When you can’t lose weight, the answer may be simple. Or it may be hard.


Maybe you really are just eating a little too much. Simple. Cut back.


Maybe you just turned 40 and as much as you hate to admit it, you’ll never have the body you had 20 years ago. Hard to admit, but with the right diet, you can still have a slimmer figure.


But what if you’ve had a long — maybe even a lifelong — battle with weight. And by that, I mean a serious weight problem, not just five pounds or so.


I’m not a doctor, I’m not a psychologist, I’m not a psychiatrist. And I’m not giving medical advice.


But I have observed enough people over the years to form this opinion.


For people with lifelong weight loss problems, the right diet can help. But it’s usually not about dieting. Because it’s not about the food.


Think about it.


Are you lonely, angry, depressed? Do you feel guilty, rejected, inferior? Or even unworthy of love or success?


Do you seek comfort in food because people let you down? Or maybe you feel like you’ve let yourself down?


Have you tried every diet there is and nothing seems to work? Or at least not for long?


Then consider this. When you dive into that box of chocolates, is it food or an escape?


Maybe there’s a sexual assault in your past. Maybe kids teased you mercilessly when you were young. Maybe family members always made you feel inferior. Maybe an ex-spouse — or a current spouse — made you feel unwanted and unloved.


You didn’t fight back. Maybe you couldn’t — literally, couldn’t.


So you turned to food. For comfort. For escape. For an excuse to drive people away.


Because when you’re fat, it’s okay to be shy. To be different. To be alone.


It still hurts. But at least, you have an excuse to hide.


You say you want to lose weight, you go on diet after diet, but when things get tough…


… you seek refuge in food. And it starts all over again.


So ask yourself this.


If you could go back to the one incident or the series of events or the period of time that led to your weight problem, would you choose to relive it all again just as it happened?


Or if you had the chance, would you change it?


Because every time you escape with food, you make the choice to feed your demons.


To relive whatever it is that hurts you.


To give people who bullied or hurt you the power to do it all over again. And again. And again.


So you have a choice to make. To relive or to live.


It’s that simple. And that hard.


If you can’t do it alone, seek out a trusted friend. Or better yet, a trained professional.


But ultimately, the choice is yours. Choose to let go.

They allow smooth movement, bending and elasticity. Without joints, you would be like the Tin Man.

Keeping healthy bones and joints is essential. If you do not take care of their health, you may feel the effects grow worse over the years. What, then, is the answer to keeping your bones and joints healthy? There are a number of ways of maintaining a healthy skeletal and joint system. Doctors stress various factors in your day-to-day life. They analyze your individual problems, genetic background and current life choices. They then focus on two distinct fields: diet and lifestyle. Within these two areas are five specific ways to maintain healthy bones and joints.

Diet

You are, so the saying goes, what you eat. There are certain foods connected with healthy bones and joints. Calcium is necessary for providing and maintaining healthy bones and joints.

Vitamin D is one of the better known. It helps the gut absorb calcium. It is available naturally but you can also take it in supplement form.

Rule number two, therefore, is to include Vitamin D and other enablers as part of your diet. Vitamin D is less common naturally than vitamin C. Foods rich in vitamin D include salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna, eel, shiitake mushrooms and eggs. Other foods such as cereal and milk are fortified with vitamin D. Acupuncture is an important part of Chinese traditional medicine. It has more than two thousand years history and plays an important role on human health in China. In Tang dynasty, it spreads to Japan, Indian and other southeast Asia countries. In the past two decades, acupuncture has grown in popularity in the United States. The second main effect of acupuncture is adjustment of organism functions. Treatment scope of acupuncture is very wide because it doesn’t treat diseases through medicine, but it adjusts organism functions. It is proposed that acupuncture produces its effects through regulating the nervous system, thus aiding the activity of pain-killing biochemicals such as endorphins and immune system cells at specific sites in the body. In addition, studies have shown that acupuncture may alter brain chemistry by changing the release of neurotransmitters and neurohormones and, thus, affecting the parts of the central nervous system related to sensation and involuntary body functions, such as immune reactions and processes that regulate a person’s blood pressure, blood flow, and body temperature. With the adjustment effect of acupuncture, it can be used on many chronic diseases, such as addiction, stroke rehabilitation and asthma.


Acupuncture is safe and side effects are minor, but since acupuncture involves puncturing the skin with needles, the potential does exist for harmful effects to occur, such as accidental puncture of lung that can lead to pneumothorax and bacterial infection from acupuncture needles. a qualified acupuncturist can avoid such side effects.

Don’t Lose the Fat: Why Some Diet Gurus May Have Steered You Wrong

It’s become a mantra. Fat is bad.


At least, that’s what almost all the diet gurus say.


But did you know that when we cut too much fat from our diets, we may be eliminating the very element we need to absorb the vitamins and nutrients that keep us healthy.


That’s because certain vitamins, especially in fruits and vegetables, are “fat-soluble.” In other words, your body can’t absorb nutrients unless enough fat is present.


So if you’re constantly eliminating the fat from your diet to cut calories or to follow the latest warnings, you may be getting far less healthful effects from your salads, other vegetables and fruits.


In studies released in 2004 and again this year by Ohio State University, researchers found that the absorption of carotenoids from yellow, orange, and red vegetables is better when you eat them with some fat. Carotenoids are believed to have cancer-fighting properties.


Here is a partial list of some fat-soluble compounds that may be absorbed better if you eat them with fat:


1. Beta Carotene. This can be found in foods such as cantaloupe and carrots.


The researchers suggest eating salads with full-fat rather than low-fat or no-fat dressings. So if you put carrots in your salad, full-fat dressing may help you to absorb the nutrients.


But with so many people unable to stay on strict low-fat or veggie diets, why not choose something that tastes a little better? For example, something that people in Pittsburgh once called a Boston cooler.


You cut a cantaloupe in half (leave the rind on), clean the seeds out of the middle, and put a scoop of chocolate or vanilla ice cream in the hollow of the half-melon.


Then place the half-melon in a bowl so it doesn’t fall over when you try to eat it. You eat the ice cream and the melon with a spoon.


It’s about 250 calories, but it’s a great snack or dessert. You get to indulge with ice cream, but still get some good nutrients from the cantaloupe.


It’s also filling. So you shouldn’t be as hungry as when you just nibble on a salad.


And the best part is that the fat in the ice cream may enhance your body’s ability to absorb the fat-soluble compounds from the cantaloupe. (Although no one knows for sure at the moment.)


2. Lycopene. This is the red carotenoid found in watermelon, tomatoes and pink grapefruit.


It’s also a potential cancer fighter. Researchers have shown that our bodies absorb the lycopene in tomatoes more efficiently as sauce, juice or ketchup.


Here again, rather than always eating salads with full-fat dressing, why not try cheese ravioli with tomato sauce? It’s a tasty, satisfying dinner.


And you may be enhancing your absorption of the lycopene in the tomato sauce with the cheese in the ravioli.


3. Vitamin E. This can be found in broccoli, mangoes, peanuts and spinach.


Some research suggests that vitamin E can help your heart and possibly prevent blood clots. But the results aren’t conclusive yet.


However, a recent German study with rats showed that eating trans fats actually slowed the absorption of vitamin E when compared to other types of fats. So this may get tricky.


4. Lutein. This antioxidant can be found in dark green, leafy vegetables like spinach and also in egg yolks.


Lutein is supposed to help your skin and your eyes, particularly in reducing the risk of macular degeneration.


I find it interesting that we’re allowed to eat eggs again when the food police vilified eggs for so many years – particularly egg yolks.


Have we also gone too far in vilifying fat?


So before you completely cut the fat from your diet, think about the nutrients you may be missing.


Now I’m not saying we should eat only high-fat foods.


But while it’s not healthy to go to extremes with high fat, it seems as though it’s not healthy to go to extremes with low fat, either.


Maybe it isn’t only the fat that’s making us fat, but also the number of calories we consume. Some moderation in both areas just might do the trick.


And I believe people are more likely to lose weight if they like the foods they eat.


So talk to your doctor about whether you really need to cut so much fat from your diet. Or is it healthy to have a little ice cream or ravioli once in a while?

Effective Slimming – Practicle Advices

In order to successfully reduce weight and get slim, you have to eat healthy food, you have to reduce your consume of fat and carbohydrates and you have to exercise regularly. Here are some practical measures to fulfill this goal:


- Reduce the total amount of food you eat.


- However, do not try to starve yourself. Eat regularly 4 (or 5) moderate meals each day. In this way your blood sugar level will not drop to low amounts that hinder you in doing physical activities, and give you an impulse to over-eat.


- Do not use fast-food or other sorts of pre-made food. Make your meals from pure raw ingredients that you buy yourself. In this way you have full control of what you put into your body.


- Do not eat between the meals.


- Each meal shall include some lean protein-rich element like lean fish, poultry, mushrooms or lean meat.


- Cut away all visible fat from meat, poultry or fish.


- Each meal shall also include some vegetables or fruit. These shall be raw or only gently cooked.


- In each meal there shall also be some whole corn bread or cereals, beans, peas or potatoes as a carbohydrate and energy source. It is important to vary the energy source from meal to meal. Do not only use bread or potatoes.


- Fat fish, nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, olives and the like contain very much fat. But the fat is of a type that is valuable for your health. You shall therefore eat some of these food types every day, but in moderate amounts. You may however choose to increase the amount of these ingredients in your diet if you reduce the amount of bread, and other carbohydrate sources.


- Do not add much extra oil, butter, fat sauces, fat dressings, sugar or sweet sauces to your food.


- The little fat you add to your food should be of natural chemically unaltered types like virgin olive oil, sunflower oil, rape oil / canola oil, soy oil, fish oil or natural butter. Vary the oil type to get all essential fatty acids.


- Ideally you should not consume sweet beverages, except fruit juice in moderate amounts.


- Reduce your alcohol consume. Alcohol is converted to fat in your body.


- Drastically reduce your consume of snacks, ice-cream, cakes, cookies, chocolate and the like.


- Do not consume great amounts of salt. Salt does not make you fat, but it binds water in your body and this excessive water contribute to your weight problem. When you loose fat, the fat also tends to be replaced by water. Reducing the salt consume will help you get rid of excessive water.


- Some people over-eat because of boredom. Find some new hobby activities or some new friends that share some of your interests.


- Do some physical exercise at least every second day. You shall include exercises that give your muscles some resistance in order to increase your muscle mass, for example weight lifting. You shall also include some activities that make you consume energy and build up your condition, like running, swimming and cycling. And you should do some stretching exercises, for example yoga postures.


- A supplement of vitamins and minerals can be useful to make your body able to burn fat effectively or increase your ability to engage in physical activities. When you reduce the amount of food you consume, also the amount of vitamins and minerals you take in will be reduced. This lack can be remanded with an extra supplement.

Two-fer Dieting: A Hot Way to Lose Weight… And Breathe Easier

If you’re like me, you multitask because there’s never enough time in the day. That’s why I like using a diet for more than just weight loss.


I call it “Two-fer Dieting.”


I first tried it years ago. You see, I was researching a medical problem when I discovered intriguing information about how foods may help certain medical conditions.


I was skeptical at first. But I eventually tried some of these foods on myself or a family member with exciting results.


We seemed to have the most success with using certain foods to reduce my mother’s blood pressure. In just 7 weeks, it dropped to 132/68 from 168/88. Without medication.


Can I absolutely prove it was the foods that lowered her blood pressure?


No.


But we tried it twice–under different conditions–and it worked both times.


I’d like to share with you–for educational purposes only–some of the other information I discovered.


So here’s a “hot” tip that may help you or a loved one to lose weight… and breathe a little easier.


Add chile peppers to your diet.


Yep, it’s that easy.


A study in the British Journal of Nutrition showed that hot peppers boost your metabolism temporarily. And that causes you to burn extra calories… at least for a while.


There are many kinds of chile peppers. Jalapenos, serranos, and habaneros are just a few. But usually, the smaller the pepper, the hotter.


A substance called capsaicin makes the peppers hot.


But chile peppers may do more than just boost your metabolism. And that’s where “Two-fer Dieting” comes into play.


You see, these hot peppers may also help with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, maybe even asthma. But you should check with your doctor to be sure it’s okay for you to try them.


Supposedly, garlic, Tabasco sauce and other hot foods work, too. But we used chile peppers–specifically, jalapenos.


I tried this with my mother. She’s an ex-smoker who developed emphysema and had to go on oxygen therapy.


Before trying the peppers, my mother was using oxygen more and more often. Even with medication, she’d have her oxygen on all evening while watching TV.


So one night, I talked her into trying a small bite of a jalapeno pepper. She was reluctant because she doesn’t like hot food.


But at my urging, she finally took one small bite.


She never swallowed it.


In fact, that little piece of pepper was only in her mouth for a few seconds before she spit it out.


Between wild gulps of milk, she accused me of trying to kill her. Her eyes were watering, her nose was running, her mouth was burning. Badly.


She refused to take another bite.


But that evening, she watched TV without oxygen.


The following night, I talked her into taking another bite of jalapeno pepper. She didn’t react as dramatically, but she still didn’t swallow.


Again that evening, she watched TV without oxygen.


After that, she refused to eat any more peppers. But the effects from just those small bites lasted about another two days.


I’ve tried to talk her into sampling a mild salsa or a few drops of Tabasco sauce in tomato juice. But she’s not budging.


As anyone who’s read I Love to Cheat knows, I had to devise a diet to meet her needs and wants. Or she wouldn’t stay on it.


And unfortunately, she doesn’t want hot food.


I’ve read of people greatly reducing their usage of oxygen or breathing medication after trying chile peppers. I even remember one case where someone supposedly got off oxygen altogether.


Do I know if these stories are true?


No.


But I thought it was worth a shot. And it did seem to help my mother. Even if it was only for a short time.


If she could have tolerated hot food, I would have encouraged her to eat a hot, spicy meal 2 or 3 times a week. Or if she could only eat small bites, then maybe a few bites each evening.


Dr. Irwin Ziment, Professor Emeritus of Clinical Medicine, Department of Medicine at UCLA, was quoted in or perhaps authored some of the research I read. I didn’t keep all those articles and studies because it was only for my personal use. I just remember his name.


But if you want to learn more, you can put his name or “chile peppers” into a search engine to see what you come up with.


Be careful if you handle chile peppers when cooking. You need to wear gloves or you can get burned. We bought jalapenos ready-to-eat in a jar. I think they were pickled.


You’ll probably want to avoid hot peppers if you suffer from heartburn or have bleeding problems. I believe chile peppers have anti-clotting properties.


I also believe there’s some controversy about chile peppers and cancer. In unusually high amounts, they may cause cancer. But some studies suggest that in lower amounts, they may prevent cancer.


There are no definitive studies so I don’t know which, if either, is correct. You may want to discuss this with your doctor.


My mother wouldn’t see our chile pepper experiment through, so I don’t know if she would’ve been able to get off of oxygen or not. But it seemed to help her dramatically for a short time.


So if you like hot food or believe you can acquire a taste for it, you may want to try chile peppers.


But see your doctor FIRST. You never know if you have a condition or take a medication that wouldn’t mix well with hot peppers.

You may have heard either experienced computer users or serious golfers lamenting that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has affected them big time. Just what is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and how can I prevent it from affecting my computer keyboarding and golf activities.

The hand to keyboard relationship is the most strained interface between you and your computer. Typing can be more than a bothersome task. Typing can cause permanent damage to your hands and wrists. It has been found that approximately 60 % of keyboard operators can be found to have recurring symptoms of keyboard related injury. Damage to wrist and hand function can be so severe that in approximately 10 % of those affected have had to contact health care professionals – be it Physiotherapist, chiropractor, medical gp or orthopedic medical specialist.


The most serious of the health problems associated with keyboard use is the same ailment suffered by chicken puckers and meat packers. The formal medical name for this ailment is Repetitive Stain injury (RSI). The name explains the cause. Straining to perform the same hand movements over and over again and again eventually leads to physical wrist and / or hand damage. The most common manifestation of RSI among computer keyboard users is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). In addition a similar ailment – wrist tendonitis has also been associated with extensive regular keyboard use.


The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in your wrist through your median nerves: it carries sensations for your entire hand. As well the median nerve affects the finger flexor tendons, which link your fingers to the muscles in your lower arm. The tunnel is formed by walls of solid bone on three sides with the bottom enclosed by the transverse carpal ligament, a tough inelastic cartilage.


Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when the tendons protect themselves from overuse. Each tendon is surrounded by a thick, fluid filled sac called a synovial sheath, which swells with extra fluid to protect the tendon. Scientifically, this swelling called tendonitis. When these sacs swell in the carpal tunnel, they can pinch the median nerve against the bones of the carpal ligament. This can result in the loss of sensation in the hand and debilitating pain.


Although the problem develops over a period of years, the onset of pain caused by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the onset of pain is often sudden. Some sufferers have no symptoms at night and wake up the next morning with excruciating pain. Often these people with carpal tunnel syndrome are unable to work for months. And it is not only the computer skills that suffer.
It is not as if these people can lead normal lives. Other enjoyments such as the game and sport of golf may not be possible to be played. In most cases those afflicted with carpal tunnel syndrome have ignored all the pain warning signs: a minor pain in the wrist after a day of typing or some numbness in the thumb or fingers.


People have been typing for over 100 years, yet Carpal Tunnel Syndrome appears to be a recent phenomenon. The diagnosis is not new, and the condition is not caused by a recently evolved virus or bacterium. People’s typing habits have actually changed.


Today, a computer user’s fingers stay as close to the home row on the keyboard as possible, a simple press of the pinkie is all that is needed to issue a carriage return. Old typewriters required a definite change of the position and a resounding right hook to send the carriage back to the left after each page, and the end of the page, the typist had to extract one sheet and roll a new one in the typewriter. All of these simple necessary acts added variation to the typing process. Computers encourage extended use, resulting in hour upon hour of entering and editing text and data.


These difference between classic typing and modern keyboarding hint at one way of avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: What can you do to prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or reduce your symptoms?


First you may wish to replace your keyboard with an ergonomic friendly model. Avoid the following hand and wrist postures – ulnar deviation where the wrist is bent outwards in the direction of the little finger, abduction – where the hands and arms are angled together in front of the body rather than at shoulder width. Avoid flexion which is the anatomical term where the wrist is bent down in such a manner where the fingers are lower than the wrist joint. Extension of the wrists and hands where the wrist is bent up and back so that the fingers are higher than the wrist joint. Finally pronation is a bad idea. Pronation refers to the anatomical term describing a forearm and hand position in which the hand is open, palm down and parallel with the flat surface of the desk or floor.


If you are involved with computer keyboard tasks for very long period of times of time here are several tips to spare your keyboarding and golfing abilities and skill levels. Try to keep your wrists straight while typing. Adjust your chair so that as you type, your elbows are at the same height as your wrists. A proper computer desk which lies at the proper height rather than an old office desk that you just happened to have lying around is an excellent idea. As well spring on a proper, adjustable ergonomically designed chair. Be sure that you rest your wrists often.


Lastly and most importantly take frequent rests and relaxation periods along your conquests.
It may be important to be on par with the other players in your office. However it is false economy at the end of the game if both your keyboarding skills and golf game on the fairway suffers.

If you answered no, are you absolutely sure? Because your life may literally depend on it.


Almost one in three American adults has high blood pressure. For black Americans, it’s closer to four out of ten adults.


These numbers are even more alarming when you realize that only a third of people with high blood pressure have it under control and another third don’t even know they have it.


**The Silent Killer**


Although it has no symptoms, high blood pressure can cause stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure. That’s why it’s called “the silent killer.” It’s also considered a risk factor for developing dementia.


Blood pressure is the force pushing against the artery walls by the flow of blood. It’s measured as two numbers given in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg), such as 140/90 mm Hg (which is said as “140 over 90″).


The top number, 140, is the systolic reading, or the highest pressure reached when the heart beats. The bottom number, 90, is the diastolic reading, or the lowest pressure when the heart relaxes between beats.


The medical community used to define normal adult blood pressure as below 140/90.


Now they’ve revised that to less than 120/80. Anything between 120/80 and 140/90 is considered to be prehypertension. Supposedly, this indicates a high risk for developing hypertension.


So it was a surprise to many people when they went from being healthy to being prehypertensive simply because doctors had changed their blood pressure classifications.


**The Surprising Killer**


But here’s a shocking fact that kills no matter how the doctors classify it.


Did you know that a person who usually has normal blood pressure can experience a sudden spike that can kill him?


It’s true.


Strenuous weightlifting – e.g., bench-pressing more than half your body weight – can cause your systolic pressure to spike to 300 mm Hg or more. Especially if you hold your breath while lifting.


Other risky activities are vigorous sports like squash or racquetball.


Weightlifting and other vigorous sports don’t cause permanent high blood pressure. So how does a temporary surge in pressure kill you?


Well, it could cause a stroke, a deadly tear in your aorta, or aortic dissection.


A tear in your aorta, the main artery in your heart, usually occurs if you have an undetected aneurysm, which is a bulge in the aorta. Most people with an aneurysm don’t know they have one.


Aortic dissection happens when the walls of the aorta split and blood enters between the layers. You’ll feel an excruciating, knife-like pain. Only immediate surgery can save your life.


So if this type of weightlifting or intense aerobic activity can kill a person with normal blood pressure, it can be even more dangerous if you already have high blood pressure.


**Get Yourself Checked**


That’s why it’s so important that everyone, whether healthy or not, have his or her blood pressure checked regularly by a physician or other healthcare professional. You should also discuss your exercise routine with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you.


There are two types of persistent high blood pressure, essential hypertension and secondary hypertension. Only your doctor can tell you which type you have.


**Weight Can Be a Factor**


Essential hypertension is high blood pressure for no apparent reason, although diet, excess weight, and heredity may be contributing factors. About 95% of people with high blood pressure have essential hypertension.


The second kind of high blood pressure, secondary hypertension, is caused by some other medical disorder such as kidney disease. If your doctor can treat the underlying condition successfully, secondary hypertension will often disappear.


If the underlying cause can’t be eliminated, then doctors often treat secondary hypertension the same as essential hypertension.


The use of blood pressure-lowering drugs is recommended at levels of 140/90 mm Hg or higher.


**Watch Out for Side Effects**


But the medications can have unpleasant and possibly dangerous side effects, especially at higher dosages or if a combination of drugs is used.


And it may take a few tries before your doctor finds the dosage or drug combination that is right for you.


In my family, we know the dangers of these medications firsthand. We also know the tragedy that high blood pressure can cause.


My maternal grandmother had high blood pressure for decades. Even with medication, it was never completely controlled. She died of a stroke at 85.


So when my mother developed high blood pressure, we knew we couldn’t wait to treat it. But she didn’t want to take drugs. Instead, we tried a dietary approach.


In just 7 weeks, her blood pressure dropped to 132/68 from 168/88. Without medication or exercise.


And eventually, her blood pressure declined to 112/64.


But everyone is different. You should consult your doctor to decide which approach – medication, diet, exercise, or otherwise – makes the most sense for you.

If that’s true, have you ever wondered how your dieting behavior affects your kids?


Before you choose a new diet plan, here are some things you might want to do for your kids’ sakes as well as your own:


1. Avoid perfect diets.


You’re not perfect. Nobody is.


If you choose a diet that requires perfect eating behavior, you’re setting yourself up for failure. And you’ll probably beat yourself up when you inevitably cheat – and cheat big.


If you don’t set realistic standards for yourself, your kids may think they have to meet impossible standards of perfection, too.

3. Don’t eliminate any food groups when you’re dieting.


You need proper nutrition and so do your kids. So make sure all of you eat a balanced diet with enough choices from all the food groups. That way, all of you will stay strong and healthy.


Losing weight doesn’t depend on cutting out certain foods or food groups. It’s just a matter of cutting calories. Wisely.


Anyone who tells you anything different is misinformed or lying. It’s calories. Period.


4. Set a sensible weight loss target for yourself.


You don’t want your kids to look like they’re anorexic. Neither should you.


It’s not healthy. And it’s not attractive, either.


Besides, we all know that magazines touch up those celebrity photos so our favorite stars look perfect. It’s fantasy. It’s illusion. It’s not real.


So get real. Diet down to a healthy target weight, then stop. There’s no need to go to some fashion extreme. You wouldn’t want your kids to do it, would you?


5. Avoid yo-yo dieting.


If you’re jumping from one diet to another with no real success or if your weight fluctuates wildly, then you’re choosing the wrong diet plans. Skip the extreme diets that torture you until you break.


You need to choose something you can live with so you can lose the weight once and for all.


Does that mean you’ll never gain an extra pound or two?


Of course not. But if you choose a realistic diet plan, you’ll discover how to handle minor setbacks so they don’t become major problems.


At the same time, you’ll show your kids how to cope with weight loss in a healthier, less frustrating way in case they ever face the same problem as adults.


Show your kids that dieting doesn’t have to be torture. That it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. That you don’t have to become an emotional basket case.


Show them that you can have a life and still enjoy it-even when you’re losing weight.


It’s better for you. And it’s better for them.


6. Don’t overreact if you cheat on your diet.


You don’t want your kids to obsess over body image. And you certainly don’t want them to have their entire self-image wrapped up in what they eat, do you?


Then don’t do it to yourself.


It’s easy to let a diet consume your life. Every conversation, every thought, every action seems to be about food and calories and fat grams and whatever else you’re counting on your diet plan.


Yes, you have to become more aware of what you eat when you want to lose weight. But do yourself and everyone around you a favor.


Keep it in perspective. Plan your meals. Then live your life.


If you deviate from the plan every once in a while, oh well. That’s life. Move on.


If you choose a realistic diet plan, it won’t be the end of the world. And you’ll still reach your weight loss goals.


Every diet plan should allow for those times when you need to indulge.


That way, you’re more likely to succeed. And everyone around you will be happier if you’re not obsessed with your diet.


Plus your kids may learn to keep their body image in perspective, too.


7. Get your doctor’s approval before you start any new diet plan.


This is probably the best thing you can do for your kids. Show them how to be sensible and how to take proper care of their health. Show them by taking care of your health.


It’s the best gift you can give them.
