcium is one of the essential ingredients behind the growth of healthy bones. It is aptly called the backbone of your skeleton. About 99 per cent of your calcium resides in your bones. It is stored there. When your body requires more calcium and you are absorbing insufficient amounts, your body withdraws it from your bones.
Other substances you need to consider are Magnesium (About 70 percent of it is in your bones.), Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin C. These are also essential to ensuring healthy bones. Vitamin C helps nourish healthy joints and bones. Calcium, magnesium, and other mineral and vitamin deficiencies can be corrected by diet and/or the addition of various supplements. Keep in mind, however, that the specific requirements change with age.
Rule number one, therefore, is to ensure your body obtains and maintains the correct amount of calcium and other bone-friendly vitamins and minerals. The best way to accomplish this is to follow the government food guides. These handbooks list the correct amount of the various food groups required to remain healthy. Be sure to include lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, milk and their alternatives e.g. tofu, cheese, yogurt.
Realize, however, many minerals, vitamins and other necessary bone and joint strengtheners and builders cannot work on their own. They require something to increase their absorption into the body. Vitamin D is one of the better known. It helps the gut absorb calcium. It is available naturally but you can also take it in supplement form.
Rule number two, therefore, is to include Vitamin D and other enablers as part of your diet. Vitamin D is less common naturally than vitamin C. Foods rich in vitamin D include salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna, eel, shiitake mushrooms and eggs. Other foods such as cereal and milk are fortified with vitamin D. It, too, is available in supplement form.
Don’t Forget to Take Care of Your Money When Attending a Tax Auction
Summary:
Investors can easily overlook the problem of transporting money when attending a tax auction out of state or even the country. Here are a few quick reminders.
Article:
In the business of tax liens, tax certificates you’ll find that you end up handling large amounts of money. You’ll need the cash to pay for properties picked up at auction, daily expenses and other business related expenses. Sometimes you’ll even end up carrying large amounts of cash with you as you travel to new areas to participate in a tax auction. This can be a hassle and would cause anyone to worry.
One of the easiest ways to save yourself this hassle is to make sure you have a bank account with a bank that exists in the area you are heading to. You can easily research online to find out which banks exist in the area you are heading to. However it’s not always possible to set up a new account for each place.
Having your home bank issue you one or more Cashiers’ Checks can be an easy way to transport money. Usually these are secured checks that can be cashed by you at any bank or business, anywhere, that will accept them. It’s good to know that typically Cashier’s Checks under $5000 won’t have a hold placed on them when you cash them. There have been scams with fake Cashier’s Checks so you may find that you have a little trouble cashing them when you need them. In the business of money there are a lot of variables.
Some investors may even cross the border between Canada and America in their search for tax auctions to attend. Bringing money across the border can be a tricky process. You’ll want to declare any large amounts that you have with you, whether in cash or check or even in the form of gold bars.
Under our new legislation you’ll be glad to know that there is no limit on the amount of money you can bring into and out of Canada, but you must absolutely report it to the Border Services Office when the amount is greater than $10,000. Reporting the amount is done in person at the Canada Border Services Agency Office and you will need to fill out Form E677, Cross-Border Currency or Monetary Instruments Report-Individual. You can print out this form from the Canada Border Services Agency website. Fill out this form, sign it and hand it to the border services agent at the nearest border office where you are crossing. If you don’t declare they could legally seize the money and give you a fine.
This can be equally important whether you are coming or going. Have a bank account set up, so you can put in and take out any money you make or need. Always treat your border crossings with care. As long as you declare the amount you bring with you and cooperate with procedures the border crossings should go smoothly.
Attending a Tax Auction and Winning that Property
Summary:
Don’t get caught up in a bidding frenzy at tax auction. The smart way to pick up property is to stay calm and have a good knowledge of the rules of auctioning.
Article:
When attending a tax auction, you have to have a system, you have to be organized. Once the auction starts they don’t wait for you to get ready. The property is sold to the highest bidder and whoever has their paddle up when bidding. Be prepared. Before the auction research properties on the property list, make notes and take photos. Also it’s a good idea to decide before hand your maximum bid on each property.
Investors should be aware of other people at a tax auction. As soon as they get a hint that you know what you are doing they will try to ask a lot of questions and can distract you at the auction. So it’s possible to miss out on a lot of good bidding. Some people get really confused. They will end up bidding on everything that comes up. Some will even end up bidding against themselves. It really pays to be calm at the auction and not get caught up in the frenzy. You’ll easily be able to see who did their research on a property and who didn’t. Don’t be afraid to give yourself a pat on the back when you see someone in a bidding frenzy over property you researched and realized just wasn’t worth the money.
Many people attending auctions don’t know the rules of auctioning. It is often a requirement that you have the money on hand to pay for the property within an hour of the auctions end. Lots of winning bidders can’t fulfill that requirement and so the property goes back up for auction. Don’t just leave at the end of the auction. Hang around for an hour for the chance to bid on properties that come back up again at the after auction sale.
Once you have your property what do you do with it? Some investors feel like they need to flip their property almost as soon as they buy it. This is great. If you can find a buyer or a realtor that will pick up the property from you for a few thousand more in a couple days then go for it. However there is nothing wrong with holding on to a property for a little while. In a good market will just keep accruing value and you can take your time in putting it up for sale with a good realtor.
The thing to remember with picking up property at tax auction is to get it for less than it’s assessed worth. The assessed worth and minimum bid on each property will be easy to find on the property list. Pick up a property below it’s assessed worth and sell it at its assessed worth or a little bit higher than you won it for and you’ve made a profit. As long as you follow this rule when purchasing a property at auction you have a good chance of selling the property in the long run with a high percentage of profit.

Back to School – Is It For You?
A number of years ago I took the plunge and went back to college to complete a night-time degree. While it is good to have the qualification and it was certainly beneficial to me in my career, that road is fraught with difficulties and it is not one that any potential student should take lightly.
Study of any kind, done properly, is time-consuming. Much of the first and second years of my own course involved organising my life around my studies. With many lives taken up with families and careers, managing the study becomes yet another task in your life.
Before signing up for a course there are some important issues to consider.
Take your time deciding what you want or need to do.
Signing up to a flower-arranging or a woodworking class for 10 weeks is an easy decision but a 3 or 4 year course needs careful thought. Make sure it’s something you are really interested in. Why do you want to do it? Is it for work, pleasure or some other reason?
Be Realistic
Look closely at the course you want to do. There is really no point in taking on an engineering degree if you have always hated maths.
Do you think you will be up to the challenge?
Do you have the basic abilities to do this course?
What other course might better match your abilities and interests?
Look at the limitations of your time
For those with families and other outside commitments this is essential. Consider how often you need to go, the outside work – the homework and any other projects. How much time will they take up? Will you actually have the time to do it?
Think of the possible effect on family and those closest to you
The family and those we spend our lives with, need reminders that we haven’t forgotten them. The study is about them as well, as they are affected. They will need attention, maybe a bit more than usual as you focus on your studies.
Look after your health
For many people stress can be a big problem particularly as they have probably been out of education for a very long time. They worry about assignments and other projects. They fret about their ability. They also have much longer days due to the classes. Consequently there is a need to look after your health a little more, with exercise, good food and enough sleep and all those other recommendations health professionals give us.
Is it worth it? Yes I think so. There is a great sense of achievement and it clearly shows that we can take on study at any time in our lives, once we have the will and the time.
Cat litterbox training – How to encourage faithful litterbox use
Cats don’t necessarily need to be trained to use the litter box the same way a dog needs to be housetrained or a child potty trained. It’s actually a natural born instinct for them to want to bury their waste in a soft, diggable material such as litter.
So most of the litter training is already done for you! However, the litterbox should always be the best bathroom option available – otherwise you can run into problems.
But let’s start at the beginning.
Just because a cat naturally is driven to use the litterbox, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t litterbox train a stubborn cat or encourage appropriate elimination behavior. Whether dealing with a young kitten who hasn’t learned any bathroom habits, or an older cat who’s decided to stop using the litterbox – there are certainly things you can do to encourage faithful litterbox use.
The first thing I would do, especially when dealing with a kitten, is to have scheduled feeding times throughout the day. (this way, you will know when your kitten/cat is going to need to go to potty)
It’s much easier to predict when a kitten is going to start looking for a place to go potty, because they typically need to go anywhere from 5 – 25 minutes after eating. With an older cat, bathroom time will be harder to predict but through careful and persistent observation you will be able to pick up on a pattern.
A young cat (4 months and younger) should eat 3-4 times a day. 5-15 minutes after your kitten is done eating, gently place him or her in the litter box.
If you see the kitten showing signs of wanting to go elsewhere (sniffing around, squatting) gently pick the kitten up and place him/her in the litter box. Yelling at or scolding a cat or kitten for inappropriate elimination will not help. In fact, it will simply make your cat fear you.
What’s more, if you scold your cat or kitten and then put them in the litterbox – this only worsens the problem as the cat starts to view the litterbox as a punishment.
This may also cause them to be afraid of going potty in front of you – which can lead to anxiety and stress, and also be a huge problem. So make sure you always make it a pleasant and happy experience for your cat or kitten to use the litter box. During the early stages of training, I’d suggest rewarding appropriate litterbox use with loads of praise and a delicious treat. On top of that, make sure the litterbox fits the cat.
What I mean by that is, a small kitten needs a shallow litterbox with short sides that he or she can actually climb into without help.
While at the same time, a large cat will get frustrated by a litterbox that isn’t big enough to scratch, dig and move around in.
If you keep finding kitty surprises right next to the litterbox rather than inside it, your cat may actually be going potty inside the litterbox, but the waste doesn’t land where it’s supposed to because there isn’t enough room.
If you are still struggling with litterbox training your cat after following these suggestions, I’d like to invite you to visit www.secretsofcats.com to get more information about solving common cat behavior problems.
