When you don’t feel like training because you are to sore, tired from a long day at work or your hand hurts or there are other things you need to get done these are excuses that you put in the way so you don’t achieve your goal. If two opponents of equal strength and fighting ability step into the ring the man with the stronger mind will be victorious. Here are some ways to train your mind to have the edge over your opponent. Take time to visualize your match or techniques in your mind with a clear, detailed and realistic picture for 10-30 minutes twice a day once in the morning when you awake and before going to sleep. This will feed positive messages to your subconscious mind.

• Find a quiet place in your home sit or lay down whatever makes yourself comfortable and begin to visualize.
• Always visualize what YOU are going to do not what your opponent is going to do because you can only control yourself.
• Visualize yourself always moving quickly, effortlessly and being victorious, standing over your opponent holding your arms high up in the air with the championship belt around your waist.

At first glance, higher education today might seem like a woman’s world.

Government officials have warned that men will face a struggle for good jobs in future as teenage boys shun university.

In 2006, 22,500 more young women than men went on to higher education. Ministers are increasingly concerned at the widening gender gap in higher education. Employers increasingly look to hire staff with degrees.

Consequently, men might find themselves marginalised in the jobs market.

Girls have been outperforming boys at GCSE, A-level and in university for years. But now girls are doing better at work too, earning more than boys in the first eight years of their careers.

In 2005, 80% of girls passed national curriculum tests in English, compared with 67% of boys.

At A level, girls passed 23.9% of exams at grade A, compared with 21.5% of boys. According to Higher Education Funding Council for England Figures last year showed 47% of 17-30 year-old women had gone into higher education in 2004, compared to 37% of young men.

Hefce chief executive Professor David Eastwood said: “We need to understand better why this is happening and start taking some action sooner rather than later.”

Higher Education Minister Bill Rammell said “The government has introduced a number of strategies to address the gap in gender achievement and to raise the performance of all pupil”.

The Raising Boys’ Achievement Project which looked at exciting and innovative ways of raising achievement across a range of primary, secondary, and special schools to identify and evaluate strategies which are particularly helping motivating boys.

Schools will be better able to address underachievement in the performance of boys and girls if they know when and where they emerge. A careful analysis of data, mapping the development of male and female pupils, particularly the value-added data, including a breakdown of data by key pupil sub-groups, will enable schools to plan when and how to intervene. Schools should monitor pupils’ progress regularly by gender.

Creators of The Amazing Race to produce Oprah’s reality show

The Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey is currently in discussion with Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri, the creators of the popular television reality series, The Amazing Race. Oprah is collaborating with van Munster and Doganieri with the aim of launching a charity-themed show called, The Big Give. The concept of the show is reminiscent of the novel “You Shall Know Our Velocity,” which was penned by acclaimed writer, editor and publisher Dave Eggers. The fictional work tells the story of two people who go around the globe to spend money in various charitable and innovative projects. Take the two people and multiply it by five, and you’ve got yourself Oprah’s new reality competition, with the winner, of course, being the most innovative of them all. The success of the show will still remain the hands of the viewers, but given that names like Oprah, Munster and Doganieri are behind it, it seems highly probable that The Big Give will be a big hit.

Given the recent controversy that Oprah has faced regarding the supposed overly strict system of her school in South Africa, one may feel that she is somewhat trying to lighten the situation by using a show to further highlight her charitable side. The issue came about after the students’ parents apparently complained about the school’s rigidity. However, Oprah has not responded to the issue with much defensiveness, and has calmly explained that the reason why she has imposed strict rules in her school is because she only wants the best for her students. She also said that she has already spoken to the parents, and told them that if they are unhappy with the school, they are free to withdraw their children.

On the other hand, Oprah may just want to further effect positive change by producing a show that rewards good and selfless deeds. After all, no matter what the reason may be, many people will surely benefit from The Big Give.

The process of hiring a professional contractor to tackle your bathroom renovations can make your head spin pretty quick.

First, there are many bath renovation companies out there. Look under ‘General Contractors’ or ‘Bathroom Remodeling’ in the phone book and you will see what we mean…there are hundreds of bathroom remodelers and general contractors in each area. On top of that, there are hundreds of other great contractors that remodel bathrooms but are not in the phone book.

Second, it is pretty easy to go around calling yourself a professional bathroom remodeling pro. People don’t necessarily need an office or a lot of fancy equipment or tools to start a business. Therefore, individuals that have done some repairs on a few houses or rooms can try to trick you into believing they are a highly skilled and experienced bathroom remodeling professional. If they have a truck, a tool belt, and a business card they could fool a lot of people!

Finally, there are many different types of contractors that remodel bathrooms. There are handymen, general contractors, builders, construction companies, and companies that specialize in only bathroom renovations.

So what do you do when looking for a contractor to remodel your bathroom?

We recommend:

• Asking your friends and neighbors to see if they have had good or bad experiences with local contractors. Simply knowing that another person has had a good experience with a contractor prior to calling them lessens your chance of hiring a problem.

• Call 3 or 4 companies to bid on your remodeling project. This will help you determine fair market price for your job. This does not mean you should always go with the lowest price. You should go with the company you feel most comfortable with and who you feel will do the best job. If an individual is offering a real low price you should ask yourself, “why?”.

• Decide exactly what you want to do to remodel your bathroom. At a minimum you should have a few general ideas before calling a contractor. They can help you make some final decisions, but you need to be able to explain your basic needs before letting them talk you into things.

• Try to decide if your work can be accomplished by a handyman, or if it is more involved. If you are simply laying some tile, painting, and changing some fixtures you should feel confident that a quality handyman could handle this work. If you are talking about tearing things up and changing the entire bathroom around, then your best chance of success is by hiring an experienced general contractor.

• Make sure the company has insurance. There is a chance for injury and for destruction of your house when remodeling a bathroom. As mentioned above there are many fly-by-night contractors that may not be insured. Ask them for their insurance company’s phone number and call them to prove they are insured. If you skip this part you could be held liable for an uninsured worker’s injury while working on your house. You could also be left with the bill for tons of repairs if an uninsured contractor leaves you with a destroyed bathroom or house!

• Ask if the bath remodel contractor will be able to handle all of the work you require themselves, or if they will have to sub some of the work out to other companies (such as a plumber). If they are subbing jobs out, make sure that their contract states that they are still directly responsible for all work. In other words, you will not have a situation where a plumber installed your new toilet incorrectly and the contractor is telling you that it is not his problem. What happens if you can’t get in touch with the plumber they hired after the job is complete? You want one person to be held responsible.

• If your bathroom remodel requires a general contractor, or you simply decide to hire a company that states that they are general contractors, make sure they have a valid General Contractors License

• Always get a statement of work performed in writing. Keep this filed away. Make sure the statements clearly state what work is to be performed.

• Ask if the bathroom remodeling comes with guarantees. These are factors to weigh when looking at the total cost estimates left by different contractors.

• Some contractors require an upfront payment. Agree to a payment schedule (which is a written document that clearly states how much and when payments are due). Make sure your payment schedule is discussed and documented on your contract prior to beginning work. Stick to this schedule even if the contractor asks for early payment. You do not want to get into a situation where you have paid for the majority of the bathroom remodeling work, but the majority of the remodeling in your bathroom is not completed!!…these situations often end in unfinished or poorly finished jobs.

• Check in on your bathroom remodeling progress regularly- try to catch potential problems or misunderstandings before it is too late.

Spring into Style

Spring is simply my favorite time of the year.  Every year, around this time, the major fashion houses in the world release their new designs to the hungry masses.  This season is certainly no exception, and some of the bags I have seen so far are simply amazing!  We all have certain designers that we have grown to love and trust, but some of the new players out there have really impressed me this year.  If you love purses and handbags the way I do, check out some of these new releases.

I have always been in love with Prada handbags.  In fact, it was Prada that first inspired my love affair with purses.  To be perfectly honest, I have never seen a Prada bag that I didn’t love.  This year they have impressed me to no end.  Words cannot describe the feeling I get when I see this bag.  I am talking about the new Prada/Jute Snakeskin Hobo.  For those you that love a bit of glitz and glamour, you will absolutely adore the gold snakeskin accents.  The tan leather trim really helps neutralize the flashiness of the gold, and the simple beige weaved jute brings it a real sense of balance.  The Prada logo is nicely located in the middle of the front side, beautifully mounted on a small wooden plate.  Absolutely stunning!

Fendi is another one of those designers I cannot be without.  While some of their purses are less-than-remarkable, certain others are nothing short of phenomenal.  I have been raving about the Fendi Spy to all of my friends, and now I share this little secret with you.  These might be difficult to find, as women everywhere are going mad over them.  They have a few different purses available in this line, but the one I truly lust over is the Fendi Floral Spy Satchel.  It is oh-so-cute!  This bag has a wonderfully intricate floral appliqué on the front side, and the leather is as white as pure driven snow.  Be still my beating heart!

Isabella Fiore has created what might be the cutest springtime bag ever!  Has anyone out there had the pleasure of holding the new April Woven Bag?  If you haven’t, I suggest you stop what you are doing and go find one.  If you have, please wipe that drool from your mouth.  It’s gross.  The handles on this bag are constructed from the finest braided brown leather, and the flowers painted on the side are the stuff dreams are made of.  Ooo la la!  It has a magnetic closure, and a wonderfully durable canvas liner.  I want to buy all of them up, so you can’t have one.  Happy springtime shopping, ladies!
