First Agreement – Be Impeccable with your Word
The first, and perhaps the most important of THE FOUR AGREEMENTS are: BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD
One of the key messages I’ve received and want to transfer to you is about BEING your word… Who do you say I AM? Jesus once asked his disciples, “Who do you say I AM”. Whoever you say you are is who you create yourself to be!
God answered the question by saying — I AM THAT I AM when the burning bush spoke to Moses – and each of us is defined by who we say we are.
It is vital that we ask continually – who am I being right now? Who do I have to be to achieve what I want to achieve or demonstrate more – whatever it is I desire? Our word is really synonymous with our self-definition.
And, being impeccable with your word means you are very careful about what you say after you say the words I AM in particular…. We define our lives by the way we see ourselves and we actually SPEAK our lives into being by our self-definition.
One of the most powerful uses of our word is in what we call Treatment or AFFIRMATIVE PRAYER. Those who have been in class with me over the years have learned a lot about how I required IMPECCABILITY with the very wording of that prayer first, in being absolutely clear on your INTENTION and your purpose – we get what we EXPECT not necessarily what we desire or ask for. We are godlings – so what we speak is creative – So, we want to be sure we Say only what we mean.
Be certain our words are words of Gratitude – for what we complain about or what we give praise for – is what we get more of…. Whatever we focus on, increases. Emmet Fox teaches the Golden Key- turning from whatever may appear to be the problem or the challenge and focusing on TRUTH and GOD instead. (Much more on that in the future, I promise!)
Come to know that there is a POWER for Good in the Universe and YOU can use it! Really come to KNOW that you KNOW and that when you speak your word, the Whole Universe supports you…
The most important Question you’ll ever answer – is the Universe a Friendly place? Your answer to that will determine your life’s experiences…
Trust that you are ALWAYS supported…
God is GOOD – All the time..
Religious Conflict between India and Pakistan
It is indeed a shame to associate conflicts with religion. Does Christianity summon Christian extremists to bomb abortion clinics in the West? Does Islam summon Muslims in Palestine to kill Israelis and themselves in suicidal attacks? Does Hinduism preach kidnap and kill those who are against Hinduism? To most Indians – and I am sure Pakistanis as well – and also most people of other religiond will agree that such practices are wrong and must be condemned. Religions do not contain inherent “conflict-genes”, making unsolvable conflicts an inevitable outcome of their co-existence. Conflicts involving religion are always the result of misperceptions in our minds.
In mid-nineties Samuel P. Huntington became widely known for his fright-provoking prediction of a future worldwide clash of civilizations. This new dilemma would amount to nothing less than a “re-making of the world order”. The Cold War logic of states uniting with either of two ideologically opposed superpowers would be replaced by a pattern of unity determined by the dominating religions. A possible outcome of this separation of the world society would be a world order derived from and determined by religious differences. Looking at the current international scene one could be tempted to conclude that actual happenings are giving real life to Huntington’s scenario.
Western political elites especially are applying an approach, portraying Islam as the root cause of terror. This is dangerous. It threatens to demonize followers of a specific religion thereby running the risk of producing endless counter-demonizations adding to a security dilemma of Cold War type where every step taken by one part is perceived as a threat by the other who then has to retaliate… Essentially, the approach is also an assault on the religion Islam itself. It implies that all Muslims are extremists, which is as inaccurate as saying that the ultra rightwing moral majority in USA fairly represents Christianity. One of many shortcomings in the world of today is judging Islam by the conduct of a minority of its people. If a religion is to be judged on its role in conflict this should logically be done on the basis of its sources, not on the basis of extreme acts of a tiny minority of its self-proclaimed followers. In the case of Islam the sources are the Qur’an and Sunna (teachings of prophet Muhammad), e.g.: “Allah commands justice and doing good and giving to relatives. And He forbids indecency and doing wrong and tyranny. He warns you so that hopefully you will pay heed” (Qur’an, 16:90).
Even though religions are essentially about building peace, they are unfortunately sometimes misinterpreted and misused. When this happens, it is a result of constructions of the mind about religion and about “the other”. In the current global conflict between religious fundamentalists and secularists, for instance, each party perceives and talks about the other as posing threats to their societal orders and ways of living. When secularists preach secular state, pluralism, and abolishment of Sharia-laws, fundamentalists perceive it as attacks on Islam. Secularists on the other hand perceive religious fundamentalism as an existential threat to their societies and ways of life. They almost regard the secular society as something holy. What were once open societies have become xenophobic entities.
Many religious leaders have expressed the need for harmony and unity in the fight against terror. Ironically, the biggest obstacle seems to be the political leaders who are fully occupied with demonizing “axis’s of evil” and “opponents of freedom”. There is need for clarification of religion and its relationship to conflict. Firstly, it must be appreciated that it is not religion as such but specific fundamentalist constructions of religion that produces conflict like India Pakistan. Secondly, religious fundamentalism itself tends to transform religion into ideology. This is an assault on religion that can only be done well through re-mystification.
Religious conflicts are a product of misperception in our minds. Let us not create another cold war conflict based on them. No religion legitimizes conflict! His Excellency, Mohamed Khatami, Presedent of Iran, once complained in an inter-religious forum: “Dialogue amongst civilizations, particularly dialogue between Islam and Christianity is vital, essential and inevitable. Today, people speak of the global village. However, the problem is that residents of this global village are unable to understand each other. Isn’t it catastrophic that people of this village are deaf and dumb and worse than that, they have hostile thoughts toward each other”.

Christmas Candy Canes
You see them everywhere. They are in the stores, used as window displays, yard decorations, Christmas tree ornaments and even as candy. The traditional candy cane is red and white with plenty of holiday cheer added to the mix. Of all its uses, the candy cane is most popularly known as great tasting candy made in a variety of sizes. But, what lead to its creation? How was the candy cane invented? For those who don’t know, the legend of the candy cane is just as magical as any holiday tradition can be. For those who already know its meaning, the story is timeless and never seems to grow old.
According to history, a candymaker hoped to invent a candy that was a witness to Christ. He decided to use a hard candy that is shaped as we all know the candy cane to be today. The reason is because the shape of the candy cane, which is a ‘J,’ is for Jesus. Turned upside down, it also resembles a shepherd’s staff. The candymaker designed the candy cane white so that it would represent the purity of Christ. He then chose to add a red stripe, which symbolizes the blood that Christ shed for the sins of the world. The traditional flavor of a candy cane is peppermint, which is similar to hyssop that was used for purification and sacrifice according to the Old Testament.
Today, people all around the world recognize the candy cane as a traditional Christmas symbol. In order to preserve the true meaning of the holidays, some parents may decide to have a candy cane ornament engraved with their child’s name. Given at a young age, the candy cane bearing a child’s name will remain a prized symbol of tradition as that child grows into an adult. Speaking of holiday traditions, children will grow up to pass the same special gifts onto their own children.
Speaking of giving, one of the most popular uses of candy canes is gift-giving. Children often receive them at school and adults often fill candy tins with these striped symbols as a way to share in the spirit of the candy cane and the holidays. For those who live in an area where Santa Claus appears each year to visit with children and pose for photos at the local mall, it’s customary that he or one of his elves present a child with a candy cane. Today, a number of candy manufacturers produce candy canes and distribute them throughout practically every retailer in celebration of Christmas.
Not everyone realizes the rich history that a candy cane brings to the Christmas holiday. It’s much more than just a yard decoration, a sweet tasting candy or a pretty window seal. In fact, it’s a great deal more than any of those things. The legend of the candy cane dates back to a time that none of us were present for but, yet, all of these years later can still celebrate its true meaning and importance that coincides with the wonderful holiday of Christmas.
Rhema Therapy
The Words I Speak to You Are Spirit and Are Life (John 6:63)
The word Rhema comes from the ancient Greek word meaning “living, breathing word“.
It is distinguished from the written Word of God which is logos. The spoken Word of God is considered Rhema. Jesus said, “The Words I speak to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63)
Most of you are probably asking yourself, “What on earth is Rhema Therapy?”
Basically, it is a therapy based on words (no kidding).
You see, Words produce thoughts, and thoughts affect our actions and emotions, even our health.
Words are more powerful than you might imagine. Words can make us laugh, or words make us cry. There are even words that can bring on aggression. Have you ever heard the term, “those are fighting words”?
Yes, words are very powerful things. They are much more than just letters bunched together to help us communicate,
Words can affect your very life!!!!
Think of the word “Circus” for example. When you think the word, a picture automatically forms in your mind. Now think of the words below. What pictures are you creating in your mind? How do you feel? Put yourself in the picture and visualize yourself as confident etc.
Abundance
Achievement
Confidence
Creativity
Freedom
Grace
Guidance
Happiness
Harmony
Health
Honesty
Inspiration
Intelligence
Kindness
Life
Love
Memory
Peace
Persistence
Power
Purpose
Resourcefulness
Serenity
Strength
Success
Wisdom
Similarly, if you were to think of words that may make you think negatively you will get negative pictures in your mind. For example think of these words.
Anger
Deception
Pain
Adultery
Do you see how these negative words affect you? How do you feel right now? Go back now and go through the previous list so you can get your good feelings back again.
This little example illustrates that words do invoke thoughts and feelings. The three are so inter-related it is hard to differentiate which comes first, the word, the thought or the feeling. When we are feeling negative we must look to our subconscious mind and find out what happened just prior to our feeling negative. Were you thinking of words, someone may have said or that you read, or were there thoughts which caused the negative feeling. To remedy this simply change the thought and you will change your feelings.
Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28
So we see that just thinking is as if we are actually doing it in our mind. The mind cannot discriminate between imagination and reality. This is why it is so important to think positive thoughts. This is why Paul admonishes us to think right thoughts.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
The New Living Translation of the Bible says: A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. Proverbs 15:30
Be careful what you think about and what you hear, read and say. Words are not just a bunch of letters joined together to form a language. Words convey thoughts, images and feelings.
Matthew 12:
34 … How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good words from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil words from an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, that you must give an account on judgment day of every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say now reflect your fate then; either you will be justified by them or you will be condemned.”
1 Peter 3:10,11
For the one who wants to love life and to see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit, and he must turn away from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it,
Matthew 15:10-11
10 Then Jesus called to the crowds and said, “Listen to what I say and try to understand. 11 You are not defiled by what you eat; you are defiled by what you say and do.
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

You Bet Your Soul
When I was a small child this was the bedtime prayer I had to say: “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.” Needless to say, the first few times I said that one with my mother I had a few questions for her. Like: “Am I going to die? Is that why I have to say this creepy prayer?” And: “Can I please have another prayer to recite because I don’t like this one so much?” After those questions, I wondered aloud to her: “What is a soul?”
She told me. Your soul, my mother explained, is something that’s inside of you, but invisible and it is you and it leaves your body when you die. Probably that’s as good an explanation as any to give a small child. I couldn’t actually picture what a soul looked like so I envisioned it as sort of a translucent stadium horn, and for years that’s what I thought a soul was. Later on I decided that a soul was your exact replica, only inside you taking up just a little bit less space than your physical body – otherwise how could it fit inside of you?
Right? Makes sense doesn’t it?
Christianity isn’t the only religion that believes in a soul. Pretty much all of the major religions, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism also believe in a soul. They all disagree on what happens to your soul when you die. For example, in Christianity you can either go to Heaven or Hell, but for Hindus and Buddhists you got to come back. God, that’s got to suck. At least in Christianity and Islam you have a chance for eternal paradise, but with those other two you know you’re going to be right back where you started out from the first time. Nice.
Most of the time you only get one soul, but in some esoteric literature there are postulated to be five or six different spiritual bodies that you possess. I have no idea how that would work out. One soul inside of one body I can understand but six, one inside of another seems illogical. What would be better is one soul and many physical bodies at the same time. That way you could decide who you wanted to be on any particular day and take that body out for a spin, much like fabulously rich celebrities have multiple cars that they can use.
I don’t believe in a soul, exactly (since you’ve been wondering) but I go for what I call the quantum physics multidimensional multiverse version of having a soul. You see, our world actually has many more than the accepted four dimensions of classical physics, but instead exists in several dimensions and many other universes. Thus, we are multidimensional beings existing in all of those dimensions and therefore locality and serial time are merely illusions of our apparent four dimensions.
Sorry, that’s the best I can explain it. But it works out. Trust me.
Once when I was in college I was playing poker with some other college buddies, one of whom was an avowed atheist. We were playing penny ante, mostly just for fun. Of course, no one much had a lot of money so even the few dollars that changed hands was high stakes for us. The avowed atheist went bust and I offered to front him some money for the deed to his soul – fifty cents, I recall. Enough to get the atheist back in the game.
He refused and I absolutely couldn’t fathom that. Why wouldn’t he want four free bits? Obviously he wasn’t a very good atheist because that should have been an offer that he should have jumped at, but for some reason he wouldn’t. All I was asking for was a deed to something that he told us he thought was entirely imaginary. I’d bet if I asked him for the deed to the Easter Bunny he would have bit, but not this. He had no courage of his convictions, which disappointed me.
Many years later it occurred to me that maybe the reason he wouldn’t put up the deed to his soul was because he’d gambled it away previously. Come to think about it, I should look on e-bay to see if that’s what happened and it’s still up for sale. It would probably bring in a lot more than the fifty cents I offered.
By the way, has anybody ever put their soul up for sale on e-bay? If not, I freely give that idea to anyone who wants to, since I’m way too superstitious to do it myself. As a matter of fact, I think I’ll check e-bay to see if it’s possible to buy a soul and how much they go for. Maybe I’ll even get one for myself.
I’ll bet it looks like a stadium horn.
Tension between the Mystical and the Theological
For Christians spirituality is often reflected in our one-on-one relationship with God. The comfort that comes with just being with God, listening to Him (Her or It) and following those revealed teachings. As Sister Bridget Clare McKeever, PhD, OSS, an instructor of Spiritual Directors, said,
Of course, belonging to a traditional religious denomination means also the risk of becoming stagnated, if the religion is somewhat rigid. So, I think, there needs to be a mature self-differentiated belonging. It can act as a corrective.
A person’s spirituality is also helpful to a religious denomination, because it can bring balance. Formal religion systemically has a tendency to become quite conservative, that is, to emphasize the stable. That’s just the nature of any organization. It’s a necessary ingredient, but it is very much helped by the counterpoint of the spirituality of individuals in the group, which is freer, less systematic and more systemic. In the Catholic church, for instance, religious orders and communities have represented the spirituality side, the mystical side; whereas the church, the established hierarchical church has represented the stable side. And there is an inevitable tension between these two. [Spiritual Maturity, Gratitude Press]
It is not just the Catholic church that exhibits tension between the theological and the mystical side. Most church hierarchies distrust the spiritual element, believing that the way to maintain order is to maintain doctrinal purity, and they often define spirituality as “the following of the beliefs of the church.” In John 5, Jesus says, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”[John 5:39-40] That statement is as true today as it was over 2000 years ago. However, what is meant by “come to me” is an issue. Some believe that to accept Jesus as their personal savior is coming to him and brings salvation when it is followed by adherence to a particular set of precepts. Others have a more fluid, less doctrinal, connection with Jesus and are nourished by and grow in an intimate one-on-one relationship with him. The first behavior is based on beliefs, the other on experience. Where do you stand in this matter? Or do you meld the two?
Spirituality is more dynamic than theology. It’s about relationship with ourselves, with the divine and with life. A spiritual person may or may not belong to a religion. According to the 1990 American Religious Identification Survey, there were 14 million people in the United States who identified themselves as not belonging to a specific religion in 1990. In 2001 that figure was 29 million, making it the fastest growing and the third largest category behind Catholics and Baptists. [Deseret Morning News, 12/1/03,B1,2] As well as a myriad of other suppositions, you might surmise from this statistic that people have picked up a lot of dissatisfaction, or psychic clutter, through interactions with organized religion, and rather than having a vehicle available to deal with their clutter, have simply chosen to leave the church. As Sister Bridget Clare says above, “there needs to be a mature self-differentiated belonging.” Yet many of us are neither mature nor self-differentiated. It is our clutter, not the churches,’ that may drive us away. Some of the clutter may be based on the most innocuous comment by an untrained Sunday School teacher whom we had endowed with a position of authority. Some may be based on our youthful thought processes. Both of these possibilities are evidenced in this example from my life:
As an eighth grader, I was in a Sunday School class in which the teacher had written on the board a list of the steps to fornication. It began with hand-holding, followed by kissing. What I understood him to say was that if we got on that list, in any place, we would naturally travel to the top. “Oh, my gosh!“ I had already held hands and had been kissed at a party when playing spin the bottle. “I’m doomed,” I thought. “I’m doomed to spend eternity in hell.” Religion was pretty black and white in my thinking at that age, and in my interpretation I was given no alternative, such as confession or repentance, if I was already on the way to hell. I felt that I was doomed to fornicate and be punished.
Oh, the pain that accumulated clutter produces!

Two Thousand Years Later
Following the release of the film: The Passion Of The Christ, we should take this opportunity to remember what it was that Jesus Christ may have died for. Perhaps we can re-think and re-learn the message He had been trying to tell us two thousand years ago.
The Passion of The Christ has caused a lot of discussions. Some people accuse the film to be anti-Semitic or that it has the potential to incite hatred and violence towards Jews. Other people object mainly to Mel Gibson’s gruesome depiction of Jesus Christ’s last 12 hours on earth in his latest film: The Passion Of The Christ. Though these are of importance, we should not allow Christ’s main message to drown and be set aside in favor of our discussions of religion, politics, film-comparisons, film-critiques and censorship. We should take this opportunity to remember what it was that Jesus Christ died for. Perhaps we can re-think and re-learn the message He may have been trying to tell us two thousand years ago.
I would have preferred this paper to discuss only the main teaching of Christ and how it relates to us today; however I feel that I should address the two most popular discussions regarding the film before I can continue on. Was it anti-Semitic? I don’t believe the film was anti-Semitic. The Jews had to make a decision then and they did it no differently to how we, as a society, conduct our affairs today. In the latter part of this document, I argue that there is no reason for non-Jews to blame the Jews for what had happened. Was the gore and violence of the film appropriate? Yes. I think that the gore and violence of the film was important in illustrating the sacrifice that Jesus had to make, and was willing to take, so that we would understand what he had been trying to tell us all along. The pain and suffering he had endured shows the amount of strength that is required to love – completely and truly.
Regardless of what your religious beliefs are, or whether you have a religion or not, let me first ask you to assume, just for this paper, to forget religion. Forget the notion that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. Forget the notion that he was sent here by a Divine Power. Let us just assume that he was a mortal man, made of flesh and blood, just like you and me. He saw the world differently however. He interpreted information, his experiences and his emotions differently to how most of us process our internal and external environments. As a result, he gained immense wisdom and knowledge beyond the comprehension of most of us. He tried to tell us something. He tried to share with us what he knew.
The main teachings of Jesus Christ revolve around the core idea of LOVE. Love everything. Love everybody. Even your enemies! If they hit you on one cheek, turn the other cheek. Like Buddha’s message: Do NOT do unto others what you would NOT like others do unto you. Be compassionate towards all beings. That was what they taught: LOVE.
He believed that it is the only philosophy that will allow us all to achieve harmony and happiness in our universe and in our lives. No amount of hate should be allowed every day and in every way that we conduct ourselves. No matter what happens, we must not hate or wish malicious thoughts towards anything or anybody.
To spread that message, he spoke about it when he could, where he could. People flocked to the mountains and in the temples where he preached. A lot of his ideas fascinated people. They were new, bizarre and sometimes his ideas went against basic human instincts and the prevailing beliefs that people had at the time. He was a leader, like a shepherd guiding his herd of sheep. He led with utmost integrity.
We have had a lot of leaders in the past, now and we will continue to follow them in the future. They tell us one thing but they do not have the strength and courage it takes to refuse to do another. They contradict themselves and their ideals.
Is it only our leaders, celebrities and other prominent members of our society – whom we read about in the papers – who are at fault? No. Their faults are our faults. How is that? Because we still believe that it is OK to hate or express negative emotions towards others whom we feel have done us wrong or will do us wrong. We, as people, still exhibit little signs of compassion, consideration, thoughtfulness and understanding towards other people and other beings.
We experience negative emotions towards other people when they mock us, when they ridicule us, when they bully us, when they humiliate us, when they deny us justice or fairness, when they torture us, when they kill or threaten to kill our loved ones, or when they deny us anything else that we consider to be our ‘human rights’.
“Of course”, we say. “That’s natural!”
That is exactly my point! Jesus Christ had to endure all that and yet he had gone through his last twelve hours without displaying any signs of anger, hatred, disappointment, greed or fear. In fact, during his crucifixion, he still asked that his enemies be forgiven for they knew not what they were doing. Who among us has the courage, strength and wisdom to be able to accept our predicaments like that?
Jesus Christ has shown us that we must love even our enemies, be wise enough to increase our capacity to understand and show compassion towards all beings…regardless of what happens.
The Jews at the time had to make a decision: to kill Jesus or not. What would have been the right thing for them to do? They did not know. If you were a common person in the streets of Jerusalem at that time and you were asked what you would like to happen to Jesus, what would you have said? For a lot of people, the information they had of Jesus Christ was very sketchy. He was whispered to be The Messiah. He had many controversial ideas but he seemed very wise and he had helped ease the misery of a lot of people. At the same time, Jesus was also accused of being a liar, a madman, a witch and a blasphemer. He had made Lazarus come back to life, walked on water and he had turned water into wine. Would you have believed those miracles? If they were not true, why would people have made them up? If they were true then definitely, Jesus was no ordinary man. And if he had powers like that, what else was he capable of doing? What if he was the Devil in disguise? Maybe it was right that he be killed while his threat could still be subdued. There were so many people chanting for his death. Surely their reasoning would not have been baseless.
It was not an easy decision for any person or any group of people to make. Even Pontius Pilate who was in a position to have all the information in the land to make a decision, was torn what to do with Jesus. Pilate was like the President of the United States, with all the advisers, intelligence agencies and reporters at his disposal. Yet, he did not know what he was supposed to do.
The decision came to pass to crucify Jesus. The High Priests were threatened of him. Pontius Pilate weighed his decision and allowed the people to make the choice for him. Those who were most vocal and more aggressive in their belief that Jesus Christ ought to die, got their way that day. There may have been people who probably felt strongly against it but they were not willing or able to do anything to stop it. Others were not there probably because they allowed themselves to be in a position where they knew too little information to have an opinion at a time when it was crucial that they did. Sadly, many may not just have cared.
Think of all current issues we face. There are some of us who choose FOR or AGAINST a motion. Others do not choose, however, by not choosing, they have also made a choice. As one global voice, we are all divided in our opinions towards most of these issues. And only with hindsight, can we truly assess the impact of the choices we have made. It is the same dilemma that the Jews faced then.
Should we look outside ourselves to see whom we can blame for the killing of Jesus? No. The Jews killed Jesus, a fellow Jew, but how different are we when we kill or hurt our own? How different are we when we allow others to suffer because it was not our problem or because we did not yet know enough about the problem?
Added with our inability to be wiser than we are to accept and feel compassion towards all beings, it was our ‘human nature’ to hate and inflict pain and suffering on others that crucified Jesus Christ. That ‘human nature’ still remains unchanged even after two thousand years. What Jerusalem was then is what the world is now. And it will be that way forever…until we change.

Who is Your Psychic Mentor?
Psychic mentors are those people in society that feel the need to minister to others. These are our leaders and those that take charge of things in the spirit world. There is a movie out called “the secret”. In the movie, the actors describe success as having to do with asking for it in prayer or to the universe and believing that it will happen.
In the ancient days, prophets and pastors were used for guidance to kings and leaders. Today, we still find these leaders influential. I call them the people that work behind the scenes. These teachers may not be rich. They may simply be someone that loves to help others and they are good at what they teach. These masters shape the minds of society and may even be found in secret societies.
Psychics have been known to give guidance and there are top ones that I can name. I am going to allow you to discover who these people are because I believe that true psychic masters draw believers to them.
I encourage you to look for your psychic mentor in this lifetime because we all need them to succeed. The psychic mentor must be prayed into your life. Begin today by asking God to send you someone who can lead you. Jesus Christ is the answer to all things and I do believe that he is our soul guide. However, we as humans also need someone who can give us the physical touch.
What Gift Will You Give This Christmas?
Now that the hustle and bustle of Christmas is around us, this may be a good time to sit back, relax, and contemplate what would be the best gift that we could give this Christmas.
We are often told that wisdom is passed down through the ages, so I would like to take you on a little journey back to the time of the Magi and see what truths we can glean from their wanderings.
Follow me, if you will to the Book of Matthew, Chapter 2, verses 1-12. (I will place the text here so that you can refer to it as needed: Taken from the King James Version)
NOW when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem lace with him.
4. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6. And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judea, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
12. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
What are some lessons that can be gleaned from the previous passage: Well, to start, we notice that it was the light which drew the Magi to Christ.
The Bible tells us in Mt.5:14-16 that Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
This is exactly what happened with the Magi; They saw the light and it was that light which drew them to Christ. Is your light shining brightly? Are others being drawn to Christ through you?
It was this light, which caused them to search:
The Wise men could have stayed where they were, but they knew that they would find God ONLY IF they followed the light.
God Promises us in Jeremiah 29:13,14a
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14. And I will be found of you, saith the Lord:…
And what did they do when they found Him? They Worshipped Him!
The word worship, comes from the Greek word PROSKOONEH’O. It means: To Adore- To Fall Down Before God in Awe.
An Example of this type of worship can be found in Revelation 4:10-11
The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Worship is not just saying, “I Love you Lord” with your mouth, but with your whole being. Ezekiel 33:31 tells us …With their mouths they show much love but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
Many at Christmas say “I Love You Lord” but in their heart they are more concerned with what to buy so and so.
At Christmas We Can Get More Caught Up With Christmas Presents Rather Than His Presence!
We must be careful not to get caught up with the tradition of Christmas and forget to truly worship Him of whom Christmas is all about.
And Lastly: They opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. These were COSTLY gifts!
We think nothing of spending money for an extra special gift for someone we love. We will diligently seek for just that perfect gift.
The Question Is,
WHAT GIFT HAVE YOU FOUND FOR JESUS?
He is the one who loves you so much, He was willing to die for You. John 15:13 says, Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends
Now Please take note: I am not saying that Christ Expects you to kill yourselves for Him! What he does want is your life, but in the sense of a life that is dedicated to Him. It is a matter of giving up your way of thinking and doing things and taking on His ways, by learning of Him and acting the way He would have you to act.
While we think of our families and the gifts we will give them, let us not forget about Christ and what gift is the most fitting for Him.
Matthew 10:37-39 tells us,
Any one who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me, and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
ARE WE WILLING TO SPEND THAT MUCH?
IT IS COSTLY!
BUT WHAT A PERFECT GIFT TO GIVE HIM
Let us give our lives to Christ this Christmas and live our lives all year through in fellowship with Him.
“O COME LET US ADORE HIM, CHRIST, THE LORD”

Why 666 is Cause for Celebration
For over 2000 years people have been programmed WRONGLY to respond with fear to the number (and date) of 666. The truth is there is cause for celebration.
It all started with a crazy man named John using kabalistic writings to cloak the name of the roman emperor as “The Mark of The Beast” and ever since those who did not have the freedom to look deeper chose to fear the number 666.
In doing so they have wasted their emotions and energy and created the belief that a number had more power than they did.
Numbers are arbitrary. Why choose fear when you can choose freedom?
Here are a few examples of how to choose 666 (and the date June 6th 2006) as a very positive and special day.
* Come on, guys. These are just NUMBERS! In voodoo if you want to scare someone you write 222 as your number. Why aren’t you afraid of 222?
* The date only comes around once in a while, June 6th 1966, June 6th 2006. But it’s been around before and we’ve survived just fine.
* If you know how people will respond to 666 then why not exploit it? Let’s have FUN on June 6ht 2006! Welcome it!
* Occultist Alester Crowley, used 666 as his “number” to get a huge amount of recognition as an author. The controversy made him interesting. He even called himself “The Beast” to add to his fame. It worked magic!
* Use 666 as a great marketing tool. The movie The Omen is coming out on 6.6.06 and they are playing the 666 idea like a violin. They know how to use it and have fun and make money.
Because most people fear 666 does not mean they have to fear it.
Think of it as an inside joke that only you, and a few other smart people, get. That way anytime you see it or hear it you’ll remember this article and get a good laugh.
You can also get more laughs by thinking of what other words people respond to with a knee jerk reaction, like “cults”, “brainwashing” and “mind control”.
Notice how YOU respond when you hear those words.
Stay tuned for all the special media coverage that will happen around 666. You’ll be amazed.
In fact on 6.6.06 www.MindControl101.com will have a special announcement ON THAT DAY ONLY for people interested in the topic of MIND CONTROL.

How Mary Magdalene Became An Evangelist to the Apostles
For most of her days and nights, Mary Magdalene’s life had been a mess!
Many today believe she was a prostitute, but we don’t know that for sure. However, if she was alive today, she might be a resident of a mental institution. The reason I think that is because the Gospels record she was inhabited by seven demons.
Mary Magdalene could also have been deeply depressed. And people in her condition today would probably be alcoholics or addicted to drugs. She may have been suicidal as well. Mary had no hope for a bright future and was probably deeply ashamed of the way she was living. Trapped in a sinister lifestyle, she couldn’t rise above what she had become — a deeply troubled woman rejected by most people.
But then everything changed instantly! She met Jesus one day and He did not reject her like almost everyone else did! In fact, He welcomed her and gave her the best gift of all — the gift of a brand-new life. She found — to her great joy — that she had peace of mind instead of tormenting thoughts! The degrading passions that drove her unmercifully were replaced by a deep self-sacrificing love for other people and especially for Jesus! What a transformation!
When Jesus gave her a brand-new life, He probably gave her a number of true friends as well — including some other loving women. They along with Mary Magdalene ministered to Jesus and His friends out of their own funds.
Soon personal tragedy overwhelmed her! Jesus — her Savior and Leader — was arrested, convicted and nailed to a Roman cross beside two criminals.
Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, two wealthy and highly respected Jewish leaders, exposed themselves to public ridicule by giving Jesus an honorable burial in Joseph’s own new tomb. Crucified criminals were often thrown into a common burial pit. These two men tenderly took Jesus down from the cross and carried His body to the cave tomb. They wrapped His corpse around and around with yards of expensive linen material saturated with ointments and sweet-smelling spices. The ointment acted as a kind of glue which transformed the long cloth into a cocoon. Then they laid Him in the tomb and rolled a large stone over the entrance.
Mary Magdalene and at least one of her friends watched while Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus entombed Jesus in the cave that afternoon after His crucifixion.
Mary and her friends went home and rested when the sun went down that day in order to kept the Sabbath that began at sundown, so they didn’t have time to anoint Jesus’s body themselves.
However, early the next morning while the sun was just rising, Mary Magdalene and her friends brought sweet spices to add their spices to Jesus’s burial wrappings. While they journeyed to the cave, they questioned among themselves who would roll the stone away since it was too heavy for them.
Imagine how astonished they were when they arrived at the cave to discover the huge stone had already been moved! You see, there had been a great earthquake accompanied by the coming of an angel who rolled the stone away and then sat on it. When the guards saw this glistening being shining like lightning, they collapsed on the ground in a dead faint!
Mary did not realize that an angel had come because she didn’t see him when she arrived at the cave and only knew that the stone had been rolled away. Deeply disturbed, she discovered the body of her Lord was gone.
Mary Magdalene quickly found Simon Peter, who had betrayed the Lord, and John. She broken-heartedly announced, “They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher and we don’t know where they have taken Him!”
Immediately Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see what had happened while Mary followed at a distance.
Since John was younger, he outran Peter and arrived at the tomb first. John didn’t go into the tomb, but Peter did. A wondrous sight awaited their gaze! The linen wrappings wound so tightly around Jesus’s body were still on the shelf where His body had been, but the long burial cloth had collapsed without being unwound. And the napkin covering Jesus’s face was in a separate place by itself where his head had been. Most amazing of all, Jesus’s body was no longer in the mummy cocoon. No one had unwrapped the glued together layers of cloth! The resurrected body of Jesus had simply passed right on through the burial shroud!
When John observed the collapsed mummy cocoon, he believed Jesus had risen from the dead from the evidence right before his eyes!
Peter and John left the cave, but Mary Magdalene stayed behind. She was deeply grieved since she still thought Jesus’s body had been taken away.
However, her grief soon turn to ecstatic joy when not long afterwards she was visited by Jesus Himself!
This is how she met the risen Lord face to face.
First — as she turned to go home, she noticed a man standing in the garden near the empty tomb who she assumed was the gardener.
Try to put yourself in her place and imagine the glorious thrill that came to her heart when Jesus gently called her by her own name — “Mary!”
It was then that she recognized her risen Lord!
Jesus gave to Mary the awesome commission of telling His disciples this earth-shaking news — He is alive forever!
And that is how Mary Magdalene became an evangelist to the apostles.

How To Tell If You May Be Suffering From Depression
Depression is an ugly, sometimes emotionally crippling illness that if untreated can become, worse over time. It affects not only the person suffering, but also friends and family and can take a toll on other relationships and responsibilities, including employment.
Many people suffer from depression, but have no idea that’s what their problem is. Here is a short list of symptoms that could be signs of depression. Keep in mind that more than one of these may or may not be present in order for you to be diagnosed as having depression. Also there are different types of depressive disorders and it would be difficult to state that you have any one type withought being diagnosed by a physician, however, you can get a good idea of the types of symptoms to look out for by reading these tips so that you are aware of them. These symptoms need to last at least two weeks in order to be considered depressive.
#1,You’re Having Trouble Concentrating
This can affect a student trying to get their homework done, to a person reading a book or newspaper. It seems as if you’re reading the same paragraph over and over, but, for some reason it’s just not sinking in. This can be extremely frustrating and disheartening. Additional signs could be grades dropping at school or work performace slipping. Keep your eyes open for these signs.
#2.Feeling Fatigued
You feel tired all of the time. You may be getting plenty of rest, but you just feel “full body” tired. This is from head to toe. You may also experience a lot of different aches and pains that you never noticed before. These can include bachache, headache, pain in your joints and even constipation or diarrhea. You may also be irritable, sensitive or even have angry outbursts. sometimes for little or know good reason. You just don’t feel well and are letting everyone around you know.
#3.Problems Sleeping
This could be considered as part of “feeling fatigued”, but insomnia itself is a seperate symptom and must be treated as such. In the above example, a person could feel fatigued while getting plenty of rest. Insomnia however, means that you’re not getting sufficient sleep and this will begin to affect you simmilarly. Sometimes doctors must prescribe different medications for insomnia, anxiety, depression, ect in order to treat each individual symptom. Also, insomniacs can have nervous habits such as nail biting, playing with or opulling their hair, picking at their skin, pacing, unable to sit still for very long, seem “wound up” and more.
Note:some of these symptoms are also common with meth use. If you know someone exhibiting these symptoms, a friend or family member, then you need to keep a close eye on them.
#4.Weight Loss Or Weight Gain
A change of eating habits is also a potential sign if depression. Someone that has lost or gained a signicant amount of weight over a thirty day period may be suffering from a depressive disorder. A significant amount being ten pounds or more either way.
There are more signs and symptoms that you can research, but these are some of the more common ones. Keep in mind that there are more than one type of this illness and just because you don’t see all of your symptoms here does not mean that you don’t potentially have a problem that needs to be dealt with. If you think that you may be suffering from depression or have any of the above symptoms for two or more weeks, then please take the time to see your doctor and get the proper diagnosis and treatment.

Finding Daily Inspiration in Difficult Times
Daily inspiration helps us to stay focused on God’s love, no matter what else is going on in our daily lives. In today’s world there is such a high level of challenge and rapid change happening for most of us, that it has become even more important to find a way to stay connected with our hearts, and with our inner connection with spirit.
There are many ways we can tap into our inner connection with God and spirit; however it is not always simple to do so. The demands of daily life can be compelling, and can cause us to forget our connection to spirit. A regular spiritual practice of meditation or prayer can be very helpful in focusing thought, energy and intention towards God. Even five or ten minutes a day can have a significant beneficial impact on the entire day.
Why Daily Inspiration is so Important Now
The process of spiritual transformation involves the release of everything within us that has been out of balance and out of harmony with God’s love. This process is happening individually and for humanity as a whole at this time. The problems manifesting in our world are an expression of this imbalance, and are being manifest now in order to be transformed.
At this time on the Earth there is a great deal of negative energy surfacing and releasing into the atmosphere of the planet. This is related to the process of global purification that is happening as humanity’s consciousness evolves towards greater connection with spirit, and as the presence of God’s light strengthens on the Earth. The spiritual awakening that is beginning to happen for humanity is illuminating within all of us everything that has been kept separated from God’s love.
These energies that are releasing through the process of purification affect all of us, especially sensitive souls who are attuned to the spiritual levels of reality. Staying connected to a source of spiritual nourishment and inspiration each day helps us to avoid getting immersed in the negative energies that are present, and helps us to feel nourished and sustained during difficult times.
Some people feel these negative energies physically or in their consciousness, some people feel this energy at night in their dreams. Many people now are feeling these energies emotionally, and are not aware that what they are feeling is related to much a larger process than their own individual emotional challenges.
Our individual spiritual healing journey is connected with the larger journey of transformation that is happening for all of humanity. It is not always possible to discern what energy is our own personal healing, and what is related to the larger collective healing process of humanity.
When you become aware of difficult emotions or energies, there are three things that can help to move these out of your body and consciousness.
1. Be aware of what you are feeling at any given moment.
2. Release any judgment or fear associated with the emotions or energies you are experiencing
3. Ask God to transform and transmute the energies and emotions.
During the process of purification it is essential to stay connected with God, with daily inspiration, and with others of like mind and like heart who can share the journey with us and help to strengthen our love and faith. It is not easy to overcome old habits that created unconsciousness and a disconnection from our hearts. Support is needed, and daily spiritual practice and inspiration are the nourishment which sustains us.
Your willingness and commitment to stay connected with God’s love brings many rewards such as greater inner peace, more equanimity during times of challenge, and growing sense of confidence in your ability to feel God’s love. You are also helping the Earth and other people around you, because we are all connected. When you are radiating love and light, and focusing your attention on God’s love, then your presence has a beneficial impact on those around you.
In reaching out to God each day, focusing our hearts on receiving more of God’s love, we are able find a pathway through the challenges of life today. Even during times of difficulty, a new doorway begins to open, towards a new possibility for ourselves and for humanity.
How Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus Risked All to Give Jesus An Honorable Burial
As a crucified criminal in the eyes of the Law, what kind of burial do you suppose Jesus of Nazareth would normally have received?
His body would probably have been thrown into a common grave set apart for criminals. It would be risky to ask for the body of a crucified criminal so that the deceased could be given a proper burial. For anyone to obtain such a corpse, permission would have to be granted by the proper authorities, but it could be dangerous to ask for that permission.
Two influential Jewish leaders were willing to take that risk. One of these men was the wealthy and honorable Joseph of Arimathea. He had not agreed with the other religious leaders to put Jesus to death. After Jesus died on the cross, Joseph courageously approached Governor Pilate and begged that Jesus’ body be given to him. Pilate granted his request.
There was another secret disciple who risked his reputation that afternoon. His name was Nicodemus. Once one night, before this sorrowful day, he had privately interviewed Jesus under cover of darkness — perhaps for fear of being observed.
Joseph of Arimathea owned a new tomb he probably planned to use himself. That is where he and Nicodemus placed the body of Jesus. Nicodemus brought a mixture of about 100 pounds of expensive myrrh and aloes to use to prepare Jesus’ body for burial. Myrrh is a type of gum resin that acts as a kind of glue. Aloes is a sweet-smelling oil used for medicinal purposes, as a fragrance, and to use to bury the dead.
The two men worked together spreading this mixture between the encircling layers of a long linen cloth purchased by Joseph. They wrapped the fabric around and around His body until it was completely sealed with the fabric cocoon and perfumed resin. They also wrapped an additional cloth around his head. After they were satisfied they had properly prepared Jesus’ body for burial, Joseph rolled a large stone over the cave’s opening.
These men publicly declared they were Jesus’ friends! Their last act of love for Him is recorded in the Gospels. They both risked their reputations and more to give their Friend a proper burial.
Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus could not have known at the time that they were participating in the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy from the book of Isaiah. Here is the Scripture telling about the Messiah written over 600 hundred years before Jesus’ crucifixion:
“But he was struck down
for the rebellion of my people.
He had done no wrong
and had never deceived anyone.
But he was buried like a criminal;
he was put in a rich man’s grave.” (Isaiah 53:8b-9, NLT).
To their great joy, Jesus did not remain in Joseph’s tomb for long! He rose from the dead three days later and is alive forever!
Today too it’s risky standing up for Jesus, but His true friends are willing to pay the price through God’s grace.
And they will never be sorry!

Contracts – Understanding Why Stuff Happens
We live in a world of choices. In fact, this life is all about the choices we make. So why does so much appear to “happen” to us that would seem to be out of our control? How do we get so caught up in the illusion of victim mentality?
The reason is that we don’t understand fully the concept of contracts. Contracts are those agreements that we made with other souls prior to incarnating, agreements to assist each other in personal, spiritual and emotional growth while on the “Planet of Free Will”. Without this understanding, it’s easy to fall into the trap of not taking responsibility for what we have created (everything in our reality) and blaming others for causing the chaos in our lives.
There are several categories of contracts. First are the Soul Contracts. These are the agreements to assist each other in mastering our primary life lessons. It must take a great deal of love for an individual soul to agree to do things like abandoning us so that we can learn to heal from the fear of separation. Or how about refusing to love us for who we are so that we remember who that is and stand in our own power. Why this becomes so confusing for us mortals is that Soul Contracts are choices that we made before we came into these bodies, and the memories of them are hidden while we are here.
Once we fulfill our contract, everything else in a relationship is up to our conscious choice. We are free to operate in relationship with that soul to the extent we choose, or move on. If we look at a soul contract to teach another about love, for example, that may have meant that we were supposed to be in relationship with that person only long enough for them to “get” the lesson of unconditional love. Too often, however, that lesson leads to marriage and staying in a relationship past the time the lesson was learned because of a social code which dictates that to be the acceptable thing to do.
Recently, a client came to me whose mother had abandoned her at the hospital at birth. She had spent her entire life hating her, because she didn’t understand that the contract between the two of them was to bring her soul in – NOTHING MORE! Once she was able to see this, she was able to forgive her birth mother for the first time, and subsequently she was able to get on with her life. Another category of contract is the Alternate Plan.
Suppose that you chose Mary to be your mother so that you could learn the life lesson of Trust, and you chose Sam to be your father so that you could learn to master communication. What if Sam was killed in a war before the two of them could meet. You would have to find another biological father with the same issues around communication or forgo the incarnation. There are a lot of “Plan B” contracts in our lives due to situations just like this. A third type of contract is the Serendipity contract. These are additional lessons we want to master in an incarnation. They are like elective courses we can take while we are here, and we enlist loving souls to engage with us if we happen to “bump” onto them along the way. An example of this is that I might have contracted with Janet to teach me emotional communication if I happened to run into her. Then when my marriage failed, I could be led to her to be my therapist. If I never encountered her, I might find another soul buddy to help me with the same lesson, or I might skip that lesson totally because the “set ups” that would have precipitated the need for it never occurred.
There are no accidents. Everything does indeed happen for a reason, just not necessarily for the one we might have thought. Once the concept of contracts is understood, it then becomes easy to break free from the illusion of victim mentality. There are no victims. We alternate roles in this game all the time. One minute we are feeling persecuted and look around for a rescuer. Next we are abusing our power with another who then thinks we are victimizing them. It’s a vicious circle that takes us out of living in the present moment and into a cycle of fear and control.
From this space, it is impossible to create the reality we desire, because we are not operating from our place of personal power – we’ve given our power away to someone or something outside of ourselves. The solution then is to surrender to our higher self in gratitude and bless the person who lovingly contracted with us to assist us to heal a part of our self. Then and only then can we live in the reality we desire and deserve!
Greece Sailing Vacations
The mythological and historical significance of Greece provides a distinct charm to Greek sailing vacations. One can visit the ancient islands in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea. There are the groups of islands such as the Dodecanese, the Cyclades and the Sporades, all brimming with old-world charm. Sailors can also cruise along the coasts of Crete and Turkey. The Greek coast is famed for its clear blue waters, clear sky, the enchanting Mediterranean climate and rare sights of whales, porpoises and friendly dolphins.
There are many options to sail on the coastline of Greece. You can hire a bareboat. Bareboats provide great privacy, but you will have to do the navigating and the rowing yourself. If you are not very confident of yourself, then you can hire a skipper, who is a hired captain to guide you through the waters. Flotillas are also available, in which several boats follow one leading ship. But flotillas follow a set itinerary and that could get boring at times. People who go sailing along the Greek coasts can also hire their traditional boats – the gulets and the caiques. These are small wooden craft that accommodate a less number of people. Yachts and catamarans are also available for bigger groups.
Greek islands lie in the Ionian and the Aegean seas. Corfu and Lefkas in the Ionian Sea are favorites among sailors. There is also the historically famous Ithaca, the island of Ulysses. The islands in the Aegean Sea are divided into the Cyclades, Dodecanese and the Sporades. Cyclade islands such as Kea, Mykanos and Santorini are specially known for the red sun in the blue sky during sunset due to the presence of a volcano. Dodecanese islands boast of Patmos, where St. John wrote about the Apocalypse nine centuries ago. Sailing in the Greek seas is a unique experience that is enveloped both in myth and beauty.
Daytimes are spent sailing in the open seas and exploring the beautiful islands. During nighttimes, there are several island resorts to welcome sailors. One can visit their taverns, with local wine and dance.
A Greek sailing vacation is not as expensive as in some other locations. The peak season begins from March and continues up to November. Even after that, there are sailors plying their boats along the Aegean and the Ionian.
Introducing Islam
Islam
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Indeed, one out of every five persons on this earth is a Muslim. There are nearly 6 million Muslims living in North America and the number is growing. Yet, unfortunately, Islam is also the most misunderstood religion. Muslims live in different parts of the world ranging from China to Argentina, Russia to South Africa. The country with the largest Muslim population is Indonesia.
Islam means the active submission to the one God. It is strictly a monotheistic religion since it restricts worship to the one supreme Lord who is the Originator and Creator of the universe. Peace (the root from which the word Islam is derived) is attained through complete obedience to the commandments of God, for God is the source of all peace.
Muslims are those who believe in one God and in Muhammad as the final Prophet of God. They devote their lives to the service of God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
Islam teaches that God (called Allah in Arabic) is the source of all creation and that human beings are the best of His creation. He communicates by inspiring them towards goodness and by sending Prophets who deliver God’s message. Muslims believe that the first Prophet was Adam followed by a long chain of Prophets to guide humanity. The Qur’an, according to Muslim belief, is the word of God revealed to Prophet Muhammad. It mentions many other Prophets like Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Moses, Jacob, Joseph and Jesus. All the Prophets had brought the same message, i.e., belief in one God, upright human conduct and belief in the accountability of human acts at the end of time.
Jesus in Islam
Muslims respect and venerate Jesus Christ. They consider him to be one of God’s greatest messengers to humankind. The Qur’an re-affirms his miraculous birth and his miraculous abilities. Furthermore, his mother Mary is regarded as one of the most pure and exalted women of all creation. As the Qur’an says:
“Behold! the angel said: ‘God has chosen you and purified you and has chosen you above the women of all nations. O Mary! God gives you the good news of a word from Him, whose name shall be Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the hereafter, and one of those brought near to God” (3:42).
Islam regards its teachings to be a re-affirmation and culmination of the teachings of previous monotheistic religions like Judaism and Christianity. Hence, all Muslims believe in Moses and Jesus as Prophets of God. Prophet Muhammad was commanded to recite in the Qur’an:
“Say, we believe in God
and that which was revealed unto us,
and that which was revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael
and Isaac and Jacob, and the tribes
and that which was entrusted unto Moses and Jesus
and the Prophets from their Lord
We make no distinction between any of them
and unto Him we have submitted” (3:84).
Islam is the final religion revealed to human beings through the last Prophet who was called Muhammad. He was born in Mecca (in Saudi Arabia) in the year 570 A.D. Muhammad was a very truthful and honest person. He was also very pious and detested the moral decadence of his society. At the age of forty, God asked him, through the angel Gabriel, to proclaim the religion of Islam publicly. God’s message to humanity was delivered in the Qur’an which was revealed to Muhammad. The Qur’an, which is the holy book for Muslims, contains 114 chapters (called Suras). Muslims believe that it is the pure word of God, unadulterated over 14 centuries. It deals with issues which affect human beings in their earthly lives; issues like piety, upright human conduct, worship, the creation of a just and virtuous society and the practice of ethics.
Islam has two major schools of thought – the Shi’i and the Sunni. The Sunnis believe that the community selected its own leader after Prophet Muhammad’s death whereas the Shi’as believe that the Prophet had, by divine will, appointed ‘Ali to be his successor. Leadership is thus divinely designated. It is to be noted that both the Sunnis and the Shi’as are united in their major beliefs i.e., they believe in the same God, the same book, the same Prophets and pray in the same direction. The differences are mainly theological and jurisprudential.
The Teachings of Islam
Islam teaches that human beings are born pure and sinless. No one is responsible for or can take the responsibility of the sins of others. However, the doors of forgiveness are always open for those who repent sincerely. God continuously reminds us in the Qur’an of His infinite mercy and compassion. Muslims are enjoined to maintain inner spiritual purity through constant remembrance and prayer to God. Islam balances the spiritual dimension by emphasizing human responsibility. Human beings are created with a purpose. Attainment of piety is but one dimension of such purpose; playing an active role in the creation of a just society is another. Because Muslims attach importance to what happens in this world, they have made substantial contribution to the development of science, medicine, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography and literature. Muslims like Avicenna and Avirroes have played major roles in the advancement of science in the west. The first university in the world was established by Muslims in Cairo, Egypt. Many crucial systems such as the Arabic numerals, algebra, the first map of the globe and navigational maps were developed by Muslims and adopted by the medieval Europeans.
Apart from human responsibility, Islam also teaches human accountability. The final destination of human beings is the hereafter. Muslims believe that, at the end of time, all human beings will be resurrected to account for their deeds. Those who have performed righteous deeds will be rewarded with eternal bliss in heaven and those who have performed evil acts will be punished in hell.
Muslim Practice
Salat (Prayers): Islam demands from its adherents that beliefs be supplemented with actions. Just as God communicates with us, we need to respond to Him by undertaking certain spiritual and social duties which will draw us closer to Him. Human beings can communicate directly with God through prayers. Although they can pray anywhere, Muslims are encouraged to pray in congregation. Muslims are required to pray five times every day. Prayers are offered in Arabic. Personal supplication may be recited in any language in the pursuit of closeness to the Lord. Prayers engender inner strength and inspire one to a closer relationship with the Creator. Muslims pray towards the Ka’ba, which is situated in Mecca. It was built by Abraham and Ishmael over four thousand years ago.
Saum (Fasting): Discipline in a believer is further inculcated by fasting. Every year in the month of Ramadhan, Muslims must fast by refraining from food and drink during the day time. Fasting is regarded as an essential component in the growth of spirituality within a person. It also makes a person more aware of the plight of the poor and helps him develop willpower so as to discipline his desires.
Since Islam believes in values like chastity and morality, it prohibits all acts which lead to moral corruption. Drugs, alcohol and substance abuse are strictly prohibited in Islam.
Zakat (Alms) Muslims see wealth to be a trust from God, to be dispensed in His way. Therefore, they are asked to purify their wealth by spending a portion of their income for those in need (called zakat). Giving the zakat is seen as one of the most meritorious deeds especially as it helps fulfill the Islamic vision of creating a just and equitable society. Undertaking social responsibility by helping the needy is highly encouraged in Islam.
Hajj (Pilgrimage): Once in their lifetime, Muslims are commanded to go for pilgrimage to Mecca provided there are no financial or physical constraints. Every year, about two million Muslims from different parts of the world converge on Mecca to perform the pilgrimage. This provides a unique opportunity for Muslims of different nations and diverse backgrounds to meet one another. During the rituals, pilgrims wear white clothings and stand close together in the worship of the one Lord. Islam recognizes no racial or ethnic boundaries. The hajj is the perfect example of the oneness of people of all races and nations, worshipping and serving the Lord.
The hajj is marked by the Eid al-Adha, a festival which is marked with prayers and other rituals performed by the pilgrims in the vicinity of Mecca. These rituals are meant to purify the faithful inwardly. The day is also marked in Muslim communities in different parts of the world with celebrations and exchange of gifts. This day, together with the Eid al-Fitr, a feast day commemorating the end of Ramadhan, are the two main festivals of the Muslim calendar. The Muslim weekly holiday is on Fridays when congregational prayers are held at noon.
Islam and War
The concept of jihad (wrongly translated as holy war) refers to the duty of Muslims to defend their faith and the welfare of the Muslim community when threatened. The Qur’an does not permit aggression against anyone and Prophet Muhammad is asked to proselytize in a peaceful manner. Warfare is permitted only in self-defence. However, it must be noted that people only resort to violence when their basic human rights are violated and when all attempts at peaceful settlement are thwarted.
Islam and Human Rights
Islam teaches that human beings have a moral obligation to live in harmony with one another. Islam also recognizes and accords rights to all human beings regardless of race, color or creed. Islam requires its followers to show respect and tolerance even to those who do not share their faith. Prophet Muhammad said: “God has no mercy on one who shows no mercy to others”. Freedom of conscience is guaranteed by the Qur’an itself. It states: “There is no compulsion in religion” (2:256). Islamic law stipulates that Muslims should protect the status of minorities. Therefore the life and property of all citizens in an Islamic state are considered sacred, whether a person is a Muslim or not. Because of this, non-Muslim places of worship have survived and flourished all over the Muslim world. Islam further encourages Muslims to respect the rights of all living things. Therefore, Muslims are required to be conscious of the environment and are not allowed to cause harm to nature.
It is important to realize that far from being extremists and fanatics, Muslims are peaceful and law abiding citizens of the countries in which they live. This stance is derived directly from the Qur’an which states: “O human beings, We have created you from one male and female (Adam & Eve), We have created you as different tribes and nations so that you may know each other” (49:13).
Islam and Women
Muslim women have all the rights of their male counterparts. Islam granted full rights to women fourteen hundred years ago. Muslim women may own and dispose property; they may work, exercise voting powers and exercise other rights which women in other cultures enjoy. Muslim women may not be forced to marry against their will.
To preserve chastity, respect and moral values in society, Muslim men and women are required to dress in a manner which is considered modest and dignified. Women are asked to cover their hair and wear loose clothings. The diversity of female dress in some Muslim countries is often the expression of local customs.
Since Islam is a universal religion, it is easy to become a Muslim. One has to believe and affirm that “There is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God”. Today, the Islamic community in North America is growing rapidly with Muslims playing major roles in virtually all sectors of society.
May the blessings of the Almighty God be with you!
Liberation By The Veil
Modesty and chastity , very important ideologies with Islam, are achieved by prescribing standards on behavior and the dress of a Muslim.
A woman who adheres to the tenets of Islam is required to follow the dress code called Hijab, other synonyms are Veil, Purdah, or just Covering. It is an act of faith and establishes a Muslim’s life with honor, respect and dignity.
The Hijab is viewed as a liberation for women, in that the covering brings about “an aura of respect” (Takim, 22) and women are recognized as individuals who are admired for their mind and personality, “not for their beauty or lack of it” ( Mustafa ) and not as sex objects.
Contrary to popular belief, the covering of the Muslim woman is not oppression but a liberation from the shackles of male scrutiny and the standards of attractiveness. In Islam, a woman is free to be who she is inside, and immune from being portrayed as sex symbol and lusted after. Islam exalts the status of a woman by commanding that she “enjoys equal rights to those of man in everything, she stands on an equal footing with man ” (Nadvi, 11) and both share mutual rights and obligations in all aspects of life.
Men and women though equal are not identical, and each compliments the other in the different roles and functions that they are responsible to. ” From an Islamic perspective, to view a woman as a sex symbol is to denigrate her. Islam believes that a woman is to be judged by her [virtuous] character and actions rather than by her looks or physical features” (Takim, 22). In the article, “My Body Is My Own Business”, Ms. Naheed Mustafa , a young Canadian born and raised, university-educated Muslim woman writes, “The Quran [ which is the Holy Book for Muslims] teaches us that men and women are equal, that individuals should not be judged according to gender, beauty, wealth or privilege. The only thing that makes one person better than another is his or her character.” She goes on to say, “In the Western world, the hijab has come to symbolize either forced silence or radical, unconscionable militancy. Actually, its neither. It is simply a woman’s assertion that judgment of her physical person is to play no role whatsoever in social interaction.”
Muslims believe that God gave beauty to all women, but that her beauty is not be seen by the world, as if the women are meat on the shelf to be picked and looked over. When she covers herself she puts herself on a higher level and men will look at her with respect and she is noticed for her intellect , faith ,and personality, not for her beauty. In many societies, especially in the West, women are taught from early childhood that their worth is proportional to their attractiveness and are compelled to follow the male standards of beauty and abstract notions of what is attractive, half realizing that such pursuit is futile and often humiliating (Mustafa).
Chastity , modesty, and piety are promoted by the institution of veiling. The hijab in no way prevents a woman from playing her role as an important individual in a society nor does it make her inferior.” (Takim,22)
A Muslim woman may wear whatever she pleases in the presence of her husband and family or among women friends. But when she goes out or when men other than her husband or close family are present she is expected to wear a dress which will cover [her hair and] all parts of her body , and not reveal her figure. What a contrast with Western fashions which every year concentrate quite intentionally on exposing yet another erogenous zone to the public gaze! The intention of Western dress is to reveal the figure, while the intention of Muslim dress is to conceal [and cover] it, at least in public (Lemu,25).
The Muslim woman does not feel the pressures to be beautiful or attractive, which is so apparent in the Western and Eastern cultures. She does not have to live up to expectations of what is desirable and what is not. Superficial beauty is not the Muslim woman’s concern, her main goal is inner spiritual beauty. She does not have to use her body and charms to get recognition or acceptance in society. It is very different from the cruel methods that other societies subject women, in that their worth is always judged by their physical appearance. The are numerous examples of discrimination at the workplace where women are either accepted or rejected, because of their attractiveness and sex appeal.
Another benefit of adorning the veil is that it is a protection for women. Muslims believe that when women display their beauty to everybody, they degrade themselves by becoming objects of sexual desire and become vulnerable to men, who look at them as ” gratification for the sexual urge”(Nadvi,8).
The Hijab makes them out as women belonging to the class of modest chaste women, so that transgressors and sensual men may recognize them as such and dare not tease them out of mischief” (Nadvi, 20). Hijab solves the problem of sexual harassment and unwanted sexual advances, which is so demeaning for women, when men get mixed signals and believe that women want their advances by the way they reveal their bodies.
The western ideology of, ‘if you have it, you should flash it!’ is quite opposite to the Islamic principle, where the purpose is not to bring attention to ones self, but to be modest. Women in so many societies are just treated as s ex symbols and nothing more than just a body who “display themselves to get attention” (Mustafa). A good example is in advertising, where a woman’s body is used to sell products. Women are constantly degraded, and subjected to reveal more and more of themselves. .
The Covering sanctifies her and forces society to hold her in high esteem. Far from humiliating the woman, Hijab actually grants the woman an aura of respect, and bestows upon her a separate and unique identity (Takim, 2). According to the Qu’ran, the same high standards of moral conduct are for men as it is for women. Modesty is essential in a man’s life, as well, whether it be in action, morals or speech. Islam also commands proper behavior and dress of men, in that they are not allowed to make a wanton show of their bodies to attract attention onto themselves, and they too must dress modestly. They have a speci al commandment to lower their eyes, and not to brazenly stare at women.
In Sura Nur of the Holy Qu’ran it says, ” Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them, and God is well acquainted with what they do”. Many of the misconceptions of the Muslim woman in the west, particularly her veil stems from Arab and Muslim countries that have deviated from the true doctrines of Islam, and have ” mixed up Islamic principles with pre-Islamic pagan traditions” (Bahnassawi, 67)
In this present period of decline from Islam, many Muslim women are alienated , isolated from social life, and are oppressed by Muslim men and rulers who use the name of religion for their injustices. (Bahnassawi, 65) In this instance, the Hijab is used as a means of keeping many Muslim women away from society, with the misconception that it signifies isolation and weakness.
But as many Muslim women come back into the fold of the untainted and true Islam, they are able to recognize the injustice of men who have for so long stripped them of their rights to be an integral part of society and “deserving the same dignity, honor, progress and prosperity as the men” (Nadvi,26).
Women regaining their true identity and role in society, are now wearing Hijab and embracing its concept of liberation for women, and are taking their rightful places that Islam had endowed upon them fourteen hundred years ago.

Life of Prophet Muahmmed
Birth
Muhammad (PBUH) (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was born in Makkah, Arabia, on Monday, 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal (2 August C.E).
Youth
In his youth he believed firmly in the Oneness of Allah (God)(SWT). He lived a very simple life and hated vanity and pride. He was compassionate to the poor, widows and orphans and shared their sufferings by helping them. He avoided all vices, which were commonly practiced among young people such as gambling, drinking wine, vulgarity and others. He was well-known as As-Sadiq (the truthful) and Al-Amin (the trustworthy). He was always trusted as a mediator between two conflicting parties in his homeland, Makkah.
Marriage
When he was about 25 years old, his uncle urged him to work with the caravan which belonged to a wealthy widow named Khadijah. He accepted and undertook the journey to Syria. He conducted business with such prudence and sense of duty that he returned with larger profit than usual. Khadijah was so impressed by the honest and attractive personality of Muhammad (PBUH) that she offered to marry him which Muhammad (PBUH) accepted. This marriage was a happy one. They had children. Khadijah was so far his only wife until she died at the age of 51.
Prophethood
Muhammad (PBUH) was born amidst a polytheistic (unbeliever) society. He was saddened and sick of the corrupt society around him. He often went to Hira cave in the mountain near Makkah, later known as Jabal An-nur (the mountain of Light) where he meditated and pondered over the prevailing darkness brought about by ignorance. There he often remained deep in thought in communion with the unseen yet All-Pervading God of the Universe.
One night, while he was meditating in the Hira cave, the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to him. The Angel aroused him and his mighty voice reverberated in his ears. He was perplexed and did not know what to do. He was asked to read. He replied: “I cannot read!” The Angel repeated three times asking Muhammad (PBUH) to read, but he replied the same answer. Finally the Angel asked:
[Read in the name of your Lord , who created man from a clot. Read in the name of your God, the Most Bountiful, who taught by means of the pen, and taught man what he did not know.] (Qur’an 96: 1-5)
This was the first revelation received by Muhammad (PBUH). He was 40 years old at that time. The revelation continued to come to him from time to time in a period of 23 years.
These series of revelation were arranged according to the divine guidance given to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and later collected in the form of a Mushaf (book) the Qur’an (Reading). Most of its verses have clear meaning. Some verses are interpreted in conjunction with other verses and some others were interpreted by the Prophet (PBUH) himself through his words, actions and agreements which are known as his Sunnah (Traditions).
The Qur’an and the Sunnah together constitute the guidance and way of life for those who submit their life to Allah (God) (SWT). People who follow this guidance and way of life are guaranteed by Allah (SWT) to be saved in this world and the Hereafter.
Challenges
When the Prophet (PBUH) called the people to the way of Allah, not many people listened to his call. Most of them were members of his family and from the low class society. Among them were Khadijah, Ali, Zayd and Bilal. When he intensified his mission (da’wah: Call to Islam) by publicly announcing the religion he preached, he won more followers but at the same time had to face many challenges from the nobles and leaders who found their position being threatened and jeopardized. They stood together, under the pretext of defending the religion of their ancestors, to fight the new religion.
The morale of the few people who embraced Islam was heightened when a small group of the respected people of Makkah joined the religion.
Notable among them were `Uthman bin `Affan, Zubair bin Al-`Awwam, `Abd Ar-Rehman bin `Awf, Talhah bin `Ubaydullah, Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas, Arqam bin Abi Arqam, `Ubaydullah bin Harith, Sa’id bin Zayd, `Amr bin Nufail, Fatimah (the wife of Nufail), Asma binti Abu Bakr, `Abdullah bin Mas’ud, Ja’far bin Abi Thalib (May Allah be pleased with them) and many others. Before this group, Abu Bakr was the first among the earlier followers that impressed the Prophet (PBUH) very much. The Prophet (PBUH) said about him: “I never invited anyone to the faith who did not display any hesitation in embracing it except Abu Bakr. When I had offered Islam, he showed no hesitation at all in accepting it.”
As the result of these challenges from the Makkan unbelievers, some Muslims were subjected to torture, persecutions, isolations and boycotts. The Prophet (PBUH) had to be patient and had to look for the protection of Muslims. He asked Negus, King of Ethiopia to allow Muslims to migrate to his country. Negus welcomed the Muslims emigrants in his territory and refused to hand them over to the Makkan unbeliever rulers.
Migration (Hijrah)
By the end of the Makkan period, the Prophet (PBUH) lost two people who were dear to him. They were his most affectionate uncle, Abu Talib, and his faithful and loving wife, Khadijah. After their deaths, the Makkans felt free to do what they wanted to impose to the Prophet and his followers.
In many Makkah was the Ka’bah (the Holy Mosque), which was built by Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) centuries before as a holy place to worship Allah (SWT), the One. But in the course of time, the place had been converted by unbelievers to the worship of objects other than Allah (SWT). People added to it many tradition of their own. They used to visit this place for a few months in a year for pilgrimage. They came from all parts of Arabia, representing various famous tribes.
The pilgrimage, inspite of its religious bearing, constituted for the Arabs a yearly festival where people met and indulge in their cultural activities. The Prophet (PBUH) took this opportunity to spread Islam.
Among those who were interested in his call, were a group of people from Yathrib (Madina) in the North of Arabia. They met secretly with the Prophet (PBUH) and a few Muslims from Makkah in a village called `Aqabah. After becoming Muslims, they took an oath of allegiance to protect Islam, the Prophet and the Makkan Muslims.
The following year, the group of Muslims from Yathrib came again to Makkah. They met the Prophet (PBUH) at the same place where they previously met. This time, `Abbas bin Abd Al-Muttalib, the Prophet’s uncle who was himself not a Muslim yet, was present at the meeting. They invited the Prophet (PBUH) and the Muslims from Makkah to emigrate to Yathrib. They promised to treat them as true brothers and sisters. A long dialogue was held between the Muslims of Yathrib with the Prophet’s uncle to make sure that they really wanted to welcome the Makkan Muslims in their town. The Prophet (PBUH) agreed at the end to emigrate to the new land.
Upon knowing that, the Muslims had planned to leave Makkah, the Makkan unbelievers tried to stop the immigration but the first group had already migrated to Yathrib. The Makkans had fearthat the movement to Yathrib would give the Muslims a new base to spread Islam.
Within two months nearly all Muslims fMakkah, except the Prophet, Abu Bakr, Ali and a few helpless people had migrated. The Makkans then decided to kill the Prophet (PBUH). They made a plan for this purpose, but Allah (SWT) had made another plan over them, to quote the Qur’an. With various tactics and a good planning, the Prophet finally arrived peacefully in Yathrib, which was later known as Madinat Ar-Rasul (The city of the Prophet).
New Era
In Madinah the Prophet (PBUH) was able to work freely in spreading Islam. The followers of Islam increased day after day. But the threat by the Makkans did not stop. A few physical confrontations with the Makkans were ensued. Sometimes the battles were won by the Muslims, and sometimes by the Makkans. The Prophet (PBUH) also engaged in battles with the Byzantine and Persian powers that were jeopardizing the existence of Islam from the north and the east. But confrontation with the Makkans stopped for a while after the treaty of Hudaibiyah had been signed between the Muslims and the unbeliever Makkans.
During the Madinah period, the Muslims also established treaties with the Jews of Madinah and the tribes around the city. The Jews broke the treaty, which led to their expulsion out of the Arabian peninsula.
In Madinah, the Prophet (PBUH) succeeded in establishing Islam as a way of life in its true meaning. He was not only giving guidance on purely religious matters such as salat (prayers), zakat (almsgiving), Saum (fasting) and Hajj (pilgrimage) and examples in these matters, and also provided Muslims with rules and laws covering social, economic, political fields.
Emissaries Entertained in Madinah
It was in Madinah that the Prophet (PBUH) received envoys and emissaries from various tribes and nationals, asking matters of various sorts, demanding dialogues, negotiations etc. Among the emissaries were an envoy representing the Christian community in Najran (South Arabia). The Prophet (PBUH) welcomed them, entertained them as honoured guests and even allowed them to conduct their religious service in his city.
It was a good occasion to share each other’s views on matters of religion. Some members of the envoy were deeply impressed by the treatment they received from the Muslims, thus leading them to embrace Islam.
Liberation of Makkah
The treaty of Hudaibiyah gave the Muslims a big opportunity to exemplify the true Islam in personal conduct and in relations with peoples and communities. But the peace did not stay long due to the attitude of the Makkan tribal chiefs who broke the treaty. Soon the Prophet (PBUH) marched very quietly to Makkah in the 8th year of the Hijrah (emigration) to Madinah. The Makkans gave no resistance and by the whole city surrendered to the Prophet (PBUH). He announced a general amnesty for all his enemies and treated all citizens of the city with generosity. A verse of the Qur’an was revealed on the occasion:
[ When the help of Allah and victory comes, and you see the people enter the religion of Allah in crowds. So glorify the Name of your Lord and beg His forgiveness. He, verily accept repentance.] (Qur’an 110: 1-3)
After the liberation of Makkah all the remaining hostile tribes in Arabia began to realize the reality of Islamic faith. People had seen the noble teachings of Islam. Good examples of forgiveness, tolerance, justice, fairness, steadfastness and other qualities as exemplified by the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions had left an impression in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people who became Muslims.
Farewell Pilgrimage
In time the whole Arabia had become the land of Islam. The Prophet (PBUH) intended to perform the Hajj (pilgrimage). He announced his intention to the Muslims in Madinah and the surrounding areas and asked them to join him. This was in fact the only Hajj performed by him during his life time.
On this occasion he taught those who were present with him and to the whole world about the Hajj and the divine message that Allah had entrusted him to all mankind.
At the last gathering with the Ummah (nation) during the Hajj season, the Hajj of Wada’ (Farewell) a sermon was delivered by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at the valley of Arafat about 81 or 82 days before his death.
It contained the very fundamentals of Islam. Seated on his camel, he spoke with a clear tone and asked who heard his speech to convey it to those who were not present there. Among others he said:
“O people, lend me and attentive ear, for I know not whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
O people, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury, therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived.
Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hopes that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.
O people, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in mildness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to commit adultery.
O people, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah (SWT), say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in zakat. Perform hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. Nobody has superiority over the other except by piety and good deeds.
Remember, one day your will appear before Allah (SWT) and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not go astray from the path of righteousness after my death.
O people, no Prophet or Messenger will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore,
O people, and understand my words, which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur’an and my example, the Sunnah, and if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness O’ Allah, (SWT) that I have conveyed Your message to Your slaves.”
The importance of this sermon can be seen from the Prophet’s perception that this occasion may be the last one during his lifetime. He felt that this was the right time to summarize the principles of Islam to his fellow brothers and sisters.
By the perfection of this religion, it means that there’s no need for humanity, and for the Muslims in particular, to look for another alternative way of life. As long as one holds fast to the two things left behind by the Prophet (the Qur’an and the Sunnah), one will never go astray.
Death
About two months after returning from Makkah for Pilgrimage, the Prophet (PBUH) became ill but he was still able to perform his prayers in the mosque and give directives to the companions. His health was deteriorating day by day. At the last moment he asked Abu Bakr to lead the prayers in the mosque, Every member of his family and every companion was worried about his health. It was on Monday, 12th Rabi’Al-Awwal, the year 11A.H., when he passed away at the age of sixty three years.
Many people did not believe that he had passed away. They thought that the Messenger of Allah would live forever. It was Abu Bakr, who had the feeling, since the Farewell Pilgrimage that the death of the Prophet (PBUH) was coming near, He convinced the congregation that the Prophet (PBUH) had actually passed away.
Abu Bakr said to the congregation that if they worshipped Mu, Muhammad had died , and if they worshipped Allah (SWT), He lives forever. Then hrecited from the Qur’an:
“Muhammad (PBUH) is nought but a Messenger like the Messengers who had surely passed away before him: will you, then, if he dies or be slain, turn round on your heels?”

There has been a great deal of research done in the last few years on the health benefits of green tea. Research has ranged from antioxident components to a dieters dream of raising metabolic rate.
Green tea contains several antioxidents such as vitamin E and C. One in particular, EGCG, is very powerful. While antioxidents are associated with free radical damage they have also been linked to weight loss.
Green tea contains a group of compounds called tannins which have a calming effect on the nerves. Keeping stress levels low is important in weight loss. If stress levels are allowed to rise for a long period of time the fat storage hormone cortisol is secreted and rapid weight gain could ensue.
Most important, green tea has the ability to boost your metabolism. Polyphenol compounds in green tea appear to accelerate calorie burning, including fat calories. It does so by regulating the breakdown of norepinephrine, a brain chemical that controls metabolism.
If you are on a fat loss program always choose beverages with no calories. Your best choices are green tea and water. Green tea will give you healthy antioxidents, calm your nerves, increase your metabolism and aid in weight loss on all fronts.
