Submitting Your Site to Yahoo!
If you have your own website then it is common knowledge that you should submit your website to the search engines to enable people to find you. One of the most popular search engines is Yahoo! so it makes sense to have this high on your priorities.
In line with other search engines such as Google, Yahoo! are keen to know about your site. Their goal is to discover and index all of the content available on the web to provide the best possible search experience to their users.
In days gone by you would simply submit your sites homepage and let their spider find the rest of your pages. Now, they encourage you to submit your whole site in one go with a number of options for doing this.
You can now submit RSS or Atom feeds with your complete website details or a simple text file containing a list of all your urls.
The text file is by far the simplest method for most webmasters as all you have to do is create a file named “urllist.txt” and enter all your urls.
An example of a text list is:
http://www.mysite.com/
http://www.mysite.com/page1.html
http://www.mysite.com/page2.html
http://www.mysite.com/page3.html
and so on.
There are obvious advantages to submitting your whole site to Yahoo! in one go. You no longer have to rely on their spider picking up your pages especially ones deep linked into your site as this way they know from the start where they are.
Once you have created your urllist.txt file, upload it to your sever and then submit the file to Yahoo!
To do this you will need a Yahoo account if you don’t already have one but it is completely free to set up.
Whilst having your pages included within a search engine’s index doesn’t guarantee you will get visitors, you can be 100% sure that you won’t get visitors if your pages aren’t in there.

The Problem With Google
If you do a search on Google for “shop for ping pong balls” it is probably because you are looking for the best offers for ping pong balls available on the Internet. Google is however more likely to show you results with websites which are optimized for the keywords in your search, rather than the websites with the best offers. In this article we explore why this is so, and what search engine optimization means for the Internet and companies wanting to make money online.
Search engines assign a rank to webpages in order to assign different importance to the different pages. The general idea is that the higher the rank of a page is, the higher it will be displayed in search results. Slightly simplified, the more inbound links a page has, the higher a rank search engines will assign to the page. A link from a page with a high rank is assigned a higher importance than a link from a page with a lower rank. Other factors are considered too of course – a link from a page about ping pong balls appears to be considered more important to a ping pong ball website than a link from a page about some unrelated topic. And another very important aspect is that the content of a page is matched with the keywords used for the search.
The idea behind assigning of such a rank is that a page is considered to vote for another page by linking to it. This generally makes good sense as I – and other website administrators – are likely to link to a page which has information that I find good and useful.
The problem with it is that I – as a website administrator – will do my best to get as many good inbound links to my site as I can in order to develop my online business. As few other websites link to my website by themselves – despite my wonderful product – I engage in link building and search engine optimization. By this, I mean that I try to get inbound in a number of ways. I post messages on forums about earning money on the Internet, get listed in dodgy directories and write articles which are posted on numerous websites. I am not the only website administrator who works this way. And unfortunately, not everyone produces content of as high quality as myself. On the website where you’re reading this article, by far the most information was produced simply to let website administrators get inbound links from content with the keywords they target. This is also why you find terms like “making money online” throughout this article. The quality of an article needs to just be good enough to be accepted on the site and the author has achieved what he or she wants.
So there we have it. Because of the way search engines assign rank, the Internet is filled with information of dubious quality. You may even think of all this information – including this very article (which – strictly speaking – isn’t about making money on the Internet) – as a kind of spam. As long as the search engines continue to assign rank the way they do now, the internet will be filled with more and more of such junk. I know for sure, that I’ll continue to write articles – however remotely related to making money online – just to get inbound links.
So is there are better way?
Well, we’re still waiting for the next generation of search engines to come along. This is likely to be based on a different philosophy which is already used elsewhere: rating and voting. On a website like youtube, users rate the content they view, and the number of votes and average vote can be seen by other users. This is exactly the type of information that would be useful for you, the purchaser of ping pong balls. You’ll want the website with the highest rank – assigned by other customers – to ensure that you get the best quality of ping pong balls at the best price. This surely would be much more useful to you, than the websites who managed to get the most inbound links to their websites.
Until such a search engine is developed (making the creators a lot of money) I will have to rely on articles like the one you are reading now. Having the best product in my category is currently not what it takes to make it online.

The SEO Consultant Approach
If you are wondering what to expect from a SEO consultant then please read on.
Questions you’re likely to be asked
What are your business objectives i.e. increased traffic, sales, enquiries or visibility?
What marketing strategies do you currently have in place?
What are the demographics of your target audience?
What are your primary & secondary key phrases?
Are there any design, infrastructure or development considerations?
How do you currently measure performance?
Are you buying paid media, what’s the mix & what are the flight dates?
Where/how are you currently performing?
Who are your competitors?
The next step
Once the clients business objectives and strategic marketing plan have been understood, the SEO consultant is in a position to make a proposal for your SEO campaign. A typical proposal might look something like this:
Stage 1 – Analysis & Research
The first task is to identify the most important pages of the web property for optimisation. Through keyword research and competitor analysis the key phrases that will boost relevancy and bring the most targeted and qualified traffic are identified. This data is reviewed and any necessary alterations are made before agreement and progression to the next stage.
Stage 2 – On Site Optimisation
Using the information provided by stage 1, deeper analysis is performed to determine the key elements that need to be optimised for overall SEO success.
Recommendations are made in the form of a comprehensive document that developers or designers can easily follow. Detailed specifications are given and HTML snippets for copy and pasting directly into the source code are provided where necessary. Functional requirements and specifications are made for programming changes and an audit is carried out to verify recommendations have been implemented correctly.
A snapshot of the websites current online presence within the major search engines is taken and used to create a benchmark to measure future progress and the return on investment.
Support to the developers is provided throughout the implementation process, as are detailed explanations of the why’s, where fore’s and implications of every recommendation.
Stage 3 – Initiating the Link Building Process
Submissions to the relevant search engines and free directories are made at this stage. This is a good time to discuss submission to paid for inclusion directories such as Yahoo and BestOfTheWeb, along with any others that will give SEO value. This is also a good time to discuss relevant link partner procurement, methods for approaching related websites for free links and text link rental opportunities or other online advertising opportunities.
Stage 4 – Ongoing Maintenance & Reporting
Continual monitoring of the marketplace, changes to search engine criteria and keyword trends is essential to maximising the effectiveness of SEO tactics. Tracking user behaviour also highlights usability issues and is critical in measuring and improving conversion rates. Results are measured using benchmarks set by the previous month’s activity and recommendations for further optimisation are made as opportunities arise and business objectives change.
Stage 5 – Ongoing Off Site Optimisation
A continual flow of incoming links is essential to drive traffic and increase rankings. Once the on-site factors have been optimised the link building campaign will usually commence, targeting the relevant key phrases and their alternatives. Generally speaking generic key phrases are targeted first with efforts being channeled towards long-tail or phrase based searches later on in the campaign.
Do it yourself Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization and web design have become activities that are very popular and accessible to regular people. There is a lot of information available on the web for those eager to get their teeth into it. Basically, if you’ve got plenty of time on your hands and have a fairly good knowledge of how the Internet works, you could learn to do it all yourself. However, the learning process is a time consuming one and it would mean deterring yourself from day to day aspects of your business which require your attention.
There are millions of websites on the internet for different topics and it’s difficult to find one. The best way to finding desire site to using search engines, but the search engine may result more than 100000’s of websites. Websites with high ranking are listed in first few pages. Well, how would you make your website listed as high as possible in the result results?
In order to achieve this you need to work on Search engine optimization. Search engine marketing is as complex as traditional marketing. It’s applied to a completely different medium, the online one. Even professional companies sometimes offer only some SEO services instead of the whole package.
We have gathered some important tips to make it ease and help you to understand the process involved.
Site Page Naming
Page names are important! Relevant pages should be named after their primary keyword phrase.
Site File Names Analysis
Like the directory structure, file names play an equally important role. All file names should contain primary keywords or keyword phrases.
Web Page Title
The title tag of your page is the single most important factor to be considered when optimizing your web page for the search engines. It is because most engines & directories place a high level of importance on keywords that are found in your title tag.
Meta Tags
Meta elements provide information about a given webpage, most often to help search engines categorize them correctly, and are inserted into the HTML code in the format illustrated above, but are not visible to a user looking at the site.Meta tags are one of the most important elements of a web page when a search engine indexes it. This was originally created to help search engines find out important information about your page that they might have had difficulty determining otherwise. For Example, related keywords or a description of the page itself.
A search engine to display a short description of what your web page contains very often uses the description Meta tag. Some search engines look at the keywords entered into the keywords meta tag and will use this to display your page in the search results if it is one of the words used in the search criteria.
Web Page Copywriting
Like a Meta and Title tags, the content of your page is an important element in the search engine optimization process. The page copy being the actual, visible main content of the page should be presented and arranged in a logical and visually pleasing manner.
Search Engines Like the High Street
Search engine optimization is confusing to many business owners. In many ways, the importance of high ranking web pages in search engines is similar to the importance of a premium position in the high street for a retail shop. Retailers well understand the benefits of paying some premium to be well placed in the street but do they have a similar understanding of the value of premium search engine rankings? It is unlikely. How can SEO practitioners help to build this understanding?
In the bricks and mortar world, it is well understood that a premium location in the high street benefits from ‘passing trade’. People passing by a shop will gaze through the window and, depending upon the effectiveness of the window dressing, might be enticed to visit even though they had not originally intended to do so. Most of these people are on their way somewhere planned or are just ‘browsing’ for a little recreational activity. Either way, they can be enticed to enter the shop and when they do, there is always the prospect of a sale.
Similarly on the internet, a search for something specific might result in a list of ‘most relevant’ content being presented. All of the top positions in the resulting list have been paid for to some extent. Listings in the pay per click advertising are competing through a bidding system for premium locations on the page and those websites prominent in organic search results have typically spent some time, effort and money to be there. Like the bricks and mortar world, these listings present opportunities to entice the visitor to click through to the website; and once there have the potential to spend.
My research in recent years shows two important trends in online behavior; as people become more familiar with the internet, so they are more likely to buy online and secondly, perhaps as a consequence, the proportion of sales is shifting from traditional channels to the internet. In some industries, there is more business conducted online than in other channels. Some businesses have been quick to recognize this and have responded rapidly by establishing a strong presence in search engines. Others though are slower to react and are losing business.
The high street analogy with search engine optimization is useful because it helps to explain the online phenomenon. Search engine optimization is money well spent (assuming that the money is directed to effective SEO activity) and unlike premium retail positions, is not yet affordable only for large companies. Smaller companies have every opportunity to position well in the search engines and reap significant rewards.
Business does not yet understand the online world and the science of search engine optimization or search engine advertising. By using analogies that relate to the offline world, we as SEO practitioners can help to grow that understanding.
Traffic Building – Is Guaranteed Web Site Traffic Reality or a Myth?
I was doing some online research recently and I ran across the phrase “guaranteed web site traffic” many times, and was puzzled by their meaning, and intent of such a bold statement, but mostly I wondered what exactly it guaranteed. What was the benefit for you or me?
Question: What is guaranteed web site traffic anyway?
Dictionary.com gives you nine different results for “guarantee”, but the number one definition was as follows: “1. a promise or assurance, esp. one in writing, that something is of specified quality, content, benefit, etc., or that it will perform satisfactorily for a given length of time: a money-back guarantee.”
Answer: What is it that you expect from guaranteed website traffic?
This definition infers that you can expect web site traffic of a specific quality, quantity, or may expect some benefit, otherwise you would get your money back, get replacements, cancel without penalty, or some such thing if you were ever to buy such guaranteed web site traffic.
A Typical Example of Ad Copy Guaranteed Website Traffic – Using our “xyz abc” technology we can deliver from X thousand to Y million targeted visitors directly to your site each month.
Wow! If its that easy why do so many internet marketers still struggle with getting web site traffic……..they should simply sign up with any number of these available promotions and get thousands of visitors every month, end of your problem right!
Let me ask you – So what should you say about your web site traffic?
1) You get thousands or millions of visitors monthly 2) You got more clicks than you ever got before 3) You are getting more page views than ever
I believe that the only thing that matters is profitable sales.
If a traffic source provides you 100 visitors a day, but no sales, it is useless. If a traffic source provides you 10 visitors a day, but 2 sales, it is great.
You will look a long time to find a guaranteed web site traffic offer that will talk about results of any kind, so what is the guarantee really worth to you.
Through experience I have learned that the only guaranteed web site traffic comes from traffic that you finally will learn to generate for yourself.
The cost of acquiring a new customer for the first time continues to get more expensive, so your online marketing strategy of creating multiple responsive opt in email lists, and is based on the online profitability that comes from nurturing and retaining existing customers.
By learning that there are only 3 core principles to creating profits online, one of which is web site traffic generation, and if you do not convert that traffic into sales, creating profits online, you will be guaranteed web site traffic is a myth, and the reality is you will be out of business fast.

Mastering The Search Engines
If you go strictly by the numbers, Yahoo, MSN and Google are the “Big 3″ of search engines and directories. Everyone who creates a site wonders how to get traffic to their newly created site, this is the most important question every new webmaster asks, is how to do this.
In the past it was very easy to get your website ranked in the search engines, all you needed to do was stuff keywords into your site that you wanted to rank high with, stuff the meta tags and wait for the search engines to index the page and in a couple of days your site was in the top 10-20 in the search engines results. This worked very well because your site was stuffed with the keywords you wanted to the visitors to find on the search engines. This is not the case anymore, now you need links pointing to your site, content, optimization, and the proper keywords.
Fresh content is very important in terms of search engine optimization. For example, a page that has its content updated daily will find that search engine crawls the page more often than the other less active pages. Adding more fresh content to your site is very important since it keeps the search engines coming back to your site.
When a search engine finds your site it follows all of your links on your page, it will index other pages on your site and follow the links to other sites to index other webmaster sites pages.
The key to any real success in seo is in approaching the task in the mindset that the search engine is at least as good as a human at reviewing, appraising and listing your site. People pay SEO firms to optimize their websites and they pay them a lot of money, remember once you start with an SEO firm you will need to continue to keep your ranking on the search engines.
Make sure you avoid linking to other webmaster that are not ethical, if you link to someone who the search engines ban it might effect your rankings on the search engine. Try to get other websites that are relevant and that already appear in the search engines to link to your website. Indexing is when a web crawler or spider goes thru your site and reviews all the relevant keywords, links, and information contained on your site. Not surprisingly, they often rank very highly when you search for relevant words.
To build links many webmasters use directories, article directories and reciprocal link exchanges and some more advanced webmasters use affiliate programs. Individuals who place their website links on web directories have a better shot at obtaining higher search engine ranking. There are a few different reasons why search engines place a high value on the web directories which are human-edited. Humans take the time to review the links and the sites making the directory link a reliable link which is approved. Place your websites link on many directories as you can, one of the most important directories is dmoz.
Is True Success Active or Passive?
A simple definition of success could be something about achieving one’s goal or goals.
We often read or hear, “he achieved success” in such and such a year or upon completion of a project. Success seems to be viewed by many people as an end in itself. Once reached, some sort of cup or wreath is given to the victor, and they remain “successful” for all time. The term is, somewhat confusingly, applied in several types of situations. In baseball, a batter may be successful at a single time at bat, yet not be successful for the entire game or season. A politician runs a successful campaign when he or she is elected to the office which was sought. That same politician may run an unsuccessful campaign and yet be successful in bringing some important issue or issues to the attention of the electorate.
So, it is easy to look at success as being, as mentioned, the achievement of a specific goal, whether your own or someone else’s. After all, the ballplayer may be wanting a hit to reach a new record, and his manager may want the hit to make it to one more playoff so he can hold on to his job, and the owner may want the hit in order to win the game and create an atmosphere where he can sell more tickets to future games.
However, if we are to look at success as applied to an entire life, one home run, as successful as it may be at the moment doesn’t quite define a person. After all, to continue with the baseball motif, Bobby Thomson hit the “Shot Heard Round The World”, a home run that won the 1951 World Series to help the New York Giants win the pennant. He went on to have a good career as a ball player, but never achieved such a high level of (subjective) success as on that particular day. Oddly enough, waiting in the on-deck circle that day was a rookie who would achieve a level of success that Thomson never reached. He was a young kid named Willie Mays. At a later point, Hammerin’ Hank Aaron, one of the most successful ball players of all time, got his chance to play in the big leagues due to Thomson’s breaking his ankle.
Sticking with baseball just a little longer, let’s take a quick look at Roberto Clemente. As a ball player, he won four batting crowns and had 3,000 hits. His achievements as a baseball player include: All-Star (15): 1960-67, 1969-72; National League MVP 1966; Gold Glove (12): 1961-1972; 1971 World Series MVP. His life and career were cut short at age 38 when he died in a plane crash while flying relief supplies to Nicaraguan earthquake victims. Throughout his career, his humanitarianism earned him the respect and admiration of fans, players, and the public in general. If success is doing the right thing for the right reasons, then Roberto Clemente was a successful man, just as Mother Theresa was a successful woman.
While people who achieve what the public tends to applaud as success often do gain fame and wealth, they are also often NOT the people who are considered to be the real successes of a society. And, while we often hear a great deal about people who gain momentary success by achieving some great feat or goal, such as sailing around the world, or scoring the most points in a game, we hear for decades, and often for centuries after they are gone, about those whose lifetime of success was measured in small daily actions and attitudes which contributed to the betterment of their fellow humans or the improvement of the earth upon which we all depend so completely.

What is the lemon law?
A lemon law is a statute that obliges the manufacturer of the new vehicle that has a non-conformity (a persistent condition or fault that can cause the decrease in its value, use or safety) to provide a refund or a new replacement. Each state has its own lemon law and lemon laws in America can vary.
The father of lemon law statutes is the Magnuson-Moss Act. Enacted in 1975, it has become a landmark publication. It was aimed at promoting consumer rights to protect buyers against acquiring continually defective vehicles. It is an effective tool to counter deceptive warranty practices. It is applicable to goods with a price tag of over $25 bought after 4 July 1975 (the date the legislation came into force) with a major emphasis on automobiles.
The Act is centered on the express warranty that the manufacturer supplies the customer with. It facilitates bringing in warranty suits as it envisages the award of the attorney’s fees. What is an express warrant? It is an oral or written confirmation by the manufacturer to remedy any defects or replace the vehicle if he fails to meet the specifications set forth within a stated period time, which is often referred to as a warranty period.
The Magnuson-Moss Act is to be applied to express written warranties. It can be useful if the manufacturer refuses to repair, refund or otherwise remedy the vehicle. Then the customer is to take the case to the arbitration court and to prove:
* the warranty is in place * it has been breached * the vehicle has developed a defect, * which was caused by the breach of warranty
The Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act served as a basis for state lemon laws. The definitions of an express warranty and period differ from state to state too. Generally, the mileage under warranty makes 12,000-18,000 miles, while the warranty period ranges from 12 to 24 months.
Apart from the above-mentioned laws, there is the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), which grants the customer the right for a refund or replacement of the vehicle that the manufacturer claimed to be defect-free. The UCC and Magnuson-Moss Act function in concert.
As for the “who’s going to cover attorney’s fees” question, about half of the states give you a chance to reimburse the attorney costs. If you bring in a suit under the Magnuson-Moss Act, in most states the manufacturer will repay you the attorney costs if you win the case. In some states, you will have to pay the manufacturer attorney’s fees, if you lose it.
As for the used and leased cars, it again depends on the state. Some includes these vehicles into the law, other have separate laws for them.
To prove that you have a lemon maker, you have to present the documentation, which clearly shows that you have taken your car to the repairs for “a reasonable amount of times” and it hasn’t been fixed. There should be dates, names of the dealer/manufacturer, a kind of defect and the entries made for the same defect should be identical. It can be a real fuss, and time and effort consumed to take an action to court. So try finding out as much about the vehicle you are going to buy as possible before you tear off a check.
The origin of SEO
We have been hearing a lot about SEO or the so called Search Engine Optimization. Have you ever thought were Search Engine Optimization started?
For the benefit of those people who are not yet familiar what Search Engine Optimization is, well here’s a description I got for you to give you few information’s regarding SEO. Search Engine Optimization is defined as a subset of the search engine marketing. It is a process of making improvements on the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via natural search results.
The SEO can target searches like the contextual search and local search and the industry-specific vertical search engines. Search engine optimization helps the internet users and visitors understand how search algorithms work and what internet users can search for, help them visit sites which make it interesting for them. Some search engine optimization helps in the optimizing of the site’s coding, their presentation and structures. It also fix problems that may keep search engine indexing programs from fully speeding a site’s also helps the content pages of the site to look more appealing to the users and visitors.
To make you more familiarize with the search engine optimization I’ll give you a brief history about the origin of the search engine and what is the relationship of Search Engines to Search Engine Optimization.
Well to start of the origin of search engines, in the mid 1990’s Webmasters and the content providers started optimizing their sites for the search engines. Before the responsibilities of webmasters is to submit a page or URI to other different engines which would send a spider to look a certain page, extract the links from the other pages and get the information’s found on the page to be ready for indexed. What the spider does is simply download a page where certain information’s will be stored on their own server where an indexer, known as second program extracts the information gathered. Time came that site owners are starting to recognize the importance of their site to be rank highly and visible in search engines. On the year of 1996 emails regarding SEO services were sent as spam which was posted at the Usenet.
Because of too much reliance on factors that are exclusively within the control of the webmasters early search engines started to suffer from manipulation of abuse ranking. Because of this site owners thought that they should think ways on how to provide better results to their users… Because of the high value and targeting of search results, a big potential for an adversial relationship between search engines and SEOs.
Then time came search engines also began reaching out to the SEO industry and are regular guests to the SEOs conferences, seminars and trainings. Then the rest was history.
Then in the year 2005 AirWeb, an annual conference was created to discuss certain issues about the damaging effects of web content providers who are known to be very aggressive. Because of these site owners and SEOs simply thought of ways or different techniques to improve their site for the users through the help they will get the domains which are banned from search engines.
SEO has the goal to give better results and reliable accurate information’s to their online users and visitor.
New Features in Google Sitemaps
The Google Sitemap program has brought a high level of assistance to web developers, web designers and business owners who want to optimize how their website’s web pages are seen by the Google search engine. We all know how important page ranking is for a web page. The higher your page rank in Google, the more chances that it will be clicked and visited by visitors. Increased internet traffic is what drives sales and awareness for products and services.
The Google Sitemap program has become very popular because it made the task of submitting web pages to Google so much easier. A web developer or designer does not even have to worry about making frequent changes to the web pages because it is more easily known by Google. By presenting a constantly fresh index of web pages for your web site you are assured that what is presented in Google is the latest pages that you are maintaining.
The very high popularity of Google Sitemap has encouraged Google’s team of engineers to develop and add more features to the program. These additions seek to make Google Sitemaps more intuitive and effective in its functions.
Google recently announced that it has again added a bevy of new features for the Google Sitemap program that just made certain aspects of the program so much easier to understand and maintain.
Here are the latest new features of the Google Sitemap program:
Query Stats. Knowing the top position of your website is important. With Google’s Query Stats, you will now know the top search queries where the results included your website as well as those that Google searchers actually clicked on. The position given is the average statistic posted over the last three weeks.
Top mobile search queries. Google acknowledges that there is a growing number of people who use mobile devices for browsing the internet and also consider it as a separate “demographic”. For this reason, the top mobile search queries feature shows web designers and developers the top search queries made from mobile devices in which the results showed their website. Web designers and web developers will see both the mobile searches of all web sites as well as the mobile searches of mobile-specific web sites. The results given by this feature will only appear if it is available in your web site. At this point of the development of this feature, Google only shows the top search queries and not the clicks made for those queries.
Downloading Sitemap details, statistics, and errors. Your Sitemap account now also contain additional information. You can now download information in the form of a comma separated value file. This type of file can be opened by using any text editor or spreadsheet program. You can decide to download the information on a per table basis, or you can opt to download Sitemap details, errors or statistics for all of the web sites in your Google Sitemaps account in one convenient file.
