The Serious Threats of Labor-Related Sexual Harassment
The growing number of incidents related to sexual harassments in the workplace is one of the major concerns that the U.S. employment sector is dealing with. In the past few years, thousands or even a hundred thousand of these cases were reported and were filed in the courts every year. Consequently, a lot of the victims suffered a great deal of emotional damages due to these indecent acts. One of the questions that arose in these labor issue is how can we say that the said acts are done unlawfully and maliciously rather than that of the acceptable human behavior. Thus, the major public finds the definition of sexual harassment as assumed by the law, very vague. In this reason, and also maybe of the uncomfortable and tricky procedures of defending a sexual harassment case, most of the victims fail to succeed in their pursuit of justice.
Sexual harassment, as defined in the Federal Laws under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, is a form of sex discrimination. It may also be considered as “an unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual’s employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual’s work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment” according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Furthermore, each State may adapt different provisions in confronting this issue. They greatly vary on defining the terms and the approach on what proper sanctions should be sentenced to the assailant. But still, the victims may file their sexual harassment claims to the proper courts to obtain at least monetary damages from the party who brought them much emotional or even physical pain to some extent.
Although the thin line that separates the two different types of sexual harassment cases is slowly taken away through these past years, most courts still use it to determine the merits of the claims. Quid Pro Quo is a form of sexual harassment where the guilty party has the authority over his or her victim that enables him or her to demand sexual relationship to the victim in exchange of job favors such as promotions and salary increases. On the other hand, Hostile Work Environment is a type that comes in other ways not attributed to physical contact such as informal jokes or threats which may cause intimidation to the victim and subsequently creates an indecent work environment.
Apparently, these sinful and immoral acts should be dealt with accordingly and with much advocacy to deter more incidents from happening. Victims may also acquire the legal services of professional lawyers who are experts in dealing with labor malpractices to further enhance the possibility of obtaining justice.
Indeed, every employee deserves to be treated well not only by their superiors but as well as their co-workers. The workplace is not the area for sexual pleasure, but rather it is where everyone should respect each other’s rights and be economically productive citizens.

Parenting the Strong-Willed Child and Keeping the Upper Hand
If you haven’t experienced it for yourself, you’ve seen its effects. You’ve seen the haggard, weary-looking faces of countless mothers trudging through the grocery store aisles holding the hands of little ones wearing that triumphant “I’ve just got my way, again” smirk.
You’ve seen grown women brought to tears in the check out line or at the doctor’s office by a small, wriggling, screaming body that just won’t seem to quit. And while you may feel lucky that you escaped all of that torture, don’t congratulate yourself just yet. Your time for dealing with a strong-willed child may be quickly approaching and you will need all of your parenting skills to cope with it.
When talking about strong-willed children, there are two age brackets that pop into mind very quickly: the terrible twos and the always-torturous teenage years. While you may think that these two ages require completely different parenting approaches, they do not. Of course, the language that you use will change, but the basics for parenting strong-willed children stay the same no matter the age.
The key to parenting strong-willed children is consistency. Sounds easy, huh? Well it’s not. Children have a way of wearing you down until you just want whatever it is they’re doing to stop. Sometimes parents tend to cave or give in to their children just to bring the conflict to an end. This is the worst possible thing that you can do when dealing with a strong-willed child because it just reinforces that their negative behavior evokes a positive outcome.
To show children that their antics are not going to have any effect on your decisions, you must consistently show them that you mean what you say. Don’t bend the rules or let punishments slide no matter how tough it gets. While it may be rough in the beginning, the more that your child sees that you will not be swayed the more he or she will listen to you without putting up a fight.
Do not fight with your child. When nerves are strained and tempers flare, it can be very easy to fall into a pattern of fighting with your child. Avoid this at all costs. Always try to remain calm and unruffled, at least in the presence of your child. In order to do this, you will need patience. Don’t be afraid to take a break when things get too tough. Walking away from the situation for a few minutes of peace and quiet is often all that is needed to strengthen your resolve.
In addition to following these parenting tips yourself, be sure to bring the co-parent and grandparents in on the plan. If everyone in the strong-willed child’s life uses the same approach, the child will have to buckle down and follow the rules.
On the upside of things, strong-willed children generally become highly motivated, successful adults. They usually have high-self esteem, high energy, and extreme intelligence; they are just lacking the skills to contain their own greatness and let it shine when and where appropriate. Keeping this in mind, try not to brow beat your children into submission. Instead, lovingly show them how to control emotions and how to properly assert themselves.

Checklist for Launching a Successful Internet Business (Part 2 Of 2)
- Time Are you prepared to put in the time required to make your site a success? When the site launches, will you be ready to roll?
The biggest investment of time comes before the site is launched and in the period immediately after it launches. First, you have to do all the research. You have to understand how you’re going to break into your market, and know exactly what you want your online business to do. Once your first sites are built and launched, you have to do all the marketing. Only once it’s up and running will you be able to relax, move into monitor mode and begin thinking about your next opportunity. How long that takes depends on how much time you invest at the beginning and how successful your marketing efforts are. It usually takes a few months.
- Advertisers and Affiliates Have you identified advertisers and affiliates who will promote your site, your products and your services?
You can start looking for advertising opportunities and affiliate programs before you even launch your site. The more prepared you are when you launch, the quicker you’ll be able to move from inception to income.
- Opt-In Email Have you identified features for your site that will build a marketable opt-in email list? Have you though about what you’re going to put on your pop up and how you’re going to manage the list when you get it.
The people on your opt-in email list are like a little pool of potential customers–and repeat customers. The more people you can bombard with your marketing material, the more money you’re going to make. Ways to trap email addresses should form a part of your site design.
- Monitoring Have you identified monitoring features for your site that will provide you with information about your target market? Do you have a way of knowing who has visited your site? Do you have a method of collecting data from your visitors to help you improve your site?
The Internet changes constantly. One week, you can have top rankings and a sales rate to die for; the next week, your site be down on page fifteen with traffic made up of spam from Romania. You have to keep track of your traffic, and be prepared to make changes to your marketing plan.
- Joint Ventures Do you have an idea who you could partner with to offer complementary services that bring real benefits to you, your partner and your users?
Joint ventures are your partnerships for success. They allow you to pool resources with other entrepreneurs to bring real benefits for all of you. Start by talking to the people who send the newsletters you like to read each week. Then move out into people who provide complementary services to the ones you offer. As you build up your business, keep your eye open for new opportunities all the time.
- Vision Do you know what you want to achieve and what you’ll do when you get there?
If your goal is only to make money, you can achieve that in your first week on the Web. Most of us have bigger goals than that though. Whether you want to be the Bill Gates of online marketing or simply set up an automated revenue stream that will bring in a constant flow of cash with very little maintenance, you can do all that on the Internet–as long as you know what you want.

Do Tarot Cards Still Have a Place in Our World?
In a world increasingly jaded by technology and progress, it’s easy to scoff at people who blindly entrust their lives to a deck of cards. We tell ourselves, we are rational, clear-headed people, so how can randomly shuffled cards spread on the table possibly answer all our life’s questions.
Tarot cards have had a crucial and inseparable influence in mysticism and the occult. They first arrived sometime in fifteenth century Italy, but it was not until late 17th or 18th century that tarot cards began to be used in divination. The tarot cards that we know today have gone through a long and evolution, from the pictures, symbolisms, procedures, purposes, and meanings. It is interesting to note that tarot cards were originally used in a game, with 21 trump cards, four queens, and a fool added to a normal deck, which totals to 78 cards in all. But it is unclear exactly how tarot branched out from a simple mind-diverting game into the fragile business of looking back into past lives, foretelling the future, and answering questions.
Archetypes The highly-respected psychologist Carl Jung has always considered tarot as an alternative psychotherapy. For him, the rich imagery inherent in every tarot card represents archetypes of human personality and situations. Archetypes are basic models or prototypes of people that embody a defined set of characteristics. The Emperor card, for instance, can be thought of as representing the patriarch or the father figure.
Over the years, we piece together various archetypes according to our needs. These archetypes are embedded in our unconscious and thus they can affect our actions and thoughts without our knowing. Consequently, our choices of tarot cards when we pick them out from that “innocent” deck reveal our feelings, attitudes, and even fears towards such figures in our lives. For instance, we may not know it, but we have always shied from responsibilities and commitment in lives whenever there is a father figure looming in the background, etc.
Tarot cards offer an alternative language system through which we can access our Unconscious. Therefore, we do not just randomly pick tarot cards, or blindly entrust our lives to them. Every moment of our lives, we lay ourselves bare with the choices we make, even for something as papery as tarot cards.
The Missing Tarot in the Skeptic’s World Tarot readings then should not be dismissed as just some pretend psychic business exploiting a person’s gullibility. The art of tarot cards is subtle, delicate, yet powerful. It is energized by centuries of symbolism and meaning created, expounded, and developed by people who dared to see beyond. For them, the Arcane that lies on the fringes of human experience holds the secrets we need to survive.
Before we question the legitimacy of tarot cards, we should first look into the person who wants to inquire about himself/herself. Will they see to believe, or believe to see?
Tables are still more practical than pure CSS
There has been a fad recently in web design that involves replacing every table tag with a div tag. Well, what are the practical benefits to this?
Well, there aren’t really any real-life benefits to it. The general rule of coding in web design is to keep things clean and simple. It may at first seem that CSS fills this requirement due to the simple XHTML its designs require, but don’t be fooled. It’s one thing to use the CSS to replace the same elements that will be used all over the place. But it’s another issue entirely if you take little bits and pieces of code out of the page and bury it some huge .css file, then try to figure it all out two months later when you want to edit it.
What about cross-compatibility? Not so good with too much CSS. Sometimes, CSS can’t even get text styles consistent across major browsers. Microsoft is always adding MS-only non-standard features, and it’s generally a nightmare to get more complex things to work correctly in IE. Cross-compatibility is not an option for more complex CSS-only sites.
CSS-only designs are primarily to separate the design from the content. But if you ever go back to edit the design it means hours of trying to figure out what styles applied to what content and so forth. So the bottom line is that, contrary to what the css zealots say, avoid at all costs using CSS divs on a site wide basis.
Summary on sharks!
Sharks are wonderful animals that have been around since as long as the dinosaurs existed: They inhabit in waters all over the world, in every sea, and even in some lakes and tributaries.
There are around 358 unique species of sharks that can be divided into thirty different families. These families are all very special in the way they live, eat, and appear. All sharks have different sizes, shapes, teeth, teeth, fins, habitat, diet, personality, method of reproduction, and other attributes. Some species of shark are very rare—great white shark–and others might be common–dogfish shark. All sharks belong to the domain of cartilaginous fish—Elasmobranches. This group also includes shakes and stingrays. Sharks are also one type of fish that have no bones–only cartilage. Some parts of their skeleton—their spine–are full of calcium. Although, most sharks do not chew their food, but gulp it down whole it in large pieces, many sharks have up to 3000 teeth in their entire jaw. Their teeth are arranged in rows. If one tooth is damaged or lost, it often substituted by another. Most sharks can have around five rows of teeth at a single time. Although they may have many rows of teeth, the front set of teeth is the largest and does most of the chewing.
Unlike the bony kind of fish, sharks are boneless: Their skeleton is made of only cartilage, which is a very strong, fibrous material but not nearly as hard as bone. Also unlike bony fish Sharks also have no gal bladder. There are many different types of sharks that can range in size from as big as a human’s hand to bigger than a minivan. Adult sharks can grow to a size from seven inches long–Spine Pygmy shark– up fifteen meters in length–the Whale shark. Although there are some exceptions, generally sharks are medium in size, and are about the same length as humans; around five to seven feet tall. The fact is half of the three hundred sixty eight, shark species are actually less than one meter in length.
Sharks come in many different types of body shapes. Generally, sharks have a streamlined, torpedo-shaped body that can easily glide through the water. Although, some bottom-dwelling sharks—angel sharks– have flattened bodies that allow them to hide in the sand of the ocean bed. Even some sharks have an elongated body shapes–cookie cutter sharks. For instance, the Saw sharks have extra long snouts, thrasher sharks have a extraordinary elongated upper tail fin, which they use to paralyze prey, and hammerheads have extraordinarily wide heads. And finally, the Goblin shark has a giant, pointed spike on its head, making it seem like a goblin.
Most sharks reside in relatively warm waters; like the bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammer-head shark. The minority of sharks, such as the mako, thresher, basking and blue shark, live in temperate water, which is neither very cold nor hot. Many other sharks, including the Greenland, Globin and dogfish shark, inhabit in even cooler waters! Some sharks stay in the same region their entire lives while others will migrate across oceans in search of breeding grounds.
Triple Approach to Making Goals
At the beginning of every year you see far too many articles on how to keep resolutions and set goals you can make. Oh, such good advice!
One article shows you how to set one big goal for the year and then break it down into quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily segments. Furthermore, it tells you to write all that down as well as your accomplishments each day regarding your daily segment.
You do that for each of your goals. Let’s hope you don’t have more than two goals and then decide you want to lose ten pounds.
That is the conscious, left-brained approach.
Another article tells you that you need to program your subconscious mind to put it in synch with your conscious desires and goals. I’ve written several of these. This can be done through hypnosis, self-hypnosis, directed writing, and, above all, repetition. It works like subliminal advertising and can even motivate you to write down all that stuff the left-brained guys tell you to do.
Those trained in neuro-linguistic programming echo my thesis that goal setting and accomplishment needs the cooperation of the subconscious mind. To the concept of repetition they emphasize adding the appropriate emotion so the programming will take hold. For example, if you set a goal to complete a degree by a certain date in order to make more money but do not have a passionate interest in the coursework, the programming won’t hold.
Or, if you have a goal to save enough money to quit your lousy job but don’t have another job or business in mind that really attracts you, no matter how strong your negative feeling is your subconscious won’t help. But, when you add a strong feeling toward something you want badly, your subconscious will help you get it.
Unless, of course, you get caught in psychological reversal. That’s called PR in some circles-not marketing ones.
Psychological reversal means some part of your psyche does not want you to have what you consciously think that you want. That part of your psyche was drummed into you through repetition years ago and is lodged in your body. It can be uncovered and released through a combination of specific affirmations and tapping acupressure points.
This is the third approach. So, if you have not yet met your monthly goal or have given up setting goals, you can find out why. Meanwhile, forgive and accept yourself every day. Why not?
