Home Remedy for Yeast Infections

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Yeast is actually the common name for the fungus Candida Albicans. These are tiny organisms that normally grow on the skin around and inside the vagina. The acidic environment of the vagina keeps them from growing. If the acidic levels of the vagina fall, the yeast grow profusely and this leads to a vaginal infection. The acidic balance of the vagina changes due to a variety of reasons such as menstruation, pregnancy, diabetes, frequent use of antibiotics, birth control pills, steroids, unhygienic conditions, frequent exposure to semen, chemicals used in soaps and tampons, and wearing tight clothing that restricts the skin from breathing.

Some people believe that candida infection causes, or at least contributes to, fibromyalgia. Dr. William Crook, MD, originally proposed the concept of candidiasis as a contributing factor to a number of difficult-to-diagnose disorders. There is still some controversy about Dr. Crooks work, but more people are beginning to agree that candida may have a role in fibromyalgia and other illnesses.

You should also be careful when using any form of antifungal cream. There have been a number of cases in which these medications have shown little or no effect on yeast infections. This is because the yeast has grown a resistance to the medication. This occurs when the medication is overused, which is why it is important to only use this product when you have been positively diagnosed with yeast infection.

Once in the blood, Candida can cause symptoms such as migraine headaches, irritable bowel, Crohns disease, eczema, hyperactivity, weight gain, chemical and inhalant allergies and rheumatoid arthritis. Candida short-circuits the bodys defenses at its deepest levels. Thats why attempts to rid the body of any of candidas symptoms without addressing the candida itself, usually prove futile, and why doctors have a relatively poor track record treating many of these conditions.

Candida Albicans causes countless health problems for a great number of men and women. These health problems may be caused by moderate or severe Candida infection affecting the various parts of their bodies. Candida Albicans has the ability to produce 75 toxic substances that can poison the human body. The toxins that are produced by the Candida parasites and contaminate the tissues and weaken the immune system, the glands, the kidneys, the bladder, the lungs, the liver, the brain and then the nervous system.

If you suffer from yeast infection theres a good chance that you might not be aware of it, or that you might mistake it for something else entirely. There are yeast infection signs which can tell you whether or not you have a yeast infection, but sometimes these signs are the same as some other infections.

There are many contributing factors that may cause the disruption of the bacterial balance in the genital area. Overusing antibiotics is a common cause of yeast infections; the antibiotics will not only kill the bad bacteria, but it will also kill the good bacteria that regulate the yeast in your body. Killing these good bacteria will allow the yeast to grow unregulated, causing an infection. Change in hormone levels can also contribute to the formation of a yeast infection by changing the pH balance of the vaginal area. If the genital area becomes too acidic the bacterial balance could be disrupted.

Acupuncture in the Treatment of Infertility

Last Updated: 2011/10/07

Child bearing is a wondrous thing. Unfortunately, some couples suffer through infertility issues. Acupuncture in the treatment of infertility may offer non-drug solutions.

Acupuncture in the Treatment of Infertility

Although there are many people who still view acupuncture as more mumbo jumbo than anything based on scientific fact, it is the area of the treatment of infertility that acupuncture has seemed to gain the most acceptance among the skeptics. This is especially true when the cause of the infertility is functional rather than structural. Structural infertility would be a condition such as a blocked fallopian tube. Functional infertility would be a condition where the cause is rooted more in either a hormonal or emotional problem.

Of course, the acupuncturist looks at the treatment of infertility as he does at all conditions that suggest a disharmony within the natural order of the human body. Studies have shown that acupuncture is extremely effective when it is used in conjunction with such infertility procedures as “in vitro” fertilization. It is thought by the Western practitioner that this is due to the stimulation of certain essential gender specific chemicals within the female body by the insertion of the acupuncture needles. It is also thought that the sense of mental well being and confidence that often accompanies acupuncture is helpful as well.

The acupuncturist would see the reasons for the success rate as a restoration of blood flow to the reproductive organs and the stabilization of hormone levels within the body. This aids ovulation and even sperm production in males and these factors make the chances of conception more likely. Even the most skeptical physicians admit that acupuncture is virtually without risk and they often take a “more is better” approach when dealing with most infertility issues. This means that anything that can not hurt you might help.

Most acupuncture treatments that are designed to treat infertility problems will be coupled with herbal medicines. There are a wide variety of herbal preparations that are thought to have a desirable impact on infertility problems. It is fairly common for most acupuncture treatments to be coupled with herbal treatments as well as diet and other lifestyle related approaches. This is typical of the approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine to treating the whole person and not just a specific disorder.

Although acupuncture has also been shown to reduce miscarriages and troublesome pregnancies, there are certain acupuncture points that are not thought to be safe for needling during the later stages of pregnancy. These acupuncture body points would be well known to an experienced acupuncturist. Western practitioners still recommend that you select an acupuncturist who specializes in infertility and pregnancy treatments.

It is not surprising that statistics show that most Britons simply do not shop around to get the best deal on their car insurance. The choice of motor insurance policies, and insurance companies, is almost bewildering.

However, if you do accept the first quote you are given, whether you are an experienced driver or not, you are simply giving away your hard earned cash to your motor insurance company far too readily.

There are a huge amount of car insurance policies advertised online, in your local press, and a myriad of deals available from the larger retail supermarkets. Yes you want to save time and money, but if you target your requests for quotes properly, you could save hundreds in less than an hour online.

Many car insurance companies claim to offer policies for all types of drivers. Simply asking just any random insurance company for a quote, isn’t going to save you money. If you are a new driver, a learner, a student, or a motorist with little driving history, you need to get a specialist number quotes.

So where do you find these companies?

You could start by using a search engine, asking a friend for a recommendation or phoning a company up for a quote, but before you do anything else -

Stop!

Decide what you want to achieve before you take any action.

Do you want a fancy car insurance policy with lots of extras? Policy add-ons that could cost you more are:

- Having a replacement courtesy car – Insisting on a protected no claims bonus – Extra Legal protection – Taking fully comprehensive insurance if you don’t need it

There are other services on offer from insurance companies, but if you do not really need it, why bother.

Yes, if you simply want a really cheap price, you’re in good company because that’s what over eighty seven per cent of people said in a recent survey.

Follow this simple three step plan to reduce your car insurance premiums online:

1. Set aside just one hour to request your motor insurance quotes online.

2. Get four car insurance quotes (use three price comparison sites and one specialist insurer).

3. After you have received your quotations, telephone the insurance company with the cheapest quote and ask them to beat your best online quote (you don’t need to tell them where you obtained the quote).

The above three steps sound almost too easy, but using price comparison sites really is the most efficient way to begin your search for low prices.

There are a number of price crunching web sites online. To provide you with a rate, they will ask you some basic information about yourself, what level of cover you need, and then request quotes from up to 300 different car insurance companies in a single search.

With car insurance premiums climbing higher each year, particularly for learner drivers, students and young drivers, make the insurers work for your business.

How to Achieve Your Goals with a Positive Mental Attitude

Last Updated: 2011/10/06

Happiness is something we all want. Good times with friends, and close relationships are the things that make us feel complete as people. But in these present times there are many distractions that leave us feeling overwhelmed and that we don’t have full control in our life’s situation. It seems that we always have to trade one priority for another to accomplish our daily tasks.

In the meantime, our relationships with the ones we love may suffer. Oddly enough, the solution to bringing more happiness into our lives may begin with how we deal with our own perception of ourselves.

To put this in its proper perspective, a positive mental attitude begins with the things that we tell ourselves on a subconscious level. In other words, how a man thinketh is how he will become.

There are many things that will distract us from being successful and happy with ourselves. Sometimes we think in our minds that we are somehow lacking in a certain capacity, or that a task is virtually impossible to complete because of circumstances beyond our control.

This is only a preformed attitude that we have developed by negative self talk. We have almost “programmed ourselves” into believing the worst possible outcome. It is this defeatist attitude that will perpetuate the cycle of failure every time we attempt to accomplish our goals.

To change the outcome of our situation we must “reprogram” our minds at the subconscious level with thoughts of a positive nature. Then when distractions and negative input comes along from other people, you have to learn to immediately discard them.

Simply let the “garbage in” and then “throw the garbage back out” of your mind. This will let you focus on the positive thoughts that you have placed in your subconscious mind. The result is a clearer perspective of your opportunities for success and the attainment of your goals. The trick here is to keep feeding your mind positive thoughts.

Here are 5 ways to promote your positive mental attitude:

1. Visualize yourself doing exactly what you want to accomplish in your own mind. Practice makes perfect. This is true of mental visualization of the accomplishment of your goal too. Imagine yourself doing what you want to accomplish and walk yourself through the steps necessary to achieve it in your mind.

2. Repeat this mental exercise over and over until it becomes a reality in your mind. Then the actual accomplishment of this goal will be easy to make happen in your life.

3. Write down your goals on paper. This way you will not forget them. And by reading your goals back to yourself every night before retiring, your subconscious mind will work overnight to bring about positive change for the next day.

4. Your subconscious mind can only react to the thoughts that you give it. To bring yourself success, you have to keep feeding your subconscious mind with positive instructions about what you want it to do for you. This technique will put your success on autopilot!

Acupuncture Meridians

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

When discussing acupuncture one cannot do so without bringing up meridians. In many ways, acupuncture is the focus and manipulation of meridians for overall well being.

Acupuncture Meridians

They have been compared to many things. Some people look at them from the world of nature and they see rivers and streams flowing through the body. Others look at them from the world of technology and see copper wires on a control panel carrying electricity through over a complex control panel. These are the Acupuncture Meridians that carry the vital energy force through the body.

There are 20 of these Meridians. Twelve of them are considered main Meridians, and eight of them are called extra Meridians. There are also a few branches or offshoots of the main Meridians. The Meridians are sometimes named for an organ although the connection is not an exact one. For example, the Lung Meridian runs out of the arms, does pass the lungs, and turns around in the area of the large intestine.

The Chinese acupuncture theory came to some conclusions about the nature of energy and matter over 5,000 years ago. They identified two distinct types of energy. One was physical energy and the other was called subtle energy. Both of these energies were in a constant state of vibration. Physical matter is vibrating slowly and can be detected and even seen and felt. Subtle energy is vibrating very fast is unseen. Despite this the Chinese accepted subtle energy as every bit as real as physical energy. The theory of Yin, the energy of earth, and Yang, the energy of heaven enters into this as well. These opposite energies have combined in human beings and created inside them a balance.

This balance is maintained by the flow of subtle energy through the Meridians. Western scientific knowledge has not accepted the existence of the Meridians because they have not been able to see them or touch them. It is thought that the kind of internal connections that Traditional Chinese Medicine associates with Meridians is actually accomplished by the central nervous system.

The Acupuncture Meridians are very carefully mapped and on them are the acupuncture body points that act like switches and dams to control and regulate the flow of qi energy to the parts of the body where it is lacking, or even to drain it away from areas where it is too abundant. The Main Meridians and two of the Extra Meridians have their own distinct points. The other six Extra Meridians are controlled and regulated by combining stimulation of combinations of points located on the fourteen.

The History of Acupuncture in the United States

Last Updated: 2011/10/03

Acupuncture has been an excepted medical practice throughout Asia for thousands of years. The history of acupuncture in the United States is less lengthy.

The History of Acupuncture in the United States

Acupuncture found its way into the United States in the same manner that so many other things have reached this country. It was brought with the immigrants. In this case, it was with Chinese immigrants brought into the West to work on railroads and in the fields. Large Chinese enclaves grew up in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and in New York City on the east coast. Acupuncture was a standard form of treatment in these settlements just as it had been back home in China. The Chinese had been using acupuncture for centuries and also had very little trust for Western Medical treatments.

Although there were a few incidents of Westerners becoming involved with the study and practice of acupuncture in the United States during the 19th century, it was never widely practiced outside Chinese areas. It also was never widely accepted. It was considered superstition and totally unscientific and little attempt to understand it was ever made. When the Communist Government started a campaign to rid China of all traces of Classical Chinese Medicine, many acupuncturists made their way abroad. Some of these came to the United States which increased the number, but still little was done to understand and adapt it to Western use.

One of the big turnarounds for acupuncture in the United States occurred during a State visit to China by Richard Nixon in the 1970’s. During this visit, a member of the U.S. delegation was given an emergency appendectomy. The only anesthesia that was used was acupuncture. The President was duly impressed and when he returned to the US, he called for further study of the procedure. It was the beginning of the move of acupuncture from a foreign voodoo-hoodoo type of thing to a respectable and accepted alternative Medical treatment procedure.

In 1994, the Washington Post was reporting that almost 15 million Americans had tried acupuncture. This was almost 6% of the total population. In 1995, The United States Federal Drug Administration classified acupuncture needles as medical instruments. The biggest turnaround came in 1997 when the National Institute of Health issued a report titled, “Acupuncture: The NIH Consensus Statement.” This report stated that acupuncture was indeed very useful in the treatment of certain conditions. It also stated that the side effects of acupuncture were less adverse than those resulting from either surgery or drugs.

The NIH report further encouraged Insurance Companies to give full coverage to acupuncture treatments for certain conditions. This was a major endorsement of the procedure. Today, acupuncture is becoming more and more accepted as an alternative treatment and is gaining acceptance by the Western Medical Community. Some Medical schools including UCLA have begun to offer acupuncture as part of the curriculum.

Holistic Healing – The Basis of Modern Medicine

Last Updated: 2011/10/01

The main purpose of holistic medicine is to create a system of true “wellness.” In order to achieve a natural and harmonious balance you need a disciplined regimen to maintain this harmony. Holistic healing makes you look at the whole person through an analysis of physical, nutritional, emotional, environmental, and social lifestyle values. It makes your conscious and subconscious mind work together. Did you know it’s your subconscious mind that carries your fears and anxieties?

In conventional medicine anxiety attacks, and fears are treated with a drug to dull the pain but it isn’t addressing the pain. Holistic healing addresses the whole problem by going through the emotional makeup, looking for triggers that set off the anxiety; works on those triggers; and tries to diffuse them; eliminating the need for drugs.

Holistic healing was practiced for thousands of years before modern medicine came into being. The Mayans and the Egyptians used holistic methods to before performing surgery. They did brain surgery; but surgery was always used as a last resort, and was successful. Many of the medicines on the market today come out of holistic curing.

Take aspirin for example, a derivative of the willow bark. Bayer used the knowledge he gained from the Native Indian medicine men and women who were using willow bark as a remedy. He had his chemists break down the ingredients of the willow bark and recomposed it into a chemical called aspirin.

The problem is that once you create a chemical drug, you remove the natural buffers and elixirs that make the herb safe. Many patients taking these drugs begin to experience other problems. These problems could include headaches, gastric upsets in the stomach and colon, liver failure, kidney problems, adrenal glands going haywire, the destruction of the pancreas … so, in some cases, you now need another drug to counter the effects of the first drug.

Let’s take a headache as an example. You have a headache so you take an aspirin or other drug to help ease the pain. That is what conventional medicine is all about, right? Deadening the pain; with no regard to the cause of the headache.

In holistic healing, however, the root cause of the headache is looked for and that is what is treated. Say two people have a headache. One person might have that headache because he/she grinds their teeth, be it at night or during the day. The other person may sit hunched over all the time, in which case the ache would come from the cervical or thoracic area of the back. The solution: aids to stop grinding your teeth; and proper posture. The headache is taken care of naturally.

The problem with conventional medicine is that the medicines being produced by the drug companies don’t have the natural buffers and elixirs that are in the herbs. The herbs are recombined as a chemical without the natural buffers or restraints that make them safe. This is not to say you shouldn’t take conventional medicines, or that they are unsafe. It simply a process that takes place during the production of drugs.

A combination of holistic healing and drug use may be the right answer for a particular situation.

Holistic healing techniques are very relaxing. You may even be using holistic healing methods and not even know it. They include Acupuncture, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Yoga, Massage, Herbal Therapy, Imagery, Meditation, Acupressure, Homeopathy, Hypnotherapy, and Reflexology.

Role of Alternative Medicine in modern society

Last Updated: 2011/10/01

Typically, alternative medicine differs from traditional medicine in that alternative medicine is older and what we might call unconventional or non-Western medicine. Alternative medicine does not follow the traditional science and research that current medicines undergo. Alternative medicine could also be termed complementary or traditional medicine or the therapies that can be integrated into current medicine. The staff of the National Library of Medicine of the United States classified alternative medicine under the category of complementary therapies in their Medical Subjects Heading Section. This was done in the year 2002. The definition provided was that alternative medicine therapeutic practices were not considered as an integral part of the traditional allopathic medicine. Therapies like acupuncture, dieting, physical therapy like exercises or yoga, etc. are termed as alternative medicine. These therapies are called complementary when they are used along with conventional treatments. If they are done in place of conventional treatments, they are known as alternative treatments.

In April 1995, the panel of National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, worked on Definition & Description, CAM Research Methodology Conference, Office of Alternative Medicine. The panel defined alternative medicine and complementary medicine as those healing resources that encompass all health systems and practices that are different from the dominant health system of a particular society or culture. Usually, therapies like ayurveda, herbal medicine, folk medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, naturopathy, diet practices, chiropractic, music therapy, massage, pranic healing, etc. are classified as alternative or complementary medicine. People who do not find a cure, remedy or success in allopathic medicine generally try alternative medicine. Such people generally suffer from cancer, arthritis, acquired immuno deficiency syndrome (AIDS), chronic back pain, etc. Therapies included under alternative medicine would cease to be included in that category once their efficacy is proven and they are considered safe and effective. They are then considered as part of traditional medicine. An example would be chiropractors. Twenty years ago insurance would not pay for them as they were considered “alternative and ineffective.” Today thousands of people have been helped by chiropractors and they are now recognized in the medical community. A similar movement is underway in the nutritional supplement and nutraceutical industry.

Over the years, more and more people have been using alternative medicine because traditional medicine is not working for them. The 2004 survey by the National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine of the United States revealed that approximately 36% of Americans used alternative medicine in 2002. If alternative medicine is used in conjunction with traditional allopathic medicine, an integrative doctor is a person’s best option. Some traditional doctors are adamantly against or simply do not believe in complementary medicine, even though research continues to show the benefits of many compounds. Your doctor should be informed about other approaches you may be using and if they are not comfortable with that then always feel free to choose another doctor. This would enable the doctor to foresee any possible complications or a better time in which to use a complementary therapy. The concern in using alternative medicine stems from the fact that some practitioners of alternative medicine do not have an accredited medical degree and therefore do not have a valid medical license. However, in recent times, many educational institutions and universities have started offering courses in homeopathy, ayurveda, siddha, unani, acupuncture, and naturopathy. The recent growth in this industry is evident by the many people demanding different, and in some cases better, care than what they are receiving in “modern medicine.” They are no longer accepting the fact that they need to suffer with pain or illness because modern pharmacy does not have a magic bullet for them.

Natural Remedy for Yeast Infection

Last Updated: 2011/10/01

Vaginal candidiasis is not considered a sexually transmitted disease. However, 12% to 15% of men will develop symptoms such as itching and penile rash following sexual contact with an infected partner.

Probiotics are those little bacteria numbering in the billions that help you live a good healthy life. They help to process food and enhance the absorption of B vitamins. You can end the chronic yeast infection that plagues you by simply starting a daily long term use of probiotics.

Most women would love to know if there was a natural yeast infection cure. If your yeast infection is not that serious, you can treat it naturally. There are a lot of ways and steps on how to prevent yeast infections from occurring.

Candida yeast infection symptoms aren’t going to go away without treatment. In fact, the symptoms will worsen the longer you leave the infection untreated. Ask someone! Someone whom you trust and aren’t embarrassed to discuss such feminine matters with. Chances are very good that any woman you talk with, or even any male physician, will know that you’re most likely experiencing candida yeast infection symptoms.

Chronic yeast infections have signs and symptoms that vary depending on the location of the infection. This infection is very common to women. Its signs and symptoms consist of a white discharge that is itchy and irritating to the vagina. It can affect the surrounding outer tissues of the anus where a moist patch appears on the contiguous skin of the anus. Candida yeast infections also cause pain during sexual intercourse and a burning sensation during urination.

How to Use Cascara Sagrada as a Constipation Remedy

Last Updated: 2011/09/14

Cascara Sagrada comes from the bark of the buckthorn tree. It stimulates your colon to produce stronger contraction than normal. When it does this, it can work on the most difficult and chronic cases of constipation.

It is one of the herbal constipation remedies with a strong laxative effect. It will be found in many herbal combinations that are mixed for constipation. Cascara has Chrysophanic acid, which stimulates your colon wall to produce peristaltic action. Cascara also contains a chemical called emodin, which controls the strong action of Chrysophonic acid thus producing a balanced laxative effect.

If you use cascara in a constipation remedy mixture, do not use this mixture for more than thirty days. After 30 days take a rest from it. Do not use Cascara in large amounts and for long periods since it can cause intestinal distress and become habit-forming. When you use it, you will see results in 1-2 days.

Cascara Sagrada also stimulates secretions from the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and stomach. These secretions give Cascara additional laxative effects.

Do not use Cascara Sagrada if you have irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, or ulcers. Use Cascara for a limited time. It can become habit-forming and, if used for an extended time, it can increase the risk of colon cancer. Its use also causes you to lose potassium with each bowel movement.

If you have liver problems do not use cascara sagrada full strength. Use it in combination with other herbs. Cascara is known to put a strain on the liver.

You can take Cascara Sagrada as a single herb for constipation. As a single herb, it can cause cramping and nausea. However, I recommend you used it with other herbs. In an herbal combination, the combination can detoxify your colon, tonify your colon walls, cleanse the blood and produce other synergistic actions.

In Michael Murray, N.D., book called The Pill Book Guide to Natural Medicines, he talks about the drug interaction of cascara sagrada,

“Cascara and other stimulant laxatives may decrease absorption of other drugs that pass through the gastrointestinal tract. If you are currently taking an oral medication, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before self-medicating with cascara. Cascara may potentiate the action of digoxin and other heart medications due to potassium depletion. The use of cascara with thiazide diuretics and corticosteroids may further decrease potassium levels.”

Recommend dose for the cascara sagrada, as a single herb, is 350 – 1000mg just before bedtime.

Use 1-4 cascara sagrada powder capsules a night, but do not use these capsules for more than 10 days. Start with 1 capsule a night and increase the amount each day until you get results you want.

For a laxative tea, use one teaspoon of cascara bark in 3 cups of boiling water for 20 minutes. Drink 1-2 cups of tea just before bedtime after it has cooled to room temperature.

Cascara Sagrada is a strong constipation remedy and will help you clean out your colon even if you have chronic constipation. Use it sparely and for a short time.

What is Esmolol and for what Esmolol is used?

Esmolol is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers work by affecting the response to some nerve impulses in certain parts of the body. As a result, they decrease the heart’s need for blood and oxygen by reducing its workload. They also help the heart to beat more regularly. Esmolol is a fast acting beta-blocker and is only given by slow injection into the veins.
