How many times have you looked at magazines and found all of the neat little products that help to organize your home and thought, “I could be organized if I had this, but I can’t afford it?”

Everyone at one point or another has thought this way. The true reaction of anyone wanting to be organized, looking for a way to get all of their belongings under control and someone that really cares what their home looks like.

I just thought that I would let you know that you can afford to be organized! Sure, it would be nice to have all of the cutsey things and the matching containers and all of the nice divider containers, but it isn’t necessary in order for organization to take place.

The best way to get organized and to stay that way is to take your time, use what you already have or purchase the minimal items that you need and then evaluate what you would like to use to permanently organize it.

I have had people go through countless different sizes of Rubbermaid containers just to find out that they didn’t need half of what they bought and now they have to figure out how to organize the containers. Sure seems like a long way around to achieve an objective, especially when the objective is to organize and save money.

Let’s just take a linen closet as an example; we want to organize everything according to item and size. We have towels, sheets, tablecloths, doilies and blankets in our closet that are falling off of the shelves. Gosh, where do we start. It’s a mess and it is impossible to see how it is going to look any better without spending a lot of money. You are wrong!!

First, we need to take everything out of the closet and put it in ‘like’ piles. What are ‘like’ items? Let’s start with the sheets; we have 4 sets of Full Size Sheets and 4 sets of Twin Size Sheets, so now we know that we need 2 boxes big enough to hold 4 sets of sheets each. Now that wasn’t so hard was it?

We have 6 Bath size Towels, 6 washcloths to match and 3 finger tip towels. It doesn’t make sense to separate the sizes of the towels and we don’t have enough of one kind to make sets, so we need two boxes. One to hold 6 Bath towels with matching washcloths and another to hold 3 fingertips towels that we can buy big enough to store extra dishtowels in. So at this point, we need four boxes.

Next, we need a box for the tablecloths and one for the doilies and something that is big enough to store the blankets in. This is where you are going to make your one and only purchase; buy a vacuum bag large enough to hold all four blankets. Put the blankets in the bag, attach the vacuum hose and pull the air out. Now you should have a small enough container that it will fit just right on that shelf.

Go to the grocery store and get 6 boxes that are about the size that 1 gallon bleach bottles come in. This will be plenty big for your project. If you feel you want to decorate the boxes, you can use gift wrapping paper, comics from the newspaper, contact paper or plastic throw away tablecloths for wrapping them.

Now put a paper label on it to make sure that you know what is inside by just standing back and looking at the boxes. You would write the labels such as; Full Size Sheets, Twin Size Sheets, Bath & Washcloths, Fingertips & Dish Towels, Tablecloths, and Doilies. The blankets you don’t have to label because they are in a clear see-thru container.

Can you picture how great this is going to look when you are finished and it really didn’t cost you a lot of money either!

Don’t Let Bedroom Design Overwhelm You

For something such as a bedroom design you’ll want to think long and hard about precisely what it is that you’re going to do. One that you feel comfortable in because after all it is you and possibly your mate that will be spending the time there.

Then ideally you should settle down on a color scheme. It doesn’t need to be the same as the one in your existing bedroom design, it might be nice if you can change the whole thing round and turn the whole room on its head. After you settle on a color scheme there is only way to go and that is forward.

Start purchasing the new trappings and fittings you’ll need to fit in with your new bedroom design and just put it into place. And since you have everything you need to change some in your old bedroom design, you can take your time and rearrange everything at your leisure. See what fits best where and whether you need to add a little something extra. Now, it’s just a matter of settling in and fetching a good look at the bedroom design that you did, and enjoying the new trappings and new fittings.

Weight – a lifetime battle

If we look back to my “early years” I realise that I had problems with my weight as long as I can remember. I was a chubby during Kindergarden, I was a chubby child in school and I was chubby teenager. Never really on the fat side of life, but always with a little bit too much weight on my bones. Appetite control or healthy weight loss were never even discussed in our family and, as far as I know, in other families. Both my parents liked a good meal, both did not count calories and the portions were always more than enough.

You have to understand, we are talking the sixties and early seventies. Weight loss or even healthy weight loss was not discussed amongst people, the medias were not yet aware of health and weight issues. Nobody spent a thought about appetite control, because now was really the first time after World War II, where almost everybody had enough to eat, the economy was recovering and for most people and families the life got better and better. Nobody wanted to control anything and for sure nobody was interested in appetite control, because eating was just too nice.

The biggest blame, if one really wants to use the word, was to put on my granny. For her it was important to have always enough, better more than enough, food on the table and in the house. For her having some overweight was not bad, it was necessary to survive the next war. For sure, she did not want to hear anything about appetite control. Quite contrary, I remember her saying many times that I should be happy that I have such a “healthy” appetite. Healthy weight loss, although obviously never mentioned, would have been an oxymoron for her.

Years, actually decades, later I do not have a hard time to understand her and I certainly hold no grudge. Experiencing and surviving two big wars and bringing children through the second, certainly was not an easy life and things like diet, appetite control or healthy weight loss, were never even crossing her mind, because everybody was basically trying to stay alive and not to starve.

Be that as it may, during my childhood and my first teenage-years I was on the heavy side and not even unhappy about it. Most other kids were the same as I was, I always had friends. Never being the most popular kid, never being unpopular. Just running with the majority and within this majority, nobody discussed, or thought about, diets, appetite control, or healthy weight loss. We were just a bunch of happy, chubby kids, playing, running around and just having fun and nobody thought that anything is wrong with that.

Getting out of my childhood and out of puberty, I still was not on the slim side of life. Clearly at that age, I am talking 16, 17, one gets really and seriously interested in the “other half” of mankind, or as some call it: men! And unfortunately this was also the time, when I first realised that being slightly overweight might be a good thing for a war, but was seriously limiting my chances with the boys. So I began “weight management” or better, what I believed at that time to be weight management.

Good tools aren’t cheap and experience woodworkers know the difference between a good tool and a poor tool. So, don’t try to guess and fool them.

Also if you’re purchasing the carpenter tools for somebody who’s been at it for quite a hefty sum of time then the last thing that you’ll want to do will be to give them lower-ranking grade carpenter tools. Something which comes in a set might be good for the novice who is just starting and thus has no clear idea of what they need, but that unquestionably won’t do for the experienced carpenter. They need the good tools for several reason and yes one might be for the ego.

These carpenter tools should be of first-class caliber so that the receiver of your gift realizes the time and effort you put into purchasing the perfect carpenter tools for them. Planning your wedding can be stressful, don’t feel alone. There are many couples who succumb to the stresses of wedding planning.

The best advice is to make a plan and make it as early as possible.

It’s a good idea to follow wedding etiquette but not to a point where it will make you crazy or cause you to go broke. There are plenty of books and articles on wedding etiquette but their suggestions are not written in stone.

8. Small wedding, have family and friends provide the food and beverages

9. Buy your own alcoholic beverages with an agreement to get a refund for unopened bottles

One word of caution, always check out those you are going to buy from or hire to perform a service. Do or have someone do a little research for you to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

Don’t let the wedding planning get you down. Remember it is your wedding and you are the one making the decisions. You are in charge. Get what you want. You can do it. You can have the dream wedding that you’ve always wanted without being overwhelmed.
