Maine Sailing Vacations
Sailing on the coast of Maine is a unique experience. Sailing here is also called as windjamming. Windjamming is done on board special crafts called schooners that are bigger than yachts, having more than two masts. Schooners glide noiselessly along the water due to their larger mast area. Maine has about 14 schooners, all of which are occupied by people over the peak season. Some of the more famous schooners are the Victory Chimes, Timberwind, J. and E. Riggin and the Mary Day among others.
Schooners were originally designed to transport cargo. Hence, they are spacious. They can accommodate 6 to 40 people including the crew and the deckhand. No prior knowledge is required before boarding a schooner. In fact, if you are enthusiastic enough, the crew would like to teach one or two tricks, thus making the sailing more exciting. Schooners don’t allow very young children; hence it is necessary to check with them beforehand.
The beauty of the Maine coast lies in the various islands that dot its coastline. Most of the islands are deserted. Windjammers anchor their schooners here and spend whole afternoons exploring their beaches. Other islands are tiny fishing villages where people sustain on handicrafts apart from fishing. Windjammers find it quite charming to interact with these natives, learn about their quaint customs and even buy a couple of their artifacts. Sailing along the Maine reveals new experiences each day. The entire sailing vacation lasts roughly a week.
When on board, the daytime is spent glued to the binoculars and observing elusive sea sights. Windjammers can see tortoises, porpoises and even whales surfacing out of the water. Apart from the sights, one important aspect of Maine windjamming is building camaraderie and lasting friendships with people aboard the schooner. Schooners also provide poke boats to people with which they can go individually to smaller inaccessible places along the coasts. Food may be on some beach or even on deck. During nighttimes, the schooner may be anchored on one of the islands and people may enjoy a campfire, or remain sailing and admire the beauty of the night of stars.
Maine windjamming is an experience unlike any other. As schooners are wind-driven, each cruise along the coast of the Maine will be different. There is always something for everyone to do on board. It is an ideal location for family and office get-togethers. A week aboard a Maine windjammer could cost approximately $1000.
Timeshare Resorts
Timeshare resorts are a good option for people who want a luxurious vacation for a low price. Over the past decade, many major hotel chains have expanded into the timeshare market. In the mid 1980s, the renowned Marriott resort broke into the U.S. market, followed by Disney in 1991. Then came the really posh hotels like the Four Seasons resort and Ritz-Carlton chains, followed by exchange companies like Interval International and Resort Condominiums Inc.
Marriott is the most successful timeshare resort. Every other year, the timeshare owners of Marriott have the right to skip their visits to earn points that they can use at other Marriott hotels worldwide or swap with the timeshare owners of Interval International. Prices for a one-week ownership in this resort ranges from $9,000 to $51,900, depending on the resort and season with the annual fees ranging from $350 to $500.
The Walt Disney World timeshare resort is based mostly on the point system. Timeshare owners can use their vacation benefits in any of the five branches of the resort worldwide. If a family earns 230 points, they can stay for a week in the resort. Annual fees range from $475 to $600 for entry-level packages.
At the Four Seasons, a one-week stay in a 1,670-square-foot, two-bedroom villa costs $39,900 during the peak season in Scottsdale, plus an annual maintenance fee of $1,084.
The Hilton Grand Vacations Club operates 20 time-share resorts. Prices at these resorts start at $15,900 a week with an annual fee of about $600.
Many timeshare resorts are located in Egypt, which has a large services industry that is well equipped to handle the large number of tourists. The United States has the second largest number of timeshare resorts in the world.
Caribbean Vacations
More commonly known as the West Indies, the Caribbean region is a group of islands bordering the Caribbean Sea. The 7,000 islands found in this region are classified and grouped under the heads of sovereign states, dependencies and overseas departments.
The Caribbean is sometimes treated as part of North America, and comprises the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles. Since ancient times, the Caribbean region was notorious for sea pirates.
The place
There are many large and small islands and coves in this region. The most popular Caribbean destinations are Bahamas, Jamaica at Dominican Republic, Aruba, Nassau, San Juan and St. Maarten.
There is more to the Caribbean region than just the soft, sandy beaches. Coconut and palm trees are a common sight on almost all the islands. There is an ancient culture, rich in music and dance. There are wonderful gifts of nature to be enjoyed – gardens, exotic range of flora and fauna, and rich food, too.
You can spend a suitable time visiting the region, based on your area of interest. There are a few extraordinary natural phenomena, like the phosphorescent lake in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Regarding flora, there are some species which grow in unique colors. There are many species of medicinal plants grown for Therapeutic use.
Food and fun
What is a vacation without music and dance? Indeed, the Caribbean people are talented when it comes to setting up new tunes and rhythms. The carnival reflects the people’s love for music and entertainment. You can hardly resist the temptation to dance upon hearing the music!
Food is an important aspect of a vacation spot. The Caribbean cuisine is no doubt delicious, but it is also heavy, with starchy vegetables, spices and fruits. This might be something to watch out for!
Among the vacation activities, the best option available to you is sailing. You can travel through the islands using either self-propelled boats or crewed yachts. There are a lot of attractions that you can explore and enjoy. There are also small cruise ships available. You can engage in scuba diving to discover the beauty hidden beneath the waters.
There are several good golf courses, though they are sometimes expensive. The Caribbean is an ideal setting for sports, especially water-sports. You can go fishing both in the shallow waters and offshore.
There are rainforests rich in rare flora and fauna. You can go hiking in these forests and experience the adventures.
On the whole, a Caribbean vacation will be something to cherish for a lifetime!
Timeshares
In the present unstable economic times, many investors are looking for ways to diversify their portfolio so that risk can be distributed among different investments. One of the best investment options is timesharing, which will serve as both as a holiday vacation package and real estate asset.
The timeshare industry first was originated in Europe in the 1960′s. Timeshares, also known as “vacation ownership”, “holiday ownership”, and “interval ownership”, are forms of ownership whereby a group of people share the use of a property by dividing rights into specific lengths of time that can range from five to over 20 years. This means the buyers can use the property for certain period every year for the duration of the contract.
This program applies to condos, campgrounds, recreational vehicles, boats, planes, luxury cars, and cruises. Timeshares allow owners to purchase a fraction of the vacation property of a trust that owns several holiday resorts. The buyers of timeshares have to pay a lump-sum amount for owning the holiday package and a prescribed annual fee for cleaning, insurance, and local fees. They can even exchange their timeshares of one resort with others within the same timeshare organizations by paying an exchange fee.
People looking to buy a timeshare have to keep several factors in mind, including location, price, flexibility, and their lifestyle and recreational preferences while purchasing timeshares.
At present, the timeshare industry includes nearly 6,000 resorts worldwide like Walt Disney World, Marriott, and the Four Seasons with timeshares sold to almost 7 million families. This particular industry is generating around $9 billion annually. The modern timeshare industry is expanding with new franchises of timeshare companies and condo hotels in Europe, Asia and the U.S. Timeshares are an inexpensive way to own and enjoy prime real estate.
Destinations for your next Family Vacation Getaway
When planning a family vacation getaway, the choices can be overwhelming. What should you do? Where should you go? To make life easier, these questions should be answered before you start planning. Let’s take a few minutes and help you answer these questions before you get started with the planning.
What Should You Do?
How does skiing fresh powder of Vail’s Blue Sky Basin, or relaxing in the white sand of Hawaii’s beaches and hitting a hole in one at one of Myrtle Beach’s many golf courses sound to you? Ski, beach and golf vacations are great choices for families.
Skiing Vacations
Many resorts offer a plethora of activities for you and your family. While you are skiing fresh powder, your children can be supervised by a certified ski instructor while enrolled in ski school. After that lesson, you can meet up with them and they will be happy to show you what they learned. When the day ends, be sure to explore the town. Ski towns are notorious for some of the best shopping and fine dining. If you want to take a day off from skiing to catch your breath, try ice skating, toboggan runs or just sit by a fire with a good book. When it comes time to plan a ski vacation, try to plan at least 5 to 6 months ahead of time. This is when you can find the best deals and you shouldn’t have to worry about the hotel you want to stay in, completely booked. I have found that a little research goes a long way. After you choose your hotel, see if they have any packages or specials available. Most of the time hotels and resorts will offer a bit of a discount on lift tickets and other activities. If a special or package is not available, make sure to buy your lift tickets in bulk to save some money. Try to buy a 3 or 4 day pass versus buying individual tickets each day. Often times, these lift tickets will be good for more than 1 resort in the area.
Ski Vacation Destinations.
The Rocky Mountains of Colorado offer many good resorts to choose from. Some favorites include Telluride, Vail and Breckenridge. Telluride Ski Resort was built in the 1970′s and along with it came cultural events, festivals, music and more. People come to this town year after year for the wonderful skiing and other fun activities.
If skiing is what you are all about, Vail is the place to go! It has just been named number 1 for the 14th time in 19 years in Ski Magazines “Top 50 Resort Guide”. Vail offers world class skiing, fabulous nightlife and many fine dining options.
Breckenridge is a 147 year old Victorian town. People flocked to this town in the 1800′s in search of riches in the form of gold. Now this town is a haven for skiers of all types. This town offers many activities for families and travelers.
Beach Vacations
Beach resorts can be perfect for your next family vacation getaway. Some of the best resorts are in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.
Mexico
Los Cabos is one of Mexico’s most popular vacation destinations. It is located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Los Cabos features luxury hotels, championship golf courses and some of the best sport fishing in the world. Other activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking and much more.
The Caribbean
The Cayman Islands offer many things for many people. 99% of the travelers visit Grand Cayman Island. It is easy to see why people go here. Of the islands this island offers the most when it comes to resorts and hotels. The fabulous snorkeling and scuba diving is not to be missed. When diving, you will think you are in a pet shop aquarium. The fish are abundant and the stingrays are gentle and fun to watch. If time permits, rent a Jeep and cruise around the Island.
Hawaii
Hawaii offers many choices for the traveling family. Each island is unique and offers something for everyone. Kauai is less touristy but still offers much to do. The surfing and snorkeling are not to be missed. Be sure to take a day and drive up to Waimea Canyon. This canyon offers many photo opportunities, and spots to get out and hike near beautiful waterfalls. Maui offers white sand beaches perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. Maui also offers great sightseeing and wonderful shopping. Of the islands, Hawaii, also known as “The Big Island” is the largest. Here you can visit the only active volcanoes of the Hawaiian Islands. You will also find wonderful resorts, pristine beaches, great nightlife, fine dining and shopping.
Golf Vacations
Right about now, you may be thinking “How can a golf vacation be good for my whole family?” Well, many golf resorts offer more than just golf. While you are out hitting the lynx, your family can be enjoying a beach, pool, or shopping. When you are done on the course you can meet up and head to one of the many fine dining establishments near your resort. Many golf vacations can be combined with a beach getaway. Mexico, Hawaii and the United States offer some of the best golf near some of the best beaches. These resorts offer many different specials and packages that can be tailored to fit your specific wishes.
Whatever your next vacation entails for you, you will not be disappointed with any one of the recommendations above. Be sure to see all you can see. The bottom line is to enjoy yourself and relax!

Greece Sailing Vacations
The mythological and historical significance of Greece provides a distinct charm to Greek sailing vacations. One can visit the ancient islands in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea. There are the groups of islands such as the Dodecanese, the Cyclades and the Sporades, all brimming with old-world charm. Sailors can also cruise along the coasts of Crete and Turkey. The Greek coast is famed for its clear blue waters, clear sky, the enchanting Mediterranean climate and rare sights of whales, porpoises and friendly dolphins.
There are many options to sail on the coastline of Greece. You can hire a bareboat. Bareboats provide great privacy, but you will have to do the navigating and the rowing yourself. If you are not very confident of yourself, then you can hire a skipper, who is a hired captain to guide you through the waters. Flotillas are also available, in which several boats follow one leading ship. But flotillas follow a set itinerary and that could get boring at times. People who go sailing along the Greek coasts can also hire their traditional boats – the gulets and the caiques. These are small wooden craft that accommodate a less number of people. Yachts and catamarans are also available for bigger groups.
Greek islands lie in the Ionian and the Aegean seas. Corfu and Lefkas in the Ionian Sea are favorites among sailors. There is also the historically famous Ithaca, the island of Ulysses. The islands in the Aegean Sea are divided into the Cyclades, Dodecanese and the Sporades. Cyclade islands such as Kea, Mykanos and Santorini are specially known for the red sun in the blue sky during sunset due to the presence of a volcano. Dodecanese islands boast of Patmos, where St. John wrote about the Apocalypse nine centuries ago. Sailing in the Greek seas is a unique experience that is enveloped both in myth and beauty.
Daytimes are spent sailing in the open seas and exploring the beautiful islands. During nighttimes, there are several island resorts to welcome sailors. One can visit their taverns, with local wine and dance.
A Greek sailing vacation is not as expensive as in some other locations. The peak season begins from March and continues up to November. Even after that, there are sailors plying their boats along the Aegean and the Ionian.
7 Ways To Make Your Cruise Vacation Planning Easier
Did you know that… a big part of having the perfect cruise vacations is thanks to great planning?
Planning is very boring to most people. Everyone of us wish we had a magical wand to just make our cruise vacations happen. When we start planning we might end up stuck in details, about food, activities and such, that we often forget the most important issues to keep in mind. I will share here seven ways you can make cruise vacation planning easier by just applying them when you are writing down your vacation’s plan.
Set aside some extra money. – You have your budget for the cruise vacations; however things are rarely 100% perfect. You should also have in the budget enough extra money not only for buying souvenirs at ports, but also if any emergency occurs. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Include your documents. - Just imagine this: you’ve already arrived to the port, along with your luggage and your sunglasses ready to have the time of your life, then you reach for your pocket just to find out you are not carrying the required documents.
Yes, things like this do happen, and the best way to avoid them is include them in a checklist. You can call it “Requirements checklist” and list every document you need to board the cruise.
Arriving date should be a day early.-This is even more important if you live far from the port, and planning to get there in car. Even if you’re planning to get there on a plane, weather changes can delay the flight. I once suffered this, and had to buy another plane ticket to board on the first cruise destination after the ship set sail.
If you’re expecting a baby, get a note form the doctor. You may not know this but cruise lines consider pregnancy as a medical condition. They need to make sure everything is going to be fine once you’re inside the cruise.
You won’t be able to board a cruise if you are on an advanced phase, so be sure to check that out.
Read all the fine prints. -Just because those words are very small doesn’t mean they’re not important. These words in fact mostly contain conditions, for not so common situations. Take for example the case above, or the situation of two underage people travelling alone.
Just by reading them you’re sure to save you some headaches.
Pack everything the right way. Packing can be described as an art. But it is also a necessity when travelling, avoid having too much luggage, instead aim for a great packing that lets you fit everything without using much space. Mix clothing if you’re not travelling alone, in case one of the cases is delayed, or something happens, and secure them tightly with duct tape.
And – don’t forget to write your name on them.
Talk with your travel agency. If you have any doubts, no matter what silly they sound to you, just write them down, and talk to your travel agent. Travel agents, and consultants are there to help you make your vacations a dream, and that’s what you’re paying them for.
A professional agent will walk with you along your cruise vacation planning process, to ensure you will be fully satisfied.
If you follow these simple suggestions, you’re a lot closer your dream cruise vacations. Don’t take planning as a less important aspect of your vacation, or who knows, maybe you’ll end having no vacations at all! There’s more plenty of information available online that will help you in. You can do it too!
It’s all about having fun in the end. Who says planning can’t be fun?

Great Things You Can Do On Your Caribbean Honeymoon Vacation
Honeymooners who head to the Caribbean can expect to find a tremendous amount of activities. Most of the fun in the Caribbean involves the sea in one way or the other. After all, who resist the soothing sound of the waves rushing to shore? In addition to the beauty of the sandy beaches, the islands offer an abundance of sights and sounds to direct your attention away from the beaches and toward the other “wonders” waiting to be explored and discovered. Explore lush tropical forests, browse through local market stalls, shop in enchanting caribbean boutiques. These are some of the great alternatives to spending all your time on the beach.
George Town, Grand Cayman
For the adventurous type out on a Caribbean honeymoon vacation, try snorkeling with the stingrays at Stingray City Sandbar. You will encounter stingrays. No need to panic. These are relatively tame animals. They may swim right up to you and eat food right from your hands. Many enjoy when you rub their bellies, and you would love the touch of their velvety soft skin. Despite their fear-inspiring name, they are generally extremely gentle creatures and they won’t hurt you. However, you must be sure to stay away from their tails.
Away from the sea fun during your Caribbean honeymoon vacation here in George Town, Grand Cayman can include taking a tour through the town itself, which is the capital of the Cayman Islands. Visit the Conch Shell House, made solely of trumpet shells or visit the Turtle Farm, a sea turtle nursery that breeds and raises green and hawksbill turtles. The north side of the island has Rum Point Club where you can experience a unique island-style day out in its scenic surroundings, or take an exhilarating flight-seeing tour over the island to get a bird’s-eye view.
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Jamaica boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and you’ll be sure to want to spend at least one evening there watching the sun set with your sweetie during your Caribbean honeymoon vacation, and Rose Hall Beach Club is a perfect place to do it. Glittering white sand and nearly translucent waters make the admission fee to this secluded beach seem well worth paying. Beach bars, open-air dance areas, volleyball courts, restaurants, showers and complete water sports programs are among the most obvious things to do during your Caribbean honeymoon vacation here.
Before you leave be sure to explore the bustling Gloucester Avenue with its wonderful shopping and various restaurants, or play a round of golf at Wyndham Rose Hall Golf & Beach Resort which features a waterfall on the 15th green. Try a favorite local drink, Red Stripe beer, or head out horseback riding along the beach shortly before saying goodbye to Montego Bay on your Caribbean honeymoon vacation.
Samana, Dominican Republic
Somewhat removed from the typical tourist trail, the luxuriant peninsula of Samana is a paradise for nature lovers to visit on a Caribbean honeymoon vacation. Not only is it home to one of the most important mangrove reserves and rainforests in the Caribbean, but its crystal-clear coast offers some of the most divine diving found along the northern coast of this island. Imagine being able to see up to 150 feet in some spots! You will get great views of the reefs and see lots of colorful tropical fish escorting you on your underwater excursion.
If your Caribbean honeymoon vacation to this lovely location happens to fall during a January, you might wish to try and catch the sight of thousands of humpback whales migrating south to Samana Bay during their mating season. It’s said you can find up to 300 whales at any given time, so come take a gander at these magnificent mammals while you have a chance, and watch them frolic, sing and court one another. It’s just one of many more delightful experiences you can have on your vacation.

How to Prevent Good Kids from Making Bad Choices About Drugs
One of the things that kids value most is the trust and respect of their parents. However, when kids think they won’t get caught, they don’t feel their bond of trust is ever in jeopardy and they do what they want. It’s easy for good kids to make bad choices.
Parenting decisions are only as sound as the facts on which they are based. Unfortunately, parents often make decisions based on fantasy rather than facts.
Let’s explore the topic of teen substance abuse as an example. Too many parents get lulled into a false sense of security because their kids play sports, make good grades, and have “nice” friends. That’s a fantasy.
Speaking factually, about half of all high school seniors have tried illegal drugs. (The numbers go much higher if you include the students who have used tobacco and alcohol.)
From the time children are very young, they’re taught to “just say no” to drugs. I’m convinced that the peer pressure usually gets worse when they do because teens don’t know what to say next.
An emerging trend offers parents direction and hope. Drug testing kits now exist that can be administered at home and provide instant results for a fraction of the cost of a lab, without sacrificing accuracy or privacy. Parents who follow through with such an approach give their teens a socially acceptable excuse. The words “My parents test me” stop pushy peers in their tracks. Additionally, teens’ poor behavior and choices can be made to change when teens know it’s a certainty rather than a remote possibility that their drug use will be discovered.
Parents often ask me when they should talk to their kids, what they should say, and what they can do to follow through. Ben Franklin said, “Wise is the man who fixes his roof before it rains.” I couldn’t agree more. I suggest that parents would be well served to sit down with their children and start talking about the dangers of drugs as early as when their children are in middle school.
While a conversation about the dangers of drug use is an important first step, it’s simply not enough to protect your child without a plan to follow through. To prevent teen drug use in his community in Idaho, Dr. Michael Reznicek, a medical doctor with emergency room experience, actually developed a software program that facilitates the initial parent–child conversation.
Dr. Reznicek believes trust should be earned rather than bestowed. His approach eliminates potential misunderstandings by creating a contract that spells out specific rewards and consequences tied to home drug test results. Additionally, the software he developed becomes the preferred target of potential animosity over requests for hair, urine, or saliva samples for drug testing purposes because it also selects random testing dates.
You’re not alone if you think YOUR teen would “just say no” to drugs. A recent study by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America found that only 18 percent of parents were willing to consider the possibility that THEIR child had tried illegal drugs (not including tobacco or alcohol). It’s no wonder so many teens think their parents won’t find out. They’re right—until it’s too late.
