Creating the Elusive “Lunchtime Facelift”

Last Updated: 2011/10/06

The “lunchtime facelift” has been the holy grail in plastic surgery for quite a while. The idea of providing facial rejuvenation with no downtime appeals to both plastic surgeons and patients. Get your treatment, look improved and freshened, and immediately go back to work, out on the town or, for some of our entertainment patients here in Beverly Hills, head over to the red carpet at an awards show. Who wouldn’t want to get their facial rejuvenation and then have no recovery?

Essentially all of the so called “no downtime facelifts” or “lunchtime facelifts” simply did not live up to their billing. As a plastic surgeon, I know that surgery involves recovery. It is just the way the body responds to a surgical procedure. Traditionally, if the body did not react to the procedure, nothing much was really done and few changes were visible when all was said and done.

But now we have many nonsurgical techniques that can create instant facial freshening — removing or smoothing wrinkles, plumping lips — with no recovery. Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra and other new products provide facial rejuvenation and do not create scars or undue swelling. They can help achieve that elusive goal of improvements without downtime. This is perhaps the biggest revolution in plastic surgery in thirty years.

These products work very differently. When we do Botox Beverly Hills we are using the medicine to paralyze some of the tiny muscles in the face. The twitching of these muscles creates a skin wrinkle on the skin that lies above it. If the muscles lay quietly, they do not tense and cause a wrinkle in the skin above.

Botox is extremely safe, its results are predictable, and it can create fantastic improvements in facial appearance. My sister recently had it for the first time, and it dramatically improved and freshened the look of her face – just like I have seen it do for countless other of my patients.

The we use Beverly Hills skin fillers skin fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm we work to provide bulk under the skin to fill in wrinkles from below. They are very effective for both small lines and larger ones, such as the nasolabial folds which run from the sides of the nose toward the outside edges of the side of the mouth and the so-called marionette lines that go along the side of the chin.

Each person’s face is different, so each person will do best with a different noninvasive treatment and nonsurgical skin rejuvenation. But the various procedures do provide fast changes with little or no recovery. Where in the past the “weekend facelift” was illusory, it is now possible to create dramatic changes without downtime.

The Power Of Freedom

Last Updated: 2011/10/06

Freedom is a word that is often used by people. I am free. But I find myself wondering much of the time if people really understand what being free really is. Freedom has nothing to do with what someone else tells you that you can or cannot do. Freedom is about having options for a solution to different situations. Imagine pulling up to a four way stop sign, at that moment you have the freedom to go four directions. You can go straight, right, left, sitting still, or turning around. Now imagine traveling down a narrow alley. At this point, you only have two options, keep going, or stop and sit still. Learning to recognize where you limit yourself and narrow your options is key in developing freedom for yourself.

Letting go of what we expect to happen can be a major step in developing freedom. Freedom really is a state of mind. The ability to recognize options as they present themselves as well as being ok with what happens can be essential in discovering freedom in your life. Know what you want out of your life, of course. You must know what you want, but you must also be ok with letting the universe deliver to you what you need to get to where you want to go. Let go of the exact way you think it has to happen and begin to recognize options. Begin to open your mind to the world around you. If you only have one option, you are nothing more than a machine. Machines do one thing, and that one thing depends on what they are programmed to do. If you have two options, you are at a point where you have a problem. This or that. Many times people limit themselves to one or two options and never realize that their are infinite options. The more options you create, the closer to freedom you get.

Let’s take a look at a common situation that many people tend to only see one or two options and never realize freedom because of it. Most people believe and are taught that the best way to make money in our society is to go find a good job. If they want more money, they limit themselves to two options. Find another job that pays more or get a part time job during their free time. What they don’t realize is that they have limited themselves. They only have a certain number of hours a week and can only make so much per hour. No matter how many jobs they get, their is a cap to their ability to earn. Unless they are in the top 3% of jobs that make millions of dollars they can never find financial freedom with this solution. They have limited their options because of their thinking and beliefs. What if instead they opened their minds to other options. They could start a part time business in their free time. They could start writing a book. They could begin to record music and mailing it out to companies. They could take a hobby they love and start doing it on the side to make some extra money. They could invest in stocks. They could do a million other things. So why don’t they? Because they have limited their options again.

Sometimes people do see these other options, but limit themselves once they are in that paradigm. They might realize that they can make money in stocks or start a business, but they limit their options again. Let us say for example that someone starts a lawn mowing business. They believe that cutting other peoples grass is the way to make more money, and it is in a lawn cutting business. But often times they fail to realize that they could pay high school kids a few bucks to go cuts lawns for them allowing them to cut five at a time instead of just one themselves. Or that there are other options than just cutting grass. They could plant grass for people. They could move into total landscaping. They could prune and trim trees. They could do a huge number of things involved with peoples yards. But by limiting their options to cutting grass, they again are unable to find the freedom that screams from within inside them. That is if they take action at all and are not frozen by the fear of possible failure.

Most people limit their options simply because they would rather stay where they are familiar with things but miserable than break outside those boundries and take a bit of a risk for the chance of success in return. Learn to chase your dreams no matter the cost and open up to the options that are there. If you simply begin to chase your dream, options will open up and show you the way. Many times we become attached to what we want to happen or the way we think it has to happen and we close ourselves off to other opportunities. We cling to one option and limit our freedom to that one thing having to be it. Nature does not work this way, so why should we. There are literally hundreds of species of trees. God didn’t make just one type of tree and hope that it worked. he made thousands of types of trees so that even if a few failed, there would still be thousands of others that could survive. There are literally thousands of types of insects and animals. There different types of water. Salt water, sulfur water, ice, fresh water, and hundreds of other types of water. All serving a purpose but allowing for options. If god works this way, why would we limit ourselves to one or two options and never open up to more. It seems much smarter to work as god would work and as nature would work and open ourselves up to other options.

The Place Where Success Lives

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

There is a place within each of us. A place where there is complete peace, and a connection to everything around us. Inside each and every one of us, hidden deep behind all the beliefs and ideas and perceptions of the world around us, there lays a spot that success lives. In this place, when we truly live there, everything flows as it needs to. Creativity connects with the world around us and understands all that it needs to understand. People who are successful at what they do live in this place. They breath this place. They are this place.

This place is within us all. We need to learn to get out of it’s way long enough for it to flow and come forth into the world. When we let it flow from us, when we are in touch with where we are and what we are doing, when this place opens up and the light that is within us begins to shine in the world, there is nothing we cannot do. There is nothing that is impossible or untouchable for us. This place knows all there is to know. This place within us has all it needs to accomplish what you want to accomplish. This place is all that you need to be. This is the place of success. When you connect with this place, it no longer becomes about success at all, but being in the moment and connecting with the creativity inside of you. It is about connecting with the universal force that flows through every single one of us.

As the greatest writers in history have done. As the most notorious of artists have known. As every great mind through out all of time has discovered, there is a place within each of us that strives to come forth and be heard. A place that longs to be seen. When you truly connect with yourself and the inner place of your being. When you find something you have a passion for accomplishing and doing. When you finally realize your place in the world, the place inside of you that needs no knowledge will open up. The place that needs no prompting will flow. This place is a beautiful place and expresses itself to the world in amazing ways.

So what is this place exactly? What does it look like? How do you find it and use it? This place is a spot inside of you that is rarely used. It is a place where you get out of the way, and let your true essence flow. A place where your mind no longer exists, but your inner beauty does. A place where you simply sit back at watch in awe at what you create. It as though you are looking through different eyes. As a writer puts his fingers on the keyboard and lets the thoughts just flow from him like water from a waterfall, this place lives in you and flows from you the same way. You must learn to open up to it. Learn to connect to the world around you. Feel the air as it enters your lungs. See the light as it enters your eyes. Smell the air as it passes through your nose. Feel life around you as it touches your skin. Connect with the universe at large as it touches your emotions and moves you. Let it move you as you see fit, and let it use your creativity to bring light to the world.

The hardest part of opening up to this place of success is getting out of your own way. We often want to use our heads to understand things or to create things. We want to force things to happen, and this is not at all where success lives. Success lives by a moment of inspiration that comes and hits us in a moments notice. Success lives in an idea that moves us to take action and spurs emotions in us that are incredible. Success lives in a place deep within each of us that wants to come out and play. It is the inner child in our heart that takes a pen and turns it into a million different tools or toys of entertainment. Success lives in a place that allows us to be a part of the world. A place that causes us to recognize beauty in the setting sun. A place that allows us to see innocence in the eyes of a child. In a place that causes us to love and feel and connect without any effort on our part.

Success lives in a place that allows us to truly feel and experience the world around us. A place of emotion and ideas. Not of emotional reaction to the crap around us, but of truly feeling like we are a part of something great, even if that great thing is our own creation. Not ideas that we muster up from within ourselves, but ideas that flow from a place within us in a way that we never even imagined possible. Ideas that amaze even us as we think them. Success lives in a place deep inside of you that you can connect with on a regular basis, if you let yourself. Watch someone who loves what they do. Watch them as they do it. They find a place that simply creates. A place that is not tainted by their concepts of the world or their emotional insecurities. A place that is untouched by their perceptions. A place that pure, and innocent deep within them. A place where creativity takes everything in the world around them and turns it into something new, something unique. Something amazing.

Life Is A Game That Can’t Be Won, Only Played.

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

We are all caught up in this game called life. There is no reset button. No way to shut it off and start over. There are no save points in this game. No go to pass and collect $200. There are rules however, and understanding these rules and the point of the game helps in the entire game of life. The rules are simple, enjoy the journey, and let go of trying to win. There are no winners, only players, some people play the game simply for the joy of the game. Others give up and wait for their turn to lay down forever. Others are lost in the middle. Learn to love the game, and play it with all your heart.

Life is a very serious game, and like all games there is an end. So many people are trying to win at the game of life, but what does winning mean? When does one know they have won at the game of life? The only victory that matters is the victory you choose for yourself. The only purpose of the game is the purpose you give yourself. There is no rule book out there telling us what the game is all about. There is nothing telling us what the game is all about. So the best we can do is play the game of life with all that we are, do as much as we can to find peace and happiness, and enjoy the game as we play it.

Take the time to find someone who does something they truly love. Maybe they make a handsome living at it, maybe not. The point isn’t how much they make or what they do. The point is the incredible joy they get out of just doing what they do. I had a mentor of mine give me an amazing insite to things once. When asked why he did what he did his response was simple: “I don’t do it because I want to help people live happier lives, because that is their responsibility and I don’t care what they do with it. I don’t do it because I want to be rich. I am, and my wealth will continue to grow as I help more people, but it’s not about the money. I simply get rewarded for doing the right things and helping people. I don’t do it because I care if people are successful or not, that’s not it at all. I don’t write because I want to entertain people, I don’t even like to type. I write because I love to create. If people get joy out of it great. If they are able to live better lives because of it that is great also, but I do it for me. I do it because it allows me to experience a place of joy. A peaceful place of creativity that allows me to connect with everything around me.” That opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing the world and the things I do in it.

So many people do things because they feel they have to for whatever reason. So many times people make decisions out of a fear of not having something or losing something else. Very rarely do people make a decisions simply because they would enjoy the journey of the path they choose. We all know people who are miserable at their job. They are miserable when they get home. They hate the people they work with and their spouse. They are never happy and haven’t smiled in years. We wonder if they even have the ability to laugh. Rarely though do we find people who truly enjoy the journey of life they are on. Far and few are the people who are playing the game of life with all they have. Taking risk to create something they feel is worthy and noble. Few are the people who give what they do everything they have, and find joy and pleasure out of it. Imagine laying your head down at night knowing that you just lived one more day full of fulfillment. Remember to give life everything you are, and everything you have. Enjoy the game as you play it. Play it because you get joy out of the game. Try not to focus so hard on trying to win. If at the end of the day you are proud of the person you are becoming, joyful of the decisions you make, and happy about the steps you have taken. If you can say that is true, and you make decisions that make it so, then you are truly playing the game of life for the joy of the game. Remember not to take life to seriously, after all, it’s only temporary

Focus Beyond Success

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

Many people get really anxious when studying for the exams such as the PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) and so their anxiety works against them. The reason that they are anxious is largely because of their fear of failure. We could say that their belief in the likelihood of their failure is stronger that their belief in their success. In order to find a way out of this mess, it helps to know a little of how the mind works.

Everybody wants to be successful. Of course it could be argued that some people obviously want to fail in life – but that means that they want to be successful in failing. And so when they eventually DO fail, they succeeded in achieving their life’s main goal. And that’s a level of success that few of us achieve.

When aiming for a goal, it is very important to concentrate on the successful outcomes of your task, rather than on the goal itself. For example, if you are studying for the PMP exam, you should focus on what you intend to do once you have your certification, rather than just on having letters after your name. You should concentrate on the benefits after the goal is achieved, because your energy ends where you have your focus (I’ll come back to this later).

For example, suppose you are playing soccer and you have to take a penalty kick.
If you concentrate really hard on taking the kick, you will become anxious and may kick the ball badly.

The trick is to imagine that you have just scored the winning goal. Imagine the crowd cheering — actually hear them in your mind — and hear them calling your name. Imagine how good the success feels, and how proud of yourself you feel. Imagine the other soccer players running up to you and hugging you and congratulating you.

If you do this, then you will relax and actually score the goal.

Because if you can truly make your mind believe that you can truly make something happen, then your mind will do all that it can to make it happen (this is explained by “expectancy theory”).

So if you say to someone “study hard, and try hard to pass the exam,” that is a waste of time because they are already doing that, and concentrating more on the problems will make them anxious and doubt their abilities.

It is much better to get them to focus beyond the end result. Tell them to think about how good they will feel when they pass the PMP exam. And how good it will feel, pinning on the little gold badge.

Tell them to imagine how wonderful and proud they will feel the first day they step back into their place of work as a PMP, to give the good news to their boss.

Tell them to imagine that they’re being interviewed in the future by a reporter from a big magazine, because the magazine wants to print a feature article on their successes.
Tell them to imagine how good it feels to be so successful in life.
Once they believe that, it will start to happen.

Your energy ends where you have your focus

Now, coming back to this statement. It sounds “New age”, but it’s not. A long time ago I practiced karate for a while. This is a very relaxing sport, which seems to be largely concerned with smashing things. I was trying to break wooden planks, but with no success.

My understanding of the “formula” was:

Strength + technique + tough hands = (whatever you like/don’t like) smashed to bits.

I had the strength and the tough hands; in fact I could hit the plank repeatedly without hurting myself too much, and the technique appeared to be right too.

But then, as a result of some research, I started really believing that I could break the plank.

So now my formula became:

Strength + belief + technique + tough hands = (whatever you like/don’t like) smashed to bits.

So I focused and my mental and physical energy on a single point on the plank (and pictured it breaking) then hit it really hard. But I still couldn’t break it.

Then some time later I met a really sweet girl, who had an incredible knack for smashing things, let me into her secret.
She said, “Your problem is that you are focusing on the plank, but that’s were your energy ENDS, because your energy ends where you have your focus. If you want to break the plank, you have to focus on a spot 6 inches BEHIND the plank.”

So once my focus (or goal) was to reach a spot behind the plank, my energy ended 6 inches behind the plank, rather than on it’s surface. I would like to say that I was able to smash the plank on my very next attempt. That was not the case, because I was still training my mind to accept the new focus. But only a few days later I was able to smash it.

And I would like to say that the girl and I developed a smashing relationship, but it was not to be, because her focus lay beyond me.

Jokes and Riddles – How To Write Them

Last Updated: 2011/10/05

Just listening to or reading jokes and riddles may “wake up” your brain, but it is creating them that really exercises your brainpower. The process requires you to use both logical and lateral thinking skills. How do you do it, then?

Jokes and riddle don’t come to mind randomly. In fact, after watching how many comedians create their routines, I am convinced that they use what I call “humor algorithms,” even if they do so unconsciously. You can learn to do the same, but consciously, and as an interesting brain exercise.

Joke And Riddle Algorithms

One systematic and creative humor algorithm involves starting with a word or a subject, and then fitting it into various joke and riddle “types.” For an example, I’ll start with “chair.” (I really am doing this as I write, so forgive the weak humor that is sure to result.)

The first thing I do is systematically think of all the types of chairs I can, and write them down. After that, I write down a few types of jokes, such as “puns,” “misdirection,” “differences,” and “similarities.” As I do this, it occurs to me that an electric chair might have the most potential for humor (all serious things do). Here is what I could come up with in thirteen minutes:

Differences: What is the difference between a toilet and a chair? I’m sorry, but if you don’t know, I can’t invite you over to my house!

Misdirection: Why did Charlie hate the chair they gave him for his birthday? Because they gave him the electric chair!

Similarities: What does my dog have in common with a chair? He has four legs and an IQ of zero.

Pun: Why did the customer at the motor vehicles department start rearranging seats after waiting for hours? Because he was the “chair-man of the bored.”

Writing humor isn’t necessarily easy, but it is great brain exercise. Whether it is easy or not, by using these “algorithms,” anyone can write jokes and riddles. Why not give it a try?

Dream Interpretation of Places in Your Dreams [Part 2]

Last Updated: 2011/10/03

In our waking life, we go to places for a reason. We go to the cinema to watch a film (and possibly to hold hands with our date), we go to the park to take the day off and play a ballgame with friends (or ogle good-looking people), we go to the beach to dig our toes in the sand and take a dip in the waters (or again, ogle good-looking people). There is always a reason, one way or another.

In these days of busy lifestyle, few of us waste time going to places where we have no business. Which is why we should be thankful that when we dream, we have the luxury of going to places we have never been before.

And, just as in our waking life, it follows then that the places we go to in our dreams have an underlying meaning as well. Below is part two of dream interpretations of venues you find yourself in during your sleep.

Desert
Ordinarily, deserts are barren and lonely places. In a dream, they imply a state of being lost and wanting to arrive home or be found. But the great spaciousness and emptiness of the desert landscape can also be beneficial; it signals a silence and meditation your life may be needing.

Airplane
Airplanes symbolize flight, freedom, and escape from the mundane. So if you dream of being in an airplane, whether or not you have a fear of heights, it just means you need to face those fears of the unknown and be thankful for their possibilities. If you dream of being the pilot, then this is a good sign: it is an undertaking and journey which you have taken complete control of.

Backyard
Backyards are fenced-in spaces outside our houses which we don’t want neighbors to see, or intruders to trespass. Thus, to dream of sweeping in a backyard, for instance, means you want to cleanse that part of you which you fear is laid bare to the public.

Bridge
Crossing a bridge means an inevitable transition in your life, a shift in lifestyle, belief, location, relationship, etc. Observe the sturdiness of the bridge, or if it shakes under your weight. Also, look at the water below if it’s calm or treacherous, or if it is an abyss instead. All these are signs of your readiness to cross over.

Church
Church are obviously holy places, which in a dream means you are reevaluating your life and want to lead a more spiritual one. Dreams of being inside a church always is a sign of good luck. An alternative interpretation is that you are questioning authority in your life, as churches and religion in general operate on authority.

Kitchen
Kitchens in dreams evoke either hunger, not just for physical nourishment, but spiritual as well. If you dream of yourself cooking in a kitchen, filling the room with a warm, inviting aroma, it just means you are taking an active role in your life.

Hell
We all have our personal versions of hell, and it does not necessarily have to be the commonly-thought of underground place with burning sulfur and demons with spears. If you dream of being in a hellish place, you could be feeling guilt from a sin you may have committed, or else, it is a premature punishment you are imposing on yourself, even if you haven’t really done anything wrong in the first place. Hell is a place of self-censorship, so take it easy on yourself.

Hospital
It depends whether you are the one confined in a hospital, or you are only visiting a sick friend. Hospitals in dreams are signs that make us aware of our mortality, and of course, our health. Also, a sense of authority and properness operates inside a hospital (uniforms, schedules, SOP’s, dosages, doctor’s orders, etc), and your little visit there in your dream implies a confrontation with authority you might be avoiding or looking forward to.

Field
Is it a barren field, or a lush green one? To dream of spacious fields imply a whole world of possibilities and potential for you, as if the ground is all prepared for new plantings. Then again, the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side” can also come into play here.

The Freedom Of Life That We All Deserve.

Last Updated: 2011/10/03

I was driving home earlier today when I noticed a flock of birds flying over head. As gracefully as a ballerina gliding across the dance floor, they soared high in the sky. Catching the wind currents as easily as a professional baseball player catches a fly ball. They were beautiful against the gorgeous gentle blue of the sky. In a moment I caught a glimpse of what true freedom is. What it is like to be able to soar high. To not be bound by gravity, or rules made up by other people, or limited to the simple thinking that so many people settle for. In a single moment, my heart was lifted and my spirit began to soar.

I spent the rest of my journey home with a big smile on my face because I knew that everything in my life would be ok, and be perfect just as it is. As it will be. That there is an incredibly benevolent force that wants us to realize true freedom in this lifetime. That wants us to know what happiness and peace are. That it doesn’t matter how long our life is or how many years we have, but the quality of those years. To breathe deeply and truly smell the air. To open our eyes and really see every tree as if it were the first time. To feel the sun on our face and the wind on our skin. To taste water, and the gentle kiss of someone who moves our heart in ways that we have never imagined before. To love those we care about and to know that every single moment is ours to do with as we wish, and that freedom, is using those moments to find a place inside ourselves that is complete happiness and peace.

So many people in this world limit themselves and never allow themselves to experience true freedom. Their hearts cling to things that are no good for them or only cause them pain. Their souls cling to stuff that only causes them more sorrow and pain. True freedom is not about laws, or rules, or regulations made by other people. True freedom is about what lies within us. It is about expression in a world that is full of people who want to stiffle our ability to think and to grow. It is about finding peace and happiness inside ourselves in a world that is so full of chaos. Be sure to watch a child and recognize what true innocence looks like. Remember to smell a flower and recognize what heaven smells like. Take the time to look at something beautiful so that you remember what the angels look like. Take the time to breathe deeply and take life in. Remember to find your own freedom.

In the day to day grind of life, things can get very overwhelming and it can sometimes feel as though the weight of the world is sitting on our shoulders. Bills to pay and work to be done. Stuff that has to get finished and places to be at specific times. So much to do and so little time to finish it all. Even in the chaos. In the struggle of every day life, take the time to pause, even if just for a moment, and feel the true beauty of being alive. Take the time to smile and enjoy the experience of life. True freedom comes from not being bound by the everyday things. By being in the world but not of it. Be in the world, but don’t let it make you a part of it.

The Mistaken Have, Do, Be.

Last Updated: 2011/10/02

I look around at people in the world and I am amazed how people give themselves value. This person has a piece of paper that gives them a title, and that title becomes who they are. This guy over here buys a car, and associates that car with who he is and treats it as though it is the most precious thing on the planet and that he will be damaged if the car is damaged. I watch another person fall in love and put their entire identity into that other person as well as their happiness and joy. It makes me sad to see people and their inability to recognize their own value. It makes me sad to see people put their own value and happiness and sense of self into things that are destined to fall apart and fade instead of themselves.

Many people have this perception of have do be. They believe that what they have is based upon what they do. They can have this house instead of that one because they do this and make a certain amount of money. This is some what true because of a limit on income, however, the place that they go wrong is in the fact that they then base their own self worth on those things. They have this because they do that, and those two combined must be who they are. I live in a $75,000 house because I am a roofer and only make $11.00 an hour so therefore I am a poor roofer who works hard and barely gets by. This is so far from the way things should be. It is not what we do or have that establishes who we are, but who we are that establishes the other two.

We must learn to come at things from a be, do, have mindset. We must take the time to get to know ourselves. We must first be, then we can do and have.Who we are dictates what we do because what we do is an expression of the person we have become. It fulfills us because it is a part of who we are, not something that decides who we are. It is an expression to the world of what we represent. It is something that creates joy and happiness in our lives because it allows us to use our creativity and expression. That then dictates what we have, and if what we have is very little because we make very little at what we do then it becomes ok because we do not tie our identity to those things. We are ok with having little because we are doing it from a place of being instead of taking the things we have and allowing that to create our perception of who we are. We must always come from a place of be, do, then have.

The more you are able to recognize who you are, and who you are not, the more you will be able to find a place in the world that feels like home. Myself, I am an expressive person who loves to learn, and loves to share that information with people. Especially in the world of personal development and growth. So my natural place in the world is in writing books and articles and in expressing myself through words and knowledge. How well I do that will dictate how much I have and what I have. Mother Teresa knew who she was. A caring person who loved people unconditionally. That caused her to find a place in the world, the Catholic Church, where she was able to help as many people as possible live happier lives. That dictated what she had, which was very little, but she was ok with that because of what she was doing in the world. It wasn’t at all that she was unable to find money. She was actually very good at getting funding for people in deprived parts of the world. She literally raised millions of dollars and used it to help people. So the real question doesn’t come down to what you want out of life or what you plan on doing to get it. Instead, you need to ask who you are. What is your be? The Unknown Unknown.

Last Updated: 2011/10/02

One of the biggest problems for people with the law of attraction and creating a life that is everything they desire it to be are those things that people don’t know they don’t know. It is those things that we have no idea exist that often get in our way. How are we to stop things from getting in our way if we can’t even see it. How are we to fix things we don’t know are broken. The key is to bring those things into your world that you don’t know you don’t know. The more you are able to expand your world, the more you will have to work with. The more you have to work with, the more options you have and the better your chances of success at anything you do are.

We all know the saying that the more you know the more you know you don’t know. It’s almost as though we get more stupid the more we learn because for every one thing we learn there are three more things we realize we have no idea about. Luckily it is possible for us to learn more than enough to get to where we want to go. The key is to make sure that the things we are studying and learning about are things that will serve us and help us get to where it is we want to head. A mechanic needs to study what makes a car tick. The parts of a car and how they work together to create a machine that moves along gracefully. Learning how to make a carrot cake would do very little for a mechanic in the shop. He must learn the tricks of the trade for a mechanic. The real key is to learn what you must know in order to get to where you want to go, and often times, what you need to know, is rarely what you think you need to study.

There are three areas of knowledge, basically. There is the realm of the known. These are the things that we know we know. We know that we know how to talk, how to walk, how to think. This is the realm of the things we know we know. We know how to do our job, whatever our profession may be. We know how to drive, if you drive. We know what we know and we are ok with what we know. There is the realm of what we know we don’t know. For example, you probably don’t know how to speak Russian. The realm of known unknown is simple. You know you don’t know it and you make a decision on whether or not it is something that is valuable enough for you to learn. If you see no value in it, you take no action. If you do see value in it, you must take action or you will have a part of you that nags and wishes you would have taken action.

The third realm is the realm I really want to touch upon here. This is the realm of the unknown unknown. These are the things you don’t even know you don’t know. For example, you most likely don’t know that there is a special posture in a japanese martial art called ninpo taijutsu that involves connecting with an attacker and heaven and allowing god to use you as a vessel as you remove yourself from the situation and allow the heavens to deal justice to this person heaven sees fit. That is a mouthfull, but you get my point. It is essential to bring the realm of the unknown unknown into the realm of the known unknown. The majority of the information and stuff in the world is in your realm of uknown unknown. These are the things you have no idea you don’t know you don’t know. Until you move the things you don’t know you don’t know into the realm of the things you know you don’t know, you can’t do anything about it.

Learn to break outside of your comfort zones and learn about things that might other wise make you feel a little bit uncomfortable. As long as you stay in your safe and comfortable zones you will unlikely bring anything from the unknown unknown into your reality. The places that the answers you need lie in places you have yet to look. If not, you would have already found them. Often times, the answers are right under our noses. The problem is that we haven’t learned to see them. We haven’t learned to recognize them. So to us, they are invisible and unseen. We must learn to see them from new eyes with a new mind in a different light. Bring as much as you can from the realm of the unknown unknown into the realm of the known unknown. Then you can do something with them, and true magic will begin to shape itself right in front of your eyes.

The Power Of Abundance.

Last Updated: 2011/10/01

One of the hardest things to develop when working with the law of attraction and creating a life that is everything you desire it to be is this concept of abundance. Many people have a very difficult time seeing everything as though there is more than enough to go around, especially when the circumstances in their life says other wise. Not to mention the fact that there are things we may not even recognize as mindsets or thoughts of lack. How is one to live in abundance and by the law of attraction when there are things we can’t even see. When there are things we don’t know that we don’t know. The answer… the best we can.

Nature and god do not live in a world of lack. Everything in the world that god created is created in abundance. There is more than enough water for every person on the planet. There is more than enough food for every living creature. There is more than enough air and warmth and sunshine. There is no such thing as lack in nature. So why, as humans, do we tend to see things as though there isn’t enough? The answer to this question evades me, but I do know that living a life being able to see abundance in everything is much more rewarding than living in a world where all I see is lack. To attract the things we want to us, to have all the things we want, to live a life that we desire to live, we must learn to see abundance in everything.

Many times, if we are not careful, we can easily slip from our ability to see abundance. Anytime we do not see that there is enough, we are slipping. Money is an area that this is extremely easy. If you find yourself clipping coupons, you are not living in a mindset of abundance. If you find yourself gripping about the gas prices, you are not living in a world of abundance. If you think that seven dollars is to much to pay for information that will help you move forward and create the life of your dreams, you are not living in a world of abundance. Now I am not saying that you should blow your money unwisely or buy the most expensive stuff at the store or not save money when you can. What I am saying is that if you are spending time trying to figure out how to save money or questioning whether or not you have the money to spend, you are coming from a mindset of lack.

We must learn to recognize value in things and that we will always get a return on our investment if we come from a mindset of abundance. Instead of clipping coupons to save a few cents, see yourself receiving a dollar for every fifty cents spent. Instead of seeing how expensive gas is, imagine yourself getting ten times what you spend on gas in return for buying it. Recognize that there is more than enough fuel for everyone out there no matter the price and that every dime you spend you get a quarter in return. Instead of thinking that the book you are thinking about buying is too expensive, recognize that it will give you a return that is far more valuable than you can see right now. Begin to see things from a perspective of abundance. I know people who download books from the internet instead of going to the website of the person who created it and buying it. I find that these very same people continue to struggle no matter how many books they buy because they have not made the shift to the mindset of abundance. If they would just spend the couple of dollars, they might be amazed at the return they get, and how much better they would feel. Remember, we were created in a world of abundance, it is only our limited thinking that sees things in a way that they really are not.

The Importance of Maintaining a Professional Image on Social Networking Sites

Last Updated: 2011/09/14

With the recent growth of social networking sites such as My Space and Facebook, online self expression has become the latest trend. Many individuals dedicate countless hours, days, and even months trying to create social networking pages that give outsiders a bird’s eye view of their thoughts and personal beliefs. While on one hand, social networking sites can be used to promote a positive cause or professional business, too much of a good thing can be detrimental to one’s career and professional image.

Gone are the days when social networking meant exactly what it stands for. These days, social networking sites can be used to promote professional businesses, organizations, and other causes. Members of these sites have also begun creating pages that contain pornographic pictures and other offensive imaging. If you are 18-20 years old and a member of the, “Girls Gone Wild” group, it may be fun for now, but what about your future? For example, a recent news story describes how a police officer was fired because of offensive imaging on his, My Space page, which consisted of pictures of women being tortured in a satanistic manner. Although, these social networking sites take preventative measures, it is still up to the individual to take responsibility for themselves and the images and content that they post on their webpages. In this particular case, this is especially true because of the type of value system and beliefs, police officers in the local community strive to represent. A police’s professional image plays a huge role in the public’s opinion of that individual and the police department.

The same holds true for other professional companies and organizations. In order to prevent being embarrassed by prospective employees, employers have begun doing background checks on these individuals. Many employers have refused to hire individuals that post offensive pictures and other material on their personal webpages. While some critics disagree, the reasoning is simple: employees are apart of the organization, therefore, employees represent the organization. This not only applies during work hours but after work as well. When an employee working for a major company embarrasses themselves, by disgracing themselves in public, it is also embarrassing for the company or any other organizations that individual is associated with.

How can this be avoided? As an individual, it is always important to remember the importance of a good reputation. It is said, that it takes years to build a good reputation and only moments to ruin it. Credibility and reliability are key aspects of building a good reputation. Understanding the importance of weighing the consequences of our decisions and considering our long term goals is especially important when trying to project a professional image. The solution is simple, when creating personal webpages, think of the consequences that may result from posting images that may be offensive to others. No one wants to lose the opportunity of a life time because of pictures from their spring break in college. Before you post these images consider your future and how others will view you as an individual and a professional.

The Hierarchy Of Needs Part 2

Last Updated: 2011/09/14

There are five basic needs that have to be taken care of in life. These basic needs have to be
taken care of in order for anyone to get to a point where they are able to truly express themselves
in life and feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The four lower level needs are basic daily
survival. Not taking care of these needs will force us to put more energy and time into them than is
necessary. Though the needs are broken down as seperate entities, they are interconnected. Each
higher need is connected to the needs below it, and not properly taking care of a lower need will
cause a need to back track. The five needs are physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and
self-actualization.

The first on the list is physiological. This is basic day to day survival and includes things such
as food, sex, breathing, water, and sleep. These are the most basic of needs for every human.
We all know what happens if we don’t eat or drink water. We also know what happens if
we don’t breathe or get proper rest. This one is a given for many people. We all know that
these needs need to be taken care of, and we also know what happens when they are not
taken care of.

Though this is a no brainer, there are some things that need to be discussed. As mentioned,
we all know we need to eat, drink, sleep and breathe. But many people tend to jump past this
basic level off needs to the other levels leaving this area alone. Many people also put very little
thought into this area of need. There is more to it than just food, water, sleep, and breathing.

We must make sure that we have proper food, water and sleep. Take the time to do some
research on food and diets. This effects our energy on a regular basis. Not having a proper
diet can lead to poor health and very poor energy. To much fat or sugar in a diet drains the
body of energy and over time causes us to need more sleep. Learning to drink more water
instead of the killer acids of coffee and soda are a good beginning. Also learning to replace
what sugars are being taken into the body with natural sugars help change the energy
patterns of the body. Sugars such as equal and sweet and low are major energy drainers.

Being sure to take in at least eight cups of water a day is essential. Very few people drink
water on a regular basis let alone the correct amount of water. Water is a basic requirement
for our body to function properly. It is the balance between salts and water in our body that
allows our brains to function properly at full capacity. This combination of salt water in our
body is also responsible for the flow of electricity and chemicals through out the body.

The first thing to be done is a little bit of research on how foods effect our bodies. Then, take
the time to put an exercise and diet into your daily life that will give you more energy. This allows
you to sleep less and feel more rested. Our diet and the food and water we take into our body
directly effects our daily lives and how well our body functions. Taking care to eat a proper
diet gives us more energy which allows us to go longer and harder toward acquiring our goals.

In the next part of this series, we will be discussing basic survival. However, if you are not
taking proper care of your body already, that is where you need to begin. Without taking care
of your diet and maintaining a good balance inside, learning to keep your body safe on the outside
is pointless. Safety can only happen on the outside once balance and health have been created on the
inside.

The Hierarchy Of Needs Part 3

The second need on the list is security. After we have taken care of a proper diet,
proper sleep, and making sure we maintain a good energy level within our body,
we can move onto the next need of security. Again, if you haven’t taken care of your
body from the inside, learning to take care of it and maintain security is pointless.
Be sure to start with a good diet and exercise program.

Security is the second on the list of needs. This includes things such as security of
body, of employment, of resources, of property, and of family. This need is about not
only acquiring these things, but keeping them from harm and in our own possession.
Of course we already possess our body, but we also need to make sure we are
securing a lucrative occupation, the safety of our family and loved ones, material
possessions that allows us to feel a sense of accomplishment, and other resources.

The first of these is security of body. Depending on where one lives, this is much
more pressing than in other areas of the world. Even if you live in a location that has
a low crime rate and is fairly safe, you cannot totally ignore your own safety. Many people
have the illusion that police keep us safe, and this is not the case. This is not to say that
they are useless, however, 99% of the time the police chase criminals after a crime has
taken place. Much more often than not, a crime happens without a police officer even knowing
about it happening, let alone being able to stop it or prevent it.

The best course of action that anyone can take is learning a martial art that is focused on
self defense and can teach you how to deal with dangerous people and situations. It is also
a good idea for the family to get involved also as you will not always be there to protect your
significant other or children. The worst time to wish you would have taken this advice is
when someone has a gun in your face. Especially if you live in an area that has a low crime
rate, there is no guaruntee that you will not be the one attacked when something does happen.
There is also no guarantee that your family members will not be the ones attacked.

We also need to be sure that we have an occupation that allows us to grow financially. Sadly,
money is the currency of the world and nothing gets done without it. Since this is the case,
and these are the rules, we must understand the rules well enough to be able to grow and
advance. This is not to say that you need to be filthy stinking rich, though that would certainly
open up many more doors and opportunites for you. One simply needs to be sure they have
chosen an occupation that allows them to maintain shelter and other necessary resources for
daily survival. One also needs to make sure that they have enough finances coming in that
they are able to take care of themselves or family in case of an emergency. Far to many
people live paycheck to paycheck because of poor money management or not having
learned enough about money to be able to earn more.

Other resources that are important for one to be able to maintain basic security are transportation,
recreation, and knowledge. Without the ability to get around, maintaining a job is all but impossible.
Obviously, if you can’t show up for work, your employer won’t keep you for very long. It is also
important to be able to afford some form of recreation. As they say, all work and no play just makes
for a dull day. It is also important to continue ones education. Often times, this too costs money, even
if it is as simple as new books to read and study.

In the next part of this series we will be discussing love and belonging. Though it is possible to find
someone to love without taking care of security, it can be very challenging and difficult. Money is
one of the biggest reasons for divorce and arguments in many relationships. It’s also difficult to get
out and meet new people if your bed ridden because of an attack on your person. Not to mention the
fact that there is little energy left to chase after someone you like if you have all your attention on
where your next meal is coming from or where you plan on sleeping that night.

Hardy annuals are beautiful plants that will produce flowers even in the cold wintertime season.
