Short Lesson On Handling Money For Young Kids
Parents are more aware nowadays that financial literacy is important for kids. If children grow up without the knowledge of handling money, they will end up paying for debts or credit card bills when they are old.
We teach children about money as they grow up. For young kids, it is probably harder for them to understand. I made use of the idea of using what kids like to let them learn about money first. This is suitable for kids from about three and a half years old.
This lesson is about “You cannot spend more than what you have.”
I gave my two kids sixty cents each. Each of them spent twenty cents playing games. They are now left with forty cents. They decided that they want to buy sweets and chocolates instead of spending the remaining forty cents on games.
We proceeded to the candy store. They politely asked the shopkeeper how much the various chocolates, sweet and crackers cost. Most of them cost more than forty cents ( about sixty cents to a dollar) except for a lollipop which cost exactly forty cents. I gently reminded them that they had only forty cents and that I have no more money. They finally decided to get the lollipop even though it was not their first choice.
The lesson is that even though they like the chocolate more than the lollipop, they cannot buy it because they are only left with forty cents. I would not encourage them to borrow money for daily pleasures in life (unless it is for a calculated risk business). I thought it was a pretty good lesson because the children still got a lollipop in the end. It was a win-win for them and for me. If they cannot find anything for forty cents or less, then they cannot buy sweets. They could, however, use the money for games instead. It is their choice.
This seemingly simple theory is usually forgotten when we grow up. There are simply too much temptation for us that we find it very difficult to resist. There are perpetual sale the whole year round and most of us try to comfort ourselves by buying things we do not really need just because it is cheaper than the usual price.
There are new gadgets and new models of everything. (e.g. handphone, television, computer etc) We are nearly always tempted to buy new and better things. However, are they really necessary? There is no issue if you have excess money of course. Most of the time we do not really need these things but it would be ‘good’ to have them.
Be aware and do not fall into the trap of advertisers. Advertisers have to do their best to market their products and make sure you feel you must have it. Think about it seriously before buying it. The old model may work just as well but not as trendy. Spend where it is necessary and where you can get the best returns. Remember to weigh the advantages and disadvantages.
Lemon Law Lawyer Could Be Useful
Since the first lemon law was passed in 1982, all fifty states have enacted some form of consumer protection for owners of defective automobiles. The laws vary greatly from state to state, but the premise is the same – people who buy new, defective vehicles are entitled to receive a replacement or a refund. This works well on paper, but in practice, the process can be rather time consuming and complicated. Some states have rather straightforward requirements for which vehicles qualify; others are far more complicated. Some states allow the owner to sue the manufacturer directly; others require that the owner submit to manufacturer or state sponsored arbitration procedures first.
Since lemon law claims are complicated and are not the sort of thing that most consumers handle more than once, there is some advantage to hiring an attorney to help. In many cases, hiring a lawyer isn’t necessary, as the system was designed to let the consumer handle the case without legal assistance. But there are many unexpected circumstances that can turn up in these cases, and most people could benefit from the help of an experienced attorney.
Here are some examples of how an attorney can help:
Speed up the process – Manufacturers are notorious for finding excuses not to pay on a claim. They may be more likely to be cooperative if the consumer has hired legal representation, especially if you have hired one with a proven record of success in lemon law cases.
Arbitration help – Arbitration programs tend to favor the manufacturer. They fund the programs, and many arbitrators are on their payroll, given them ample reason to rule against the consumer. While most states do not regard arbitration decisions as binding, many consumers who handle the cases themselves give up after losing an arbitration decision. The presence of an attorney can help.
Advice in a poor case – Some states require the consumer to pay the manufacturer’s legal costs in the event that the consumer should lose his or her case. These costs can run into the tens of thousands of dollars. If your case is a weak one, an experienced lawyer could save you this money by letting you know ahead of time that you shouldn’t pursue it in court.
In most states, consumers who win their cases are entitled to compensation for attorney’s fees. That being the case, there is a strong argument for at least discussing your defective automobile with a lawyer before you seek a refund or replacement for your defective vehicle.
Power
In earthly terms, power is the ability to get things done. At a deeper level that is both spiritual and practical, power is based on principle and integrity. An understanding of Universal Principles gives you power. Universal Principles teach you to live from the inside out, to refrain from attachment, and to live in alignment with who you are.
You can become great, by earthly standards, by using force to gain riches or popularity. You can achieve earthly greatness by cultivating powerful beliefs and still choose not to acknowledge your Source. In either case, you can fool yourself into thinking that your personality has power, exclusive of any Higher Power. These kinds of success make you dependent on outside factors for your well being.
The person who finds his power in money, loses his power when the money is gone. The movie star who finds success through a beautiful appearance and popularity loses her feeling of power when the body changes or when popularity wanes. If money, popularity, or other external factors drive you, then you fear losing them. Your fear causes you to think, act, and speak in ways incongruent with your Inner Being. This is not power at all, since you are owned by whatever outside factors you think you must have.
You may use spiritual principles to get money. If the money is your source of well being, then you are owned by it. If money is your god it will surely fail you. People owned by their money, or owned by their desire for money, are powerless. Their well being is subject to the rise and fall of their fortunes. This is not true well being.
Power and well being based on spiritual strength are not subject to outside factors. There is no fear of loss to a person with spiritual power. Money may come and go, but the Source always provides what is needed. Money, fame, pleasure, or physical prowess may bring enjoyment, but they are only forms of well being. Forms change; essence stays. True personal power recognizes this and does not invest its well being in the form. True well being always comes from within.
Our ability to align with Universal Principles will have us in our power. There are many Universal principles. Here are five that have held special meaning for me:
1. There is only one Power and One Source from which all good flows. This Power is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. Nothing exists outside of It. We are expressions of this One Power. There is no separation. You are one with your Source.
2. All life comes under the Law of Cause and Effect. You will reap what you sow. You will attract that which resonates with the state of your mind. All thoughts are creative. Every thought and every feeling that emanate from you manifest as something in the world.
3. You are continuously sustained by the Love of the Creator. The only reason you experience something other than love and well being is that you block this pure positive energy. You block it by thinking your well being comes from something earthly. When earthly “sources” don’t deliver, you feel fear. Love is the essence of all creation. All forms of creation are empty of meaning by themselves. The Love of the Creator expressing through you brings joy and well being. You feel this joy and well being wherever you are and with whatever you have.
