The Benefits of Electric Wheelchair Lifts
Electric wheelchair lifts help to move the wheelchair to various places at multiple levels. Electric wheelchair lifts are less expensive than hydraulic wheelchair lifts and are easy to maintain. They contain an emergency, battery-lowering device which makes them ideal for use during power outages. Electric lifts can be fitted with automatic door openers or telephone jacks as per requirements.
Electric wheelchair lifts come in many different types, including home stair lifts and automobile lifts, as well as van ramps.
Home Stair lifts can be installed anywhere inside or outside the house. They are designed to take up less space and to be quiet and comfortable. Home stair lifts can rise up to 23 feet and can lift up to 350 pounds. Some custom designed lifts can even handle more weight. The price of home lifts ranges between $2,500 and $4,000.
Automobile lifts can be fitted into automobiles to accommodate electric wheelchairs. They are very easy to operate and can be operated by one person. They can also be assembled and disassembled easily. Automotive lifts can be fitted onto most vans and cars. The price of automobile wheelchair lifts can range from $700 to $3,000.
Wheelchair van ramps help to lift the wheelchair into a van. Van ramps are much more affordable and easy to use as they are spring-loaded for easy lifting. They are also easy to maintain, as they are not mechanical. Van ramps can be folded in half and stored vertically, thus minimizing storage space. The price of wheelchair van ramps usually ranges between $500 and $1,100.
Electric wheelchair lifts are made of strong materials for durability. They are permanently lubricated and contain steel-hardened gears for resisting corrosion. Electric wheelchair lifts are available with a number of options like rocker switches in the hand-held control, manual back-up systems (in case of power failure), an emergency crank through handle, and limited wiring.
How To Change A Flat Tire – You Can Do That
My oldest daughter reached driving age not to long ago and one of the requirements for her license was for her to successfully change a flat tire on her own. I gave her a quick visual of where the equipment and tire was and then wrote down instructions for her to follow. I figured that if she could follow these instructions successfully then she was ready to be alone out in the car. By the way she was able to change the flat tire and stuck these instructions in the glove compartment in case of a flat tire later.
The steps below are the instructions I wrote up for her.
First make sure that you put the car in park in a level as possible area and set the parking brake. Make sure you have pulled off the road far enough to avoid traffic and turn the engine off. And don’t forget to turn on the hazard lights (flashers).
Get out of the trunk the spare tire, the lug nut wrench and the car jack. I pointed these out to her before hand.
Before jacking up the car, loosen the lug nuts, which hold the wheel in place. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the lug nut. Loosen every other lug nut first, then go back and loosen the others.
Carefully jack up the car and reference the owner’s manual for the correct and safe place to put the jack. Just Jack the car up a inch or so higher in order to remove the old tire and to be able to have room to put the new, full of air tire back on.
Continue by removing all of the lug nuts and set them aside in a place where you won’t lose them. The flat tire should be able to slide right off now.
Lift and place the new tire onto the wheel studs. Make sure that the valve, where you add air, is facing out.
Replace all of the lug nuts and tighten them by hand. Then tighten them with the lug wrench the same way you loosened them. Finally, tighten each lug as tight as you can.
Put the hubcap back on or in the truck to be put on later.
Once she did this she felt a lot more confident and comfortable about how she would handle a flat tire. I told her that there may be a time that she did not feel safe getting out of the car and that she should put her flashers on and move to the shoulder and call someone, if no one was available to just drive on the bad tire until she reached somewhere safe.
Everyone should take the time to get familiar with where the spare tire is, how to get it out of the car, and at least change a tire for practice.
The Advantages of Electric Wheelchair Scooters
Electric wheelchair scooters, or mobility scooters, are specially designed for providing mobility to disabled people. Electric scooters are high performance in terms of speed as well as safety. They are adaptable, affordable, durable and come with reliable warranties. Power mobility scooters are a great economic alternative to electric wheelchairs. They are available as portable/travel, three-wheel and four-wheel, front-end drive and rear-end drive scooters. The cost of motorized scooters ranges between $900 and $3,200.
Electric wheelchair scooters are steered with a tiller, which is something like a bicycle’s handlebar. They have speed control knobs to control speed between 1 and 5 mph. They can be disassembled for easy transportation. Since mobility scooters operate on gel cell batteries, they are safe for transport.
Electric wheelchair scooters are comprised of two kinds: Front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive mobility scooters. Front-wheel drive mobility scooters are basically for indoor use and for moving on leveled ground. They are powered by a 12-volt battery and have a range of 5-10 miles for each recharge.
Rear-wheel drive mobility scooters, on the other hand, can carry up to 250 to 350 pounds. Some heavy-duty models can even carry up to 500 lbs. Rear-wheel drive scooters are powered by two 12-volt batteries and can travel 15 to 20 miles per recharge.
A wide range of electric wheelchair scooters are available in the marketplace. Electric wheelchairs and scooters are being designed to suit individualized requirements. The latest models are more maneuverable, highly durable and lightweight. Most online as well as brick-and-mortar stores have experienced and expert staff to assist the customer when buying an electric wheelchair scooter. They also offer specialized services like maintenance and repair, provision of spares like cushions, tires and batteries, routine servicing as well as emergency services. There is also the option of buying used electric wheelchair scooters. All suppliers usually offer shipping services to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and many other countries.
Some of the most popular electric scooter brands include, Sunrise Medical; Merits; Pride Medical Products; Tuffcare; Shoprider; Golden Technologies; Ranger; Palmer Industries; Quickie; Wheelchairs of Kansas; Roho; Winco; Gendron; Harmar Bruno; and Silver Star.
How to Treat Adult Diaper Rash
Adult diaper rash is a common concern for incontinence sufferers. Typically, adult diaper rashes are similar in cause and symptoms to children’s diaper rashes. It is most often caused by skin irritations such as prolonged exposure to urine or fecal matter. Good hygiene is a key to preventing this uncomfortable and irritating rash.
In all cases, preventing diaper rash is best. We have all heard the adage “prevention is worth a pound of cure”; and this holds true when discussing adult diaper rash as well. Keeping the diaper area clean and dry with frequent changing can prevent most cases of adult diaper rash. Some people use a lubricating cream daily to prevent further chaffing from the diapers.
It is also a good idea to find a proper-fitting diaper, whether you choose the disposable or cloth diaper options. You should find a diaper that fits snuggly and comfortably without being too tight. You should additionally be sure to change the diaper frequently when wet to avoid prolonged exposure to acidic urine.
One downfall of using cloth diapers is that you must additionally use a plastic pant cover to prevent leaking. These plastic pants can increase the temperature within the diaper area and transform it into a breeding ground for bacteria and other germs. This is one reason that many people choose to use disposable diaper to prevent adult diaper rash. Disposable diapers are much more absorptive than cloth diapers, which usually results in less moisture being trapped on the skin.
It is also a wise idea to let the diaper area completely dry after a diaper has been soaked. You can additionally clean the area with a soft cloth and a very mild soap. Having a good hygiene regime and acting swiftly in your changing habits are the best ways to prevent adult diaper rash. If you should try these methods and still have problems with rashes, you can buy over-the-counter remedies in the form of creams. These creams often have anti-bacterial agents in them and usually clear up mild to moderate cases of diaper rashes very quickly.
Buying Adult Diapers
Incontinence suffers have many options if they need to buy adult diapers. Disposable adult diapers are available at all discount stores and pharmacies. Many of these stores also carry cloth adult diapers and the plastic pant covers. It is usually easier, however, to mail order or order online the cloth diapers from specialty shops.
Some incontinent people are embarrassed about buying adult diapers. Western society has always attached a social stigma to the loss of bladder control and linked it to a general loss of bodily control in old age. Although most of us are aware that incontinence is a sign of an underlying medical issue, the stigma remains. For those who are embarrassed to buy adult diapers from a retail store, online ordering may be a wonderful alternative.
You can buy adult diapers from a variety of online sources. A simple Google search will yield hundreds, if not thousands of results. Nearly all manufacturers of disposable diapers offer the same quality, although users will undoubtedly have their favorite brand that they claim has superior absorption.
When you first decide to buy adult diapers, keep in mind that you need a combination of key components to be a satisfied customer. Firstly, if you choose a disposable diaper, ask your doctor what degree of absorption you need. If you only have mild-to-moderate incontinence, you may not need a highly absorptive diaper. The adult diapers you buy should fit snugly without being too tight or uncomfortable. The diaper should have elastic legs that can further prevent leakage problems.
Your doctor may be able to recommend a good place to buy adult diapers. You can certainly purchase them at discount retailers and medical shops, or you can choose to discretely purchase them from online retailers. If you decide to use cloth diapers and plastic covers, you will either need to purchase them online, through mail order or a specialty shop, as most American retailers do not carry the cloth version of the adult diaper.
Take your Grandparents on a long Walk to the Fishing Hole
I have previously written about the power of exercise and omega-3s to protect the brain and improve function. Several more studies, released this week, added support for methods to keep elderly brains fit and agile.
Exercise Improves Brain Function
The first, published in the Journal of Gerontology and highlighted in the Wall Street Journal, demonstrates that a few hours of aerobic exercise a week helps keep brains young. The study followed three groups of adults, aged 60-79. One group performed aerobic training by walking around a gym for an hour a day, three days a week. The second group performed non-aerobic training by stretching and doing some resistance exercises. The third group did not exercise.
The study found that after only three months, the aerobic exercise group (but neither of the other groups) increased their grey matter in frontal brain regions that control higher functions, like memory, multi-tasking, focus and decision-making. The aerobic group also increased the volume of white matter tracks that cross the brain and carry communication signals between the two brain halves. The researchers likened the changes that occurred over the three-month exercise period as equivalent to making the brain three years younger!
Exercise Increases Independence
A second study published in the same issue of the Journal of Gerontology showed that seniors enrolled in an exercise program improved their physical fitness and independence level over those that were simply ‘educated’ about healthy living. After 6 – 12 months in the program, seniors that received physical fitness training were able to walk longer distances at higher speeds than those that just received information about exercise and nutrition. The study cited the importance of increasing independence in senior citizens in an age where medical science is extending the average life span of our population. Committing to healthy lifestyle choices will help us live longer and not just die slower.
Omega-3s Decrease Dementia
Finally, a third study was the most recent in a string of evidence touting the benefits of fish for brain health. This recent study actually looked at the levels of DHA, an omega-3 fat obtained from fish, in the blood of about 900 seniors (average age of 76). They showed that seniors with higher levels of the omega-3 fat in their blood had the lowest chance of dementia from Alzheimer’s disease or other reasons. In fact, the seniors in the top 25% of blood omega-3 content were about 50% less likely to succumb to the debilitating cognitive disease. The average intake of fish in these top performers was about 3 servings per week or 180 mg of DHA per day, which can be obtained from supplements.
These studies all sum up the importance of lifestyle choices on healthy brains and bodies in the later years. So when you see your grandparents this holiday season, plan a fishing trip. Dust off the poles and reels and take them for a walk down to the creek. A little aerobic activity, some fresh air and a dose of omega-3s will help them stay mentally and physically healthy.

Trucks
Truck manufacturing companies produce powerful, fuel-efficient, well-designed truck product lines. Trucks, whether they are long-haul highway tractors, daytrip delivery fleets, or specialized low-cab forward vehicles, are built to deliver excellent engineering for optimum productivity and ease of maintenance.
Several kinds of trucks and truck-related supplies or services are available for purchase or rental: heavy-duty trucks, construction trucks, refuse trucks, truck parts, truck service, and truck accessories. These include the Cargo, the Condor, the Argosy, the Business Class M2 100/106, the Business Class M2 112, the FLD SD, the Columbia, the Classic/Classic XL, the Century Class S/T and many others that are designed to meet any customer’s requirements. Some companies manufacture vocational trucks and tractors, while some provide services for the over-the-road, construction, municipal, and medium-duty markets. Reliable companies create practical transport solutions for domestic and/or international clients and refuse to compromise on the safety and environmental care built into each truck.
The sale of trucks is targeted towards an owner/operator, fleet manager, or self-employed delivery driver. Truck companies offer services like pH testing the coolant, checking the system for the condition of belts/hoses and leaks, checking the protection level of the coolant, and/or inspecting the condition of radiator mounts for free, if you download a service coupon from a company’s web page. You can get access to a large range of new and remanufactured parts, accessories and components from a truck and truck-parts manufacturing company. Purchasing an electronic parts book would give you a better idea of what you are searching for.
Performance items get a high ranking among truck enthusiasts, as do simple bolt-on cosmetic items, evidence that performance and off-road styled trucks form a popular segment of the truck enthusiasts. The top shopped items change over the course of a month and include gauges, cat back exhaust systems, street performance tires, steps and running boards, 4WD suspension systems, PROM chips, billet grilles and all-terrain tires.
Caregiver Contracts Make Things Clear
Caregiving is not the kind of topic that makes for pleasant chit-chat over tea, much like long term care and long term care insurance. Yet these are crucial issues to address boldly with vigor and verve, if you want future years to unfold gracefully.
So often our tendancies to ignore, deny, procrastinate and avoid can leave these issues unaddressed, and when the time for care is upon us (care which will VERY likely be needed, at least for half the population), then we could be left in an ugly, ugly situation.
Caregiver contracts are a new option for caring for aging elders. Use these formal agreements set up by an attorney.
A growing number of families are setting up caregiver contracts, in which relatives are formally hired to take care of elderly or disabled family members. These new arrangements, which can also be called personal-care or personal-service agreements, can help to reduce the size of a parent’s estate. They can also minimize battles between siblings and various family members. And for many other families, these contracts can help compensate for the huge amounts of time, effort and money that family members all-too-often often spend watching over and taking care of an elderly relative.
Amazingly, some 44.4 million adult caregivers, or over 21% of the U.S. adult population, now provide unpaid care to frail adults with disabilities. On average, those caregivers provide 21 hours of care a week, and what’s more, the average length of time spent providing care is 4.3 years.
Another reason to have a carefully-worded caregiver contract in place:
Recent legislation now makes it much tougher to qualify for Medicaid long-term-care assistance by faking impoverishment through outright gifts to family members. These laws were passed to prevent folks who have the means to pay for their own care from obtaining Medicaid, which is intended only for poor patients.
Attorneys say that if set up properly, a caregiver contract shouldn’t be considered as a gift to children, because the patient is receiving a true, real service in return.
Still, there’s stigma to overcome when recommending the idea to families. The main reason: Some people can still be uncomfortable with the idea of paying their own kids, say lawyers, and many folks choose to use long term care insurance coverage, instead of trying to fake their way onto the Medicaid welfare roles.
Adult Incontinence Diapers
It is estimated that more than 19 million Americans suffer from varying degrees of incontinence. We have traditionally and incorrectly assumed incontinence to be a normal side effect of childbirth or that it is something to be expected as we grow older. Doctors now know that incontinence can be a sign of an underlying medical condition. A physician should examine all cases of incontinence. Some may treat the underlying disorder, while others may choose to prescribe a medicinal treatment.
Adult Incontinence Diapers
Although we have always assumed that getting older was the cause of incontinence, we now understand that there are many causes for the disorder. It is estimated that nearly 86% of those suffering can seek medical treatment and expect to see results. Results may vary from a much lesser degree of incontinence to fully regaining bladder control. While some cases of incontinence are caused by aging, most cases are signals of underlying medical issues, such as enlargement of the prostate in men and loss of estrogen in post-menopausal women. These examples highlight the importance of seeking guidance, evaluation and treatment from your physician.
You can also look into the various other methods that can help to treat incontinence. Kegal exercises, which help to strengthen the pelvic muscles, are often an effective method of controlling incontinence. More serious cases may require medication, or even surgery. It all depends on the severity and your level of discomfort. Adult incontinence diapers are a good way to ease the discomfort from loss of bladder control.
While you are in the process of seeking treatment, whether it is medication, exercise or surgery, you will need to decide what kind of adult diaper to choose. Your doctor can assist you in finding the best brand of adult incontinence diapers for you. Fortunately, for most suffers of this disorder, many products are available to make their lives more comfortable.
AEDs – Automated External Defibrillators saving lives in USA
Statistics give us more and more information related to sudden cardiac arrests and other heart failures. More and more people and in earlier and earlier stages of their life die of a heart disease. Statistics, in the US alone, are extremely alarming:
- Every 30 seconds someone dies because of a heart disease;
- More than 2.500 Americans die daily because of heart diseases;
- Every 20 seconds there is a person suffering a heart attack;
- Each year 6 million people are hospitalized because of a heart disease;
- The number 1 cause of death in the US is a heart disease.
Although the AED is not an universal panacea for all heart diseases, nothing else can compete with its major feature – effectively re-starting the heart after it has been stopped by a sudden cardiac arrest. Because of their ease-of-use and portability, automated external defibrillators are being introduced in more and more public places, and chances are that AEDs will be as common as fire extinguishers in gyms, schools and airports.
From a technical point of view, an AED is used for ventricular fibrillation. In other words, an AED is used at the lower electrical level of the heart, when the two chambers called ventricles are no longer beating in a normal rhythm. The technical term describes that the ventricles are fibrillating, meaning that the muscle fibres of the heart contract spontaneously, rapidly, and irregularly. The heart is no longer capable to pump blood into the body, thus causing a sudden cardiac arrest. Here is where the contribution of an AED device is of great help – it has the capacity to re-start the heart. This is one good reason for a patient with a known history of heart diseases to have such a device at home.
Not long ago, the AED device was used strictly by medical professionals or by the crews of ambulances. Before the 1980s it was a large and heavy device and way too complicated to be used by a person without medical background, but things have changed.
Today, the AED is a portable and automated machine, slim and light and easy to be used by anyone in case of emergency. This device monitors the activity of the heart and determines if defibrillation is necessary. In case the Automated External Defibrillator detects a problem the AED will help you proceed to the defibrillation process by using audiovisual prompts and instructions.
So there are plenty of reasons why an AED device should be kept in all homes around the world. We all have relatives who died because of heart problems, so why ignore the crucial help such a device could offer?
Let’s return to the statistics concerning the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) incidence in US, because they give more and more reasons to have this machine at home:
- each year 325,000 Americans die because of SCA;
- 95% of those who suffer an SCA die before arriving to a hospital;
- every day, on average, 1000 people die of SCA;
- SCA brings death in a matter of minutes;
- The victims of SCA can be saved by using an AED.
It’s easy to hesitate and have second thoughts when a heart attack occurs, unfortunately SCA can not wait and the AED is a viable solution for emergency cases. And because AEDs are so easy to use (they require little or no training), more and more families will consider them to be a life-saving investment. With people spending money on home security systems, it also makes sense to purchase an AED that you can use at home in case a member of your family suffers a heart attack.

Retirement: Living or Just Existing?
Are you planning to retire?
If the answer is yes, are you preparing financially? If so, that means you will have enough money to do all the fun things you look forward to doing, instead of having to think twice about the smallest purchase. And, hopefully, you will plan so well that you will have more than enough money to pay for medical services not covered by insurance or Medicare. Unfortunately, many folks retire thinking, “I won’t need as much money anymore.” Wrong!
“Old age” is not free. Even if you have taken great care of yourself over the years, the older you get the more maintenance and repair you need and it can be costly.
But a happy retirement takes more than money.
There is something drastically wrong with the way we prepare for retirement. We are encouraged to plan financially, but who is advising us to have a plan to be healthy enough to enjoy the fruit of all the years of labor?
One thing is certain: Your employer or financial advisor will not likely help you develop a preventive health care plan along with financial planning advice. You have to do that yourself, and the sooner you do, the happier and healthier you will be in retirement.
As a pharmacist, I see many seniors well off financially, but their health is shot. They are alive but not living – just existing. In many cases, the culprit is not “old age” but years of neglect and self-inflicted health abuse.
There is no joy in having enough money in the bank while incarcerated in a nursing home or dependent on friends and family to tend to the most basic needs.
One other thing: It’s selfish not to plan to take care of yourself. Do grown children, perhaps in a bind financially, or with difficult teenagers, need one more problem?
Here are some basic suggestions to help insure a dynamite retirement:
• Start an exercise regimen. Today! No time? Invest in a treadmill and put it in front of the TV. While viewing programs that may insult your intelligence, pedal away and turn it into productive use of time. The key to making an exercise program work is consistency. It must become a habit, a “given” in your daily life.
Don’t like a treadmill? Get an inexpensive Gazelle. It’s a great, low impact calorie burner to use while watching TV, and it will help get your waist back.
• Love yourself enough to cut the processed stuff from your diet. You don’t need the edible junk advertised as food. Start eating more fresh food. If you love to cook, prepare quick, no-fuss, no-recipe meals. While eating can and should be a pleasure, your goal should be to eat to live, not live to eat. If you can adopt that attitude, you can quickly get over a destructive love affair with food. When you can toss out the deep fat fryer, you know you’ve done something terrific for your health and your future.
A huge bonus: Exercise and a more natural diet will lower cholesterol and blood pressure and you won’t need Pepcid or antacids. By the way, if you believe TV ads that show folks eating what amounts to dietary garbage, and then take an antacid to neutralize the ingested poison, rethink what you believe.
5 Proven Steps To Budget Motivation
If you ever wanted to get ahead financially… if you ever thought you wanted to get out from under a sea of debt… if you ever wondered where the money went… YOU NEED A BUDGET! But how do you develop a good budget and how do you stick with it?
Developing a Workable Budget
Review your last 12 months of check registers. If you find any cash withdrawals without an explanation other than “miscellaneous”, you must record all cash transactions for the next 30 days. It is imperative that you know where ALL money goes.
Insure you can account for each of the last 12 months of deposits written in
your register. If not, find out what they are. You must know all incoming monies.
Beginning at the top in the left hand column of at least a 4 column note pad,
write all income source labels down the column– i.e. INCOME: Wages, Bonuses, Other, Total Income, etc. Below this enter the obligations found in the check registers such as: Mortgage/Rent, Food, Insurance, Utilities, Phone, etc. Don’t forget periodic expenses such as: Home or Auto Repair, Other Transportations, Entertainment, Gifts/Donations, Health care, Property or Other Taxes.
Leave a couple spaces labeled “Miscellaneous” and “Total Expense”.
Find the payments you have made in the check registers for each expense.
Enter the amount on your budget pad column 2. For irregular amounts take a three or more month total and divide by the total months. For annual or semi-annual expenses divide by 12 or 6 to get a monthly amount.
At the top of your budget pad, label the other two columns… “Actual Expense” and “Difference”.
At the end of each month, enter the actual total for each expense.
Determine the difference between budget column and actual column.
If there is a difference either adjust the budget or determine a way to reduce this
item.
Motivation To Stay On A Budget
Step 1: Write down specifically what you are trying to do and by when. It must have a concrete time frame, it must be written down, and it must be specific and realistic. For example wanting “more money ” is not the same as “10% increase over last year by October first.”
Step 2: What are the obstacles? What are your inadequacies? What do you need to get there that you don’t already have? What is it that’s blocking you? Why aren’t you already there?
Step 3: Write a plan to overcome EACH obstacle. List your action steps 1… 2… 3… etc. for each obstacle from above. Be as specific as possible. What will it take to get you past the obstacle that is blocking you from what you want?
Step 4: List the benefits to you. There is no such thing as something for nothing. You must replace a thought process and resulting action with a new thought process that will produce a desired result. There must be a benefit derived of sufficient value and meaning to you alone to be worth the effort necessary to do this and to overcome the resistance to change.
Step 5: Is it worth it? This question must be answered very carefully and honestly. If the answer is yes, do it and DO IT NOW! However, if the answer is no, if the benefit derived cannot muster the desire to overcome the obstacle, you have three choices:
Change the goal thereby reducing the obstacle;
and/or increase the benefit to make it more meaningful.
Drop the entire issue and get on with your life without feeling guilty.
Bonus Step: If you really want to stay motivated you will have to reinforce your efforts through affirmations or self talk. In a few places around the house, place a simple statement of what you are trying to do and repeat the statement as often as possible. The more often you do it the faster the process.
Caregiving’s Costly Burden
Hey – If I had known that official government policy toward caring for elderly parents was that their children would have to do it all, well I would have had 10 kids.
While it’s said that those in the developing world have numerous children with the hope that some will survive to care for them when they’re old, those in developed counties have about two children.
Somehow I guess I thought our so-called developed world had some type of policies for elderly caregiving, but the United States simply doesn’t. While Medicare will take care of hospitalization for a heart attack, those who need chronic care for Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease or heart failure just have to depend on family, pure and simple. After that, long term care insurance coverage is the only answer.
Boomers can purchase long term care insurance for their own future care, but this doesn’t help the greatest generation that needs care now. With no program to address chronic care, Medicaid, a welfare program for the proven poor, has become the default option for much long term care – nursing homes. So if a person has the $90,000 needed in New York state, he or she can enter a nursing home. But that money will be gone within two years, and Medicaid will then pick up the nursing home expenses. About 2/3 of Medicaid goes to pay nursing home care for those who have outlasted their money. But remember, over 40% of nursing home residents are under age 65.
“Nursing homes are the last resort – where a disabled person will go when a family caregiver can no longer care for the relative at home,” said a doctor.
Studies show that a decision to place somebody in a nursing home comes not when the person reaches some type of medical criteria; it’s when a caregiver can no longer give the care because of health or financial reasons.
And while most don’t have the money to place a relative in a nursing home, many of the 80 percent of U.S. caregivers don’t even want to go the nursing home route. Despite being regulated by government, nursing homes, with a very few exceptions, aren’t places most people want to go.
Family caregivers adding home care for the disabled to their many other responsibilities, suffer physically and mentally. A nes report, “Study of Caregivers in Decline: A Close-up Look at the Health Risks of Caring for a Loved One”, details how the stress and worry about caregiving results in millions of caregivers neglecting their own physical and mental health, resulting in depression, fatigue, poor eating and exercise habits and greater use of alcohol, drugs and medications.
When these caregivers’ responsibilities and concerns are taken in the context of the responsibilities they also have for their own lives – including work and family – many caregivers are overwhelmed, and the stress can take the physical form of heart-attack scares, high blood pressure, acid reflux, headaches, arthritis flare-ups and other conditions, the report said.
The Benefits of Adult Disposable Diapers
Perhaps the most recognized form of incontinence absorption is the adult disposable diaper. We have all seen television advertisements for top selling brands like Depends. Adult disposable diapers are similar to diapers used by young children and are very absorptive.
Adult disposable diapers are made from gel-like polymer beads that, when dry, are very small, about the same size as table salt. When they become wet, they expand up to 800 times their original size. These beads are the key component in disposable diapers and are the reason that they are super-absorbent. Incontinence sufferers can choose from a wide range of absorbencies from light to severe incontinence. The beads, and all other materials used in the diapers, are non-toxic to humans, making for a safe and effective means of controlling wetness. Additionally, adult disposable diapers often have elastic in the leg portion that can further prevent leaking urine from escaping.
Adult disposable diapers come not only in varying degrees of absorbencies, but also in various sizes. The most commonly purchased sizes are small, medium and large. You should choose a size that will fit snugly yet comfortably. Diapers that are too large may result in an uncomfortable fit and leave room for leakage onto the body and clothing.
People who use the disposable adult diapers like them for many reasons. Firstly, they are generally more accessible and do not need to be washed and dried. There is no need for additional plastic pants. Others claim that you are better able to keep the skin dry by using a very absorptive adult disposable diaper than a reusable cloth diaper. Cloth diapers have to be changed nearly immediately after becoming soaked, which could pose a problem if you are unable to change it quickly. Disposable diapers need to be changed soon after wetting, but can handle much more absorption than their cloth counterparts.
Medical Alert Bracelets for Seniors
Senior citizens are an ideal age group for medical alert bracelet use. Medical alert bracelets for seniors are available in a wide array of materials. More so, these bracelets are vital in the event of a medical emergency.
Medical alert bracelets for seniors are vital. If an elderly person has a medical emergency, paramedics and other professionals can easily identify medical alert bracelet and note important medical information. For example, a bracelet may specify a diabetic’s information, or simply note that the person is diabetic. Medical alert bracelets for seniors speak for senior citizens when they may not be able to directly relay their medical history to a paramedic. In addition, if their family member who knows their medical history is not present at the time of the emergency, the medical bracelet can easily report that information.
These bracelets are ideal for senior citizens with Alzheimer’s, dementia, diabetes or a heart condition. Any condition is reason enough to take this important medical safety precaution. Especially when they travel and are not at home with their familiar doctor, a medical alert bracelet is a must-have item.
The key to getting senior citizens to buy and use these medical alert bracelets is to have a son, daughter or other loved one initiate the purchase if the senior citizen has not or is not willing to do so. By gently bringing up the matter, and letting the senior citizen know that medical alert bracelets for seniors are imperative for the child’s peace of mind, many senior citizens will be receptive and order the bracelet. Some senior citizens may need to be reminded not to take the bracelet off, or to put it on at least when they travel and are not at home. Children of the elderly, home healthy aides and other caretakers should take special precaution to make sure the senior citizen knows how important it is that he or she wears the medical ID bracelet.
Terrorism in Kashmir – India
India is fighting the terrorists in kashmir since 1989. Pakistan fought three war on kashmir- 1947-48, 65, 1971. but his every attempt to snatch kashmir from india become futile. Pakistan army understood the edge of indian army over pakistan army in conventional warfare. So change their modus operandi and wage proxy war against india. Pakistan support, trained and financed the local kashmiri youth for jihad against india.
In 1990 Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) terrorist group launch the terrorist activities in kashmir. JKLF attacked the indian army, para millitary groups and minority community hindu. They were demanding the freedom from india and declare kashmir as independent nation. JKLF terrorist group mostly comprises local kashmiri muslim. There agenda was to liberate the kashmir. During the period from 1990 to 1992 terrorist group created independent area in kashmir region like batmallo, sopore, kupwara, pulwama, anantnag where even india troops can’t enter. During that period it viewed to pakistan that kashmir is in their hand. But they were wrong, indian army, para millitary force fought these terrorists.
Then in 1993 Indian Govt raised the Rashtriya Rifles, an elite army unit created exclusively for counter insurgency operations in Kashmir valley. That was turning point in counter insurgency operation in Kashmir. Pakistan also raised many terrorist factions to counter the monopoly of JKLF group which was demanding Kashmir as independent nation rather than joined Pakistan. So many terrorist factions were trained and supported by Pakistan like Harkat ul-Mujahedeen, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Lashkar-e-Taiba. Even Lashkar-e-Taiba divided into two faction al-Mansurin and al-Nasirin. These groups philiosphy was to merge the kashmir in pakistan.
During 1993 to 1995 terrorist groups were fighting each other. Indian army and para military forces launch operations against terrorist groups. Even Special task force and special operation group was raised by jammmu kashmir govt to fight the kashmir terrorist. During these period local support to terrorist group was diminshing. Terroist groups were avoiding the direct encounter with security forces. Now their strategy is to use the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and launch grenade attack.
Kashmir millitancy phase from 1995 to now comprises mostly foreign terrorists from afghanistan, pakistan etc. They were funded, armed and trained by pakistan and pushed into the indian kashmir for jihad against indian army. These foreigner mercenaries or terrorist get monthy salary and even lump sum payment to there family on death, so called martayr. These foreigner mercenaries launch fidayeen or suicidal attack on the security forces for maximum damage. These tactics used to boost the morale the new recruit terrorists.
Now terrorists group have low morale and so called jihad is vanishing from the Kashmir. Even Kargil intrusion in 1999 was launched by Pakistan army to raise the Kashmir conflict in the international community. This shows that Pakistan and terrorists have low self esteem and confidence in their jihad. So far 90,000 lives were lost in terrorism in Kashmir.
Can Indian sub-continent afford another partition like 1947?
So, if you want to find out more about Kashmir terrorists or especially about jihad in Kashmir that Indian army is facing.
